The Best "Obscure" Ronnie Milsap Song - Ever

- This is "The Future Is Not What It Used To Be," It is one of my all-time favorite Ronnie Milsap songs, even though it was not one of his big hits. From the DVD "Ronnie Milsap: Live."
My cousin and I stopped at Mickey D's in Oklahoma. We were headed to Branson to see Ronnie live later that night. A big ol tour bus pulled into that Mickey D's parking lot and it was none other then RM's band. Ronnie stayed on the bus, but his band were hungry. We told them we were headed to Branson to hear Ronnie in concert that night. True story. Ronnie's concert was one of the best I have ever attended. Ronnie can play, sing and entertain like no other.
I would've tried everything in my power to get on that bus and meet Ronnie in person. That will be one of my greatest regrets shall I never get to meet him before his time on earth expires.
Every song that Ronni Milsap ever sang is a masterpiece to me. When I listen to any of his albums, I don’t skip a single song.
I love this song and Ronnie is still one of the best singers in country music. His vocal range is amazing.
This is a beautiful song. Of course Milsap can make any song sound like perfection.
+Rikki Heinis Ain't that the truth
He could sing the alphabet, & I'd buy the 45 (or CD).
Rikki Heinis ,
I wish I could get one of my songs to him!
Agreed
Nobody will ever match Ronnie musically or vocally.. he's the best
Ronnie sings from deep down in his soul That is my kind of MAN. Live it. Feel it. Express it.
Agreed 100%
Thanks. I bought his Live DVD, and this song just floored me. This song was originally just an album cut off of "It Was Almost Like A Song," but once I heard him sing it, I had a hard time getting it out of my head.
I think it's one of the best country songs I've ever heard. The story of the song stays with you.
this song was on the 8-track that i wore completely out because i played it so much..all the songs were great and sung by one of the greatest singers to ever come around..I do love RONNIE MILSAP!!!
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music….. 😊
how could 14 people give this thumbs down what a great arrangement of this song Ronnie has such a great voice
They don't know country music..
Statistics indicate that 14 out of 1.9k people hit the Thumbs Down button when aiming for the Up button.
He is an artist of unparalleled quality and style, he makes you feel the song not just in words but music. He is a classic that I feel has not received the response from the music industry the way he should have, he is a master a pillar of love and heartache songs and no one can ever match him. God bless you Ronnie.....,

Rev. Glen He's may favorite country singer of all time. I was so happy when he finally got into the country music Hall of Fame a few years ago. He is so great!!!
you are correct!!! i love his music!!! hes a legend!!!!
@@JohnS_Unruh he’s just underrated in comparison like people only talk about Merle and George Jones but Ronnie is so much better in every way
"I'm a singer, not a vocal stylist. My breathing is correct; my enunciation is precise. Because of that, I can sing anybody's music. Yet there are stylists whose technical skills are so underdeveloped they can sing only their own songs their own way. They might be remembered for their hits longer than I am. I'll probably be working longer than they are. I can sing whatever the times and the trends demand." ----Ronnie Milsap
I’ll tell you who’s songs he couldn’t sing as well as the songwriter. Mickey fucking newbury.
A Heartfelt rendition by Ronnie Milsap. Great piano too.
Ronnie is best love all his music I could listen to him for ever love you Ronnie
You are so right; you’re unmatched by any in the music industry.
A great performance of a Mickey Newbury song, Newbury was the youngest songwriter to be inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in Nashville. Hard not to like a great Newbury tune done by Ronnie Milsap at his best.
There is not another voice like this man's brilliant god bless you Ronnie
i have loved this song since i first heard it. it's way way up on my milsap list
This performance is amazing the best i can see of him youtube.
Xxdxx
Greatest vocalist in country music
just simply the best song he ever sang. and he sang so many great songs. it was one of the best songs ever written.
I cry every time I hear this song. I own that "obscure" album. Thanks, Ronnie, for reminding me how blessed I am and how far the Lord has brought me and how much I love my fiancé.
What lyrics! ' Used to love you alot, but the future is not, not what it used to be ' ...Genius!!!
Greatest vocalist in the history of country music!!!!
My old man was a Ronnie Milsap fan. As a child of the eighties I became a fan of metal music But I can appreciate just how talented most of my fathers favorites were
chuckboy343 l grew up with metal/punk/hard rock as my musical pivot point also. Perhaps as life progresses we come to see that to love other forms of music in no way diminishes from the earlier flames. Just as when additional children come into life after the first, there is abundant room in the heart for as much as should be loved.
Written by Kenny Rogers' friend, the late Mickey Newbury. He also wrote" I just dropped in )to see what condition my condition was in).
there aren't enough words to say how much I love this song thanks Ronnie
An absolutely brilliant performance, it doesn't get much better than this.
Obscure? No, not by a long shot. Devoted fans of the Great Ronnie Milsap know his songs, and this one is definitely a classic. Ronnie was my first true country music artist in my list of great country singers (and I grew up with parents who were big country fans of the 60's and 70's), so that list could have had any number of artist of that period. But the first time I heard "It was Almost Like a Song", I became a completely devoted Milsap fan. What a great 50 year run I've had listening to, in my opinion, the greatest country music singer of all time.
Oh the tears fall. You are so good
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music….. 😊
one of the most talented entertainers in this world! Love Ronnie
Love this song. Love hearing him play the piano.
This was a great band. I remember this day well. Best male artist I will ever work for. He could sing anything.
Is anyone else thinking of Ray Charles while listening to this song?
It's the best song, by Ronnie Milsap, that, never, I'd heard!('til this morning, that is.)While it's got a very basic chord structure(and, has melodic overtones, of "Run, For The Roses")I, just, love this.
Thank heaven for the likes of Mickey Newbury
Absolutely fantastic
The song that touches me the way no other ever has is his Lost in the fifties tonight. That song makes you so peaceful and the sax music is outstanding. Keep singing Ronnie we love you.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music….. 😊
For anyone that has NOT seen this DVD, it is a must-see in deed. I never got into Ronnie Milsap other then to hear his top hits etc but after seeing this DVD I am a HUGE RM fan. It was live at Gran casino in Biloxi and the music, the sounds, and his stage presence was maybe the best live concert on DVD I have ever seen. His performing of some 50's Doo-Wop songs accopella is simply amazing. The concert is uplifting, nostalgic, and just darn GOOD music.
This guy is as good live as he is on record..I didn't know about the politics in nashville and the hall of fame thing...The cream always rises to the top eventually.....thanks for the music ronnie....and thanks for posting this.....England.
Larry(my Husband's Cousin) ran away from blind school with Ronnie! Rick was in Army for 33 years, we were faithful fans thru all our travels! We meet Mr.Milsap in Las Vegas at his concert, also his Son! Best concert we ever saw-& will never forget! Rick's in Heaven now-miss him so very much-he was Best Husband & Father in World!
GREAT !! Great song, wonderful lyrics about lost love. Fantastic piano with thundering bass style cords, tinkeling high notes. Whats not to like.
Ronnie Milsap : l need you to know that l am sitting here with tears streaming down my face
The words of this song, and the pain in your voice, are breaking my heart all over again. I doubt that truer words were ever written, and l think l have heard just about every heart-break song there is.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music….. 😊
I have always been a Mickey Newbury FAN, and Ronnie M singing MNs songs, it doesn't get any better. Even though Mickey N died his music will always live on. Rock on Ronnie.......
Ronnie gets such great tone from a piano, He gets almost thunderous lows.
@BloozeDaddy76 I completely agree with you. Ronnie Milsap also has won SIX Grammy Awards, and George Strait, although I love his music, too, has not won his first Grammy yet. How can other performers who have not accomplished as much as Ronnie Milsap has be inducted into a hall of fame before such a talent as this man?? I had the pleasure of seeing Ronnie in concert in Austin in 1979 and 1983. He is my favorite country singer, and he will receive this recognition, I'm sure!
Love this song! As Ronnie says, "obscure" and unappreciated , but a great song by a great artist! Thanks for posting it for us.
I saw Ronnie circa 1982 and I've been a fan ever since.
Yeah,me to...One of the greatest voices in any genre of music.....so wonderful and clear.no effort..gives me goddamn shivers at times....go Ronnie... Jeff
I think its a great country song about the twist and turns of life. Ronnie needs to
re-record .even though it may appeal more to older fans who have lived some of it.
best concert I've ever seen about four years ago
Why was this song not a major hit!
best concert I've ever seen about four years ago
This man is so talented! Loved him since the early 70s.
I don't know who you are but I love you, thank you for your kind words for Ronnie Milsap... The greatest voice ever!
Ronnie doing a Mickey Newberry tune. Great songwriter plus a great singer = perfection
he used to get in trouble in school for singing rock and roll when he was supposed to be practicing his Gospel songs.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG..AND RONNIE SINGS IT PERFECTLY. GREAT SINGER..
.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music….. 😊
Good song! I have to say though the "obscure" title for me goes to "I can almost see Houston from here" from his 1976 live at the Grand Ole Opry album with Ralph Emery as master of ceremonies. How the heck that song was not released in it's live form is beyond me. Now this album is only available on vinyl even on reissue. That's another mystery to me. If it was in CD I'd buy it in a heartbeat and wear that out too! Written by Ray Willis I believe. Other artists had a crack at it but Ronnie Milsap for me is the definitive version. Thanks!
Omg ... I can see Houston from here ... Thought I was the only one who remembered that stuff ... Don't no who you are but I love you
What a musician.....
So beautiful it brings tears. I have been privileged to be in the front row at several of his concerts...and be a fan since the early 70s. Ronnie is brilliant...no one sings and plays like he does. Thanks for the music Ronnie. It is timeless and so beautiful...
I generally like Ronnie Milsap but this is not a patch on Mickey Newbury's original.
You want to hear a tiny sample of true vocal genius? Skip to 4:00 and notice how effortless that line was. I mean dang Ronnie!! Amazing talent, a true living legend.
Need to hear Mickey newbury sing this song best ever
He has always been a favorite - met him once after a concert that our radio station promoted. He was a true gentleman. Thanks for posting this song...it's so beautiful
I'm glad RONNIE MILSAP GIVES CREDIT to Mr. MICKEY NEWBURY, the GREATEST SONGWRITER EVER. (PERIOD)
I agree!!.Mickey was and still is a genius songwriter,and a beautiful singer.
This is just unbelievable, a great version of probably one of the best songs ever written. Check out Mickey's version too, it's unreal. The lyrics are amazing on so many levels and can be interpreted on many levels. Thanks for posting!
Ronnie is the best.

Ronnie and his music were the inspiration for the term "One of a kind." My favorite obscure Milsap song is "Too big for words." Check it out.

Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music….. 😊
This is a great song, Mickey Newbury was a legend . I was proud to be on-air live on KGAS last year in Carthage, Texas when Mickey's family accepted his nomination into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.
I LOVE ANYTHING THAT RONNIE SINGS
Mickey Newbury and my dad grew up together, 1st cousins, both blessed with the gift of an amazing voice and the ability to paint a picture with words!
What a legend!
Ronnie is one of the few that sounds Great in concert. I got to see him when he sang in Vegas. I had the joy of seeing him from the second row. I always listened to him growing up in the 80's. Seeing him was a dream of mine that had come true.
Nashville needs to explain how the hell George Strait and Vince Gill are elected to the country music hall of fame BEFORE Ronnie Milsap! Ronnie already had 40 number one hits long before Strait did, and Milsap was topping the charts and winning awards in the 70's when Strait and Gill were in high school!!
What is possibly keeping this LIVING LEGEND out of the hall of fame! Nashville is so full of bullshit that they can't even give a man of Milsap's calibre the recognition he deserves...
this song is for Michelle I love her
@BloozeDaddy76 ,RIGHT ON BROTHER!,
As much as I love Mickey, I DO like how Ronnie used his poetic license on this song and made it his own. #Love RM!
That would be "She Keeps The Home Fires Burning."
I love this song its for michelle
@BloozeDaddy76 Some of those great 70s & early 80s country stars have indeed ben grievously snubed. Don Williams & Eddie Rabbit are two other examples besides Ronnie.
Ronnie is and always will be my favorite singer .. so clean and powerful... and so
is his piano playing, plus his message... god bless you Ronnie .Dj Dan Sarasota fl.

Does anyone have chords for this song, I can't find them anywhere. I've picked some of it out by ear but not enough to sound like anything.
Mr. Milsap is a very talented brave and has faced many obstacles life has throwers him and he has overcome and is truly a great entertainfer
SAW HIM AT THE FRONT ROW IN CLEVELAND , OHIO .....MID EIGHTIES ............OUTSTANDING !!!!!!
The best Country song ever, imo
@BloozeDaddy76
It's because Mickey Newbury wrote it!! That's the guy who WAS elected in the Country Music Hall of fame!
Happy Birthday, Ronnie January 16th. Wow 78, really?
😇GVB ❤....just might be my favorite song.❤😊
