- I was shocked to learn about the treatment done with a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee, who was allegedly murdered on duty.
Currently, junior doctors, residents and paramedic staff are protesting in multiple medical colleges in the State, demanding increased safety on the hospital premises and strict action against the accused.
It was alleged that the campus lacks proper washrooms for female staff, proper changing rooms and adequate resting areas for on-call doctors.
But this incident is not new for India. Sexual Assault is the fourth most common crime against women in India.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 31,677 rape cases were registered across the country, or an average of 86 cases daily
Of the total 31,677 cases, 28,147(nearly 89%) were committed by persons known to the victim.
