And brake performance said it was 64%. So I got a car of the "future" ......This year car is older , and it is 85 % better brake performance and it fails on visual inspection??? So who is lying the nct computers or the guy with visual look????? Total joke.

Here in North Carolina, USA, probably about six years ago I had a 07 Saturn Vue that a wholesaler bought to resell at auction. This Vue had a code in the computer system for the secondary cooling system fan circuit. The Vue would not pass N.C. state inspection because of this. Well I looked around for the fan, the connectors and the wiring ect... low and behold this vehicle did not come equipped with a secondary cooling fan. The wholesaler could not sell it until it passed inspection, so after buying this vehicle he had to fork out a ton of money for a new computer. The Vue ran great, but because of that light(and come to find out the technician that formally replaced the pcm, yes it was done just prior to the wholesaler buying it, pushed the wrong key for some answers when programming the pcm) it would not pass. In so many cases the inspectors don't even look at the saftey part of the inspection anymore, just if the computer has codes. So yes the system is messed up. Great video!

Iv had to scrap cars because of a fault in the dash that doesnt go away, wasn't safety equipment, didn't affect drivablity or emissions, it was just a code for something that was a sensor or bulb the type of weird electrical thing that doesn't actually do anything. But because there's a code that won't go away fail and a perfectly fine running safe car with good brakes, good engine and good tyres is magically unsafe for the road... Its madness utterly stupid and there is no common sense involved.
I could prove that the code was harmless but that wouldn't cha ge a single thing...
The test doesn't make anyone safer unfortunately because the really. Dangerous shit doesn't get NCT'd and the majority of. People are fucking clueless their cars are unsafe so bitch when they get failed.
Failing for a missing Irish or. Eu flag.... I'm sorry is that a legal requirement on the plate? No it isn't, what do they do on cars that have plates older than that design.... Wow that's insane.

It is an utter money racket, but the individuals performing the tests are equally to blame. Two different testers can and often have failed and passed the same car for exact same item. One tester failed a car because the vehicle owner didnt empty her boot, next time for the recheck the tester passed while boot was still not emptied. This happened in KILKENNY CITY TEST CENTRE. The tester can easily use common sense judgement, something which this particular test centre does not have

nct test is a pain , they fail you on headlight aim , when theres no way you can have a beam setter calibrated the same as theirs is . So you end up going backwards and forwards failing and loosing time . the MOT in uk is just as stupid ,on the course they told us not to fail discs unless they have chunks missing . So they can get as thin as a rizzla and totally rusty lipped and everything , but if the performace is ok (at the time of the test) its a pass and advise .
common sense does not apply .

U.K. High level brake light doesn't have to work or be taped up if it doesn't work. It's an extra. Vehicle must have n/s and o/s working. You can assume high level might not be wired up to work and so advise it's not working. If left and right brake lights not working but high level is then basically the vehicle still has no brake lights on it at all.

I failed on a rusty brake line, just surface rust, and they didn't even test the brakes. Afterwards I checked the line.. hitting it for testing, then scrubbed it, checked for pitting, and sprayed it with anticorrosive. and it passed fine (for €28). They said ANY rust and the line has to be replaced.
They won't even touch the rust to see how bad it is.
That's what gets me, your brakes might be about to fail and they let you drive out the door, and also, if it's just surface rust they should at least test the brakes anyway, so that they don't have to put it on the machine again if it's repaired, instead of replaced. Money making racket!
If you're paying €60 they should be allowed to take some initiative, like adjusting headlights, tighten bolts, etc.

In Holland we have every year APK (Dutch NCT/MOT/Tüv), it's done by your local garage, special trained persons, and when it's passed and entered in their computer, you have to wait, as 3% gets a sample check by a government employee, and he will arrive in 30 minutes. And after 3 bad checks the mechanic loses the permit to do APK, so it's an almost reliable system, yeah almost..
5 yrs ago I bought '95 Discovery with new APK (NCT), and they transported it to my house, but after that it seemed the head gasket was gone, the brake distributor was leaking I had to fill brake fluid every week, a tyre was leak, and a lot of rust, and the battery was emptying in a few days, worst car I ever bought with "New APK/NCT". The trick is, some garages do like 50 APK/NCT's a day, and with questionable cars, they wait till 4:55 P.M. and then pass them all in the computer system, and off course civil servants don't work after 5 o'clock..

So you can pass with rusted through crossmembers and frame damage but my indicators being 10mm too close together is a fail... And the guy is able to measure if he 'believes the indicators. To be significantly noncompliant'.
