- Howdy Ya’all, Its been a minute. This darned ol’ air compressor just wasnt pumpin. That and just getting caught up in a bunch of dad things has lead to this extended time between talking to yall… BUT FEAR NOT! Today you get to witness the resurrection of the Air compressor. It is one of the major items that was holding up forward progress on the #TEEJ.
Also... you may notice some lags in the video. I got a new recording device that like an idiot I didn't do some test vids... but I got the kinks work out of it for the next videos.
Also… you may notice in the vidya that MR. Mayhem has some swag on in a few of the shots. YA’LL. I gots the merch now. Hit me up in the comments and Ill get you hooked up.

Those are INTAKE filters, not exhaust filters.
You dont need teflon tape on the compression fittings. The seal isnt the threads, Its the friction made by the angled metal to metal interface.
I totally understand this. I guess my old habits die hard.
was there a break in period for the pump to run before under load ? some say 30 min then hook plumbing up.
Yes, Run the pump with N0 Load for 30mins, than run it for a time period of 100hrs. And after that, change the oil.
you should have used normal compressor oil for the break in and put the Synthetic as the normal running oil.
Why didn't you use a linked belt, they absorb vibration great also.
Exhausts! What the hell, it's an air compressor, it consumes air, your air tool is the exhaust. Those are intake filters. And teflon tape on a flare fittings threads!, wtf. Maybe macramé would be more your speed?
I just watched a video with a guy upgrading his compressor with the same pump and he said it tells you to run the pump for a half hour without a load on it so I hope you do that
I believe it was 30 minutes
@@Mycouponman 30 minutes or half hour. Either one works. It's about the same amount of time roughly.
I did do that.
@@Mycouponman Na ..it was 1800 seconds! /facepalm
You know those are air filters, it exhausts into the tank.
Holds 1.5 qts...good idea to throw some cheap oil in there run the 30min break in then change it. Then let it get a few hrs on it and change it again. Many have found shavings in from manufacturering so get it good and flushed out
I need to change it again. I am going to use 30Wt non detergent as commented below.
Where did you get the fitting to hook the copper airline to pump? Do you happen to have a part number or anything
It has been a minute since it did that... I will take some pics and try to refresh my memory/look up my receipts.
Can post a comment on the parts you used to adapt the compressor outlet to the tank inlet line?
I will get back to you. I gotta look at my receipts and refresh my memory.
To find belt length just take a length of rope and wrap around pulleys and measure the length
I did that. That is how I have always done it. the deal here is usually there is enough adjustment either way to be within an inch or two... this particular instance there was probably 1/2"
Well GEEZ! I did not get any notifications about replies to this video... gotta up my game.
Please disconnect power chord when working on any appliance. Especially if you have kids that need you.
Hi Kenneth,
Thanks for the Heads up. I certainly need to take that into consideration more. I will keep that in the back of my head as I move forward.
For those of you Reading this... Im not smart. Do like Kenneth says and unplug the electrical apparatus when working on it.
@@mayhemsfablab I certainly didn’t mean that in an insulting way. Just for safety.
Party pooper....
Rule number one always read manual that comes with anything you just bought and you will never go wrong. Thats what I do all the time unless I am replacing the same item less problems that way plus sometimes you learn something new.
I read the instructions last to see if I did it right.
@@mrbmp09 This is me too.
Your motor pulley should have been a two groove pulley. One belt will stretch and wear out to fast. That 5 hp compressor takes a lot to spin, and it gets more so the more the pressure builds up in the tank.
If your motor you are using is not 5 hp then you won't get the max volume and pressure out of the pump.
It is a two groove pulley. I will report back here with how the single belt does. It seems to be working fine... but i do not use it often lately (family time).
Vaya vaya de verdad que es una maravilla ver o los hazlo to mismo vaya que me alegro el día cuántos días tardo en un trabajo de 1 hora max 2 horas? Y eso que disque es mecánico que tal si no lo fuera.
30 weight non detergent motor oil works perfect it's cheap and the engine will last
That is super good to know! I may have to take this advice... even the regular compressor oil at lowes it like $8 a bottle. I think napa brand 30wt ND is half that.
Use the good stuff why go cheap now?
Why wouldn't you just repair the I/R pump head ? Your a mechanic no ? Ain't much to rebuilding it
I explored this option first. Even called I/R for part numbers and they did not support that model anymore. This lead me to harbor freight.
Yep,
I still have that same model Charge Air Pro built 1984-1988 or so, they even had replaceable rod bearings and were rated as a continuous duty compressor. Ours still works but i wanted to put new rings and bearings in it ,have the original manual and parts list. Got told the same thing -No longer supported.
Works fine for everything but automotive painting. Even with filters it just passes to much oil.
I just decided to buy a new 2 stage 80 gallon unit made by MAT Holdings (what used to be Sanborn) that has 17.0 cfm @175 PSI.
The old IR's output was about 12 CFM @90 psi. I would have bought a Quincy QT 54, but Quincy dropped the Baldor US built motors and now they just say china. at least with the less expensive MAT I got a Century motor which is what is still running on the IR. Pay your money and take your chances.
You talk too much !!
Thank you for watching anyways! My wife says the same thing!
so it was a replacement... a fix is when we fix da PUMP!
Well. my air compressor did not work... and i fixed it with a replacement pump.
