- Craft Knife: Ka-Bar USMC Combat Knife
After having read its history and studied its design, I began to try to recreate it with the most typical materials that I have in the backyard of my house.
This knife was widely used by the United States Marine Corps during WWII (adopted in 1942) among other subsequent conflicts. Until today it continues its production in a variety of models.
This replica is more than anything a contribution commemorating this mythical knife.

The way you drilled that pin hole through the hand guard free hand. That is highly skilled hands and a very practised eye.
I have accumulated three Ka-Bars over the course of my life, and the one made in this video looks to be as good as any others. Well done!

There's no such thing as a "former Marine," sir! Haha...jokes aside, my father-in-law is a Vietnam veteran...1st/9th.
@@rothsshvili5125 it's not technically a bayonet, I was issued one for a while until the Marine corps transitioned to the OKC-3S. The 3S is an amazing piece.

A darn good knife. I had one issued to me by Uncle Sam in 1965 and still have it today.

When I joined the Army I carried a Ka-Bar on me in the chopper as an Aeroscout. I've been out for 30+ years and I still have that same knife.

I know a good friend who made his son a fighting knife when he enlisted in the marines. Now,this knife is hand forged by him and was gorgeous! When other guys seen the quality of it,he started to get orders from other soldiers, wanting a knife too.

I love leather stacked handles. Probably because my dad's hunting knife had a leather stacked handle even though it was not a Kabar. You did a good job, nice craftsmanship.

Beautiful knife made with basic tools equals very talented knife maker. Well done.
All that is missing is the BLOOD GROOVE however it is not on the blue print so i do not blame the maker. Well made replica . There are various original designs that are liesenced by the U.S. Marine Corps. Semper FI !!!
It's called a fuller and the purpose of the fuller is to reduce the weight of the blade without affecting its strength and stability. It is a myth that the fuller allows the knife to be removed easier from its target.
Yeah, I was hoping he'd show me a groove grind on it. Camillus designed what was later mostly produced by Kbar for US military in WWII. I have an original marked 'Camillus'.

La lima la use (me obligaron a usarla) por dos periodos cuando curse la Escuela Industrial.
Despues de eso; NUNCA MAS, USE UNA LIMA POR MAS DE 5 MINUTOS.

Hola Leandro, impresionante tu trabajo. Yo tengo un Ka-Bar (kit) este viene con los cueros ya redondeados la cosa es como comprimirlos en el armado (no es facil) Los cueritos se pueden comprar aparte). Tengo varias bayonetas que tengo que restaurarlas, son de diferentes paises. Solo a titulo de sugerencia, existe un liquido y/o gelatina para pavonear el acero, que se usa para las armas de fuego. El pasador del pomo, impresionante como coincidio con el otro lado!!. Te comento que oi tu voz y me suena argentina, yo soy de Montevideo, Uruguay. LLevo 55 abriles viviendo en USA...te envio un fuerte apreton de manos desde Richlands, Carolina del Norte. Gracias por tu video tan profesional y por no poner musica...Chau pibe!!.

Nice job! The most impressive part for me was drilling the pin hole through the pommel metal. Perfectly centered and perfectly straight in such a thin piece and done freehand. Great job overall, too.
Beautiful build. I was hoping to see how you'd ground the groove as the original 'Kbars' have. The original design and manufacture was by 'Camillus' but Kbar got the larger production contract for that design so most had 'Kbar' mark.
You should call yours a Camillus since it is their design you followed. Again, great work!

Excelento laburo como siempre Leandro! Y felcitaciones por la fragua! Ya me imagino los videos de forja de cuchillos que se vienen. Yo la tengo abandonada a mi fragua, tanto que me llevó armarla...pero tus videos me dan pilas para volver a prenderla! Consulta, me llamó la atención la pintura negra del final de la cuchilla y la guarda, no quedaría mejor quizás oxidándolas con la fragua para que quede más natural? Es solo una observación. Felicitaciones de nuevo y gran laburo en ese mango, nunca vi una cosa así. Abrazo!

La pintura no es lo mejor para un cuchillo pero quise representar lo mejor que podía al Ka-Bar.
En algún momento voy a conseguir cloruro férrico para tratar el acero para obscurecerlos correctamente 👍

Yo utilizo el mismo metodo para hacer mis cuchillos, lleva trabajo y esfuerzo pero quedan perfectos.

I've snapped K-bars in 2 right at the guard. I've snapped the blades. I started carrying Cold Steel. I've Never been able to snap a CS fixed blade.

I've owned several Ka-bar knives. I liked yours the best. I used to be able to throw 1 50ft and nail my target. My problem was the handles alway got loss. The other problem was they wouldn't hold a edge long. After sharpen. I could shave with it. Metal wasn't tempered enough. But what to expect from Uncle Sam. Loved them though. Very nice job u did.

I think they used to make them as cheap as possible due to the wars, that's why the spike was very fragile in some cases.

Wartime production of the Ka-Bar totaled over1 million. Leandro would have had to start around the same time as the they started the SPHINX to fill that order. LOL. But the result was a beautiful knife even more impressive that it was made with stones and bear skins. Well done.
