What do you use underneath (instead of cream cheese icing 😆)? Does buttercream work best?

YES! Buttercream all the way! :D

So is the only advantage of scratch made fondant a better flavor? Can you color plain fondant or do you have to buy it in exactly the color you plan to use?

In my opinion, fondant is nasty and is rarely actually eaten. I never make fondant anymore, because it just isn't worth it for me!...but yes, homemade tastes a bit better than boughten kind. You can color fondant yourself if you'd like a nice upper body workout for the day!...OR you can paint it after you put it on the cake. I'll have a video up next week that you can check out to learn how to paint white fondant! :D
