    I've been thinking about this, Taker has had some amazing mania matches and the streak is great, but replacing some of those duds would make it all the better. Taker vs Savage at Mania 9 works as well, Taker vs Angle Mania 22 definitely should have happened, and if Sting had to lose at Mania 31 then it should have been against the deadman.

    • @gabepollock1641

      If Sting’s timeline had worked out differently, he would’ve lost to Taker at 27 instead of HHH’s second loss. Those vignettes in 2011 were meant for him if he jumped from TNA, rather than being for The Undertaker.

    • @SaintPhoenixx
      @SaintPhoenixx 6 месяцев назад +4

      The streak would have been way more prestigious if they booked it as a streak to begin with.
      I know they accidentally happened upon it but if they could do it again, they really should book Austin/Jericho/Rock/Guerrero/Rey/Angle/Bret/Hogan/Savage in there.
      The streak started becoming a thing of legend when he started facing Edge/Orton/Batista/HHH/HBK, other top wrestlers.

    It’s been almost 10 years and I am still fumed for how WWE mistreated Sting. While it looked like his WWE run was very promising upon his phenomenal debut but unfortunately, much like Bret Hart’s entire WCW run, it was completely sabotaged from the get-go. It’s very clear that Vince McMahon brought in Sting to make his run all about WCW vs. WWE which made no sense considering the fact that at that point WCW had been dead for 14 years. Undertaker vs Sting with something that wrestling fans had been anticipating for so long but nope Vince decided against that because he likes to suck the fun out of everything. I’m so glad he’s gone now.

    I believe Sting vs Taker was also penciled for Mania 27, the thunderstorm cabin in the woods vignettes was originally meant to signal the arrival of Sting, but WWE "counted their chickens before they hatched" and were unable to get Sting who renewed with TNA who in turn parodied the vignettes to signal Stings Return. WWE diverted course and turned their vignettes into a return of the Undertaker who would be interrupted during his grand return by the return of Triple H who himself had been on a sabbatical

    • @gabepollock1641

      You’re correct: those were for Sting and pivoted to Taker when they failed to sign Sting. Had they done their diligence it would’ve been Taker at the tail of a prime streak of matches + Sting coming off his last major full-time run. Match would’ve been glorious.

    I feel like Elias would have been such a pointless match that it would have been a mark against his streak than for it. The streak became not just the number but who he was fighting as well, so to see him fighting basically the best of the best at that point then fight Elias just for a squash extra number would have felt like one of those matches we don't actually acknowledge.

    • @gabepollock1641
      @gabepollock1641 6 месяцев назад +1

      True, but this was a year removed from them throwing away Cena vs. Taker by having John getting squashed under the assertion that he wasn’t planning to have to compete. And with the right build Elias could’ve been a competent opponent for The Undertaker. The aging outlaw is a trademark of country/western music, so Elias wouldn’t have been hurting for a good story. Let him run through some aging veterans and then set his eyes on slaying the most revered of the “Western gunslingers”. Even if Taker dispatched him handily it would’ve been a unique story.

    • @CB-lw7ty
      @CB-lw7ty 6 месяцев назад

      @@gabepollock1641 Sure with the point about squashing Cena and it wasn't the match we wanted...but it's still Taker beating Cena at WM, a big name value regardless of the match. With Elias they could have built him and did in stages get him over but it was never that Taker level of opponent especially when it became essentially a HoF spot with Shawn, HHH, Punk, Brock, Shane, Reigns Cena, Styles, you can build Elias up but that's crazy level company he'd never reach. Daniel Bryan would potentially be a better name at that point than Elias.

    I'm surprised that Taker VS Mankind never happened at WM. Every match they had was gold and it would have been perfect for any Wrestlemania from 13 through to 16. Personally, I think Taker did a great job at getting a good match out of Sid which was no easy task, but when you consider that this was at the height of his feud with Mankind, maybe there could have been a way for them to face off at WM13 instead. Vince was never going to put the belt on Mick at that point, but maybe the belt could have been vacated due to Sid being injured or perhaps Sid could have lost it to Taker at the previous PPV. Or maybe have Taker win the belt from HBK at the Royal Rumble then have Mankind replace Taker in the weird ending of the Royal Rumble match and lead to having him face Taker at WM13. They would face off for the title soon after at Revenge Of The Taker so they could simply move that story line forward a bit. Mankind was Taker's greatest rival and the person with whom he had his best matches so it's a shame that they never got to face off at Wrestlemania.

      To be fair, Hell in a Cell created so many complications of raised bars, 'Taker and Mick would've had to have damn near killed each other (again)
      However, that run of 'Manias from '98 to '02 were literally perfect for a final Mankind vs. Undertaker match, or for an utterly batshit crazy Cactus Jack vs. Undertaker match. Mick wouldn't have even needed to move that much, just hit 'Taker with his normal move-set accentuated by foreign objects in the spots. '01 'Taker that sold a lot would've really shined for Mick's craziest ideas for submission holds using foreign objects

    Alternate WM30 opponent for The Undertaker: Bray Wyatt.
    Wyatt was still undefeated. Why not make him the new final boss of WWE by being the one to out psych The Undertaker and break the streak?
    Be a better result than Cena and Lesnar getting wins they didn't need.

    Triple H and Shane McMahon -1. If You think Two matches are enough vs Undertaker. Triple H not only wrestled him at Mania three times, but LOST all three! And, just about anybody else other than Shane would have been better since Shane left the WWE immediately after.

    Agree on: Dusty at VII, Jeff Hardy at XIX, Razor at IX, Vader at XIII, Mankind at XV.
    Disagree on: Elias at 35 (Taker vs KO works more for me), Kama at XI (rather have Taker vs DiBiase as the latter's official final match), Hogan at VIII (Taker being the first to defeat Piper by pinfall clean looks and sounds a lot better, Bret and Jake would have been my IC Title match) and Sting at 31 (Taker vs Ambrose sounds better)
    Dream scenarios: Taker vs Bray at XXX (Taker never faces Lesnar and The Streak is still alive), Taker vs Sting at 32 (instead of Shane), Taker vs Cena for the WWE Title at 33, Taker vs Braun or Elias at 34 (probably Elias, don't want to kill Braun's momentum at the time any further by losing), Taker vs Aleister Black at 37 (2 year Spiritual level Master vs Apprentice storyline comes to a culmination) and Taker vs Tribal Chief Roman at 38 for the Title (Roman defeats Taker, breaks The Streak and Taker retires in Texas).

      FWIW Ted couldn’t wrestle by 95. When he first left the WWF in the fall of 93 he was working in Japan (I believe AJPW but I may be wrong), and he injured his back. The corporation was an on screen way to avoid him having to wrestle because his body couldn’t handle it at that point.

    • @SuperAttitudeera
      @SuperAttitudeera 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@gabepollock1641 Yeah, I didn't express myself well in that one, should have put it as a dream type of scenario, but you can't disregard the fact that a lot of cool storyline options could have been executed with Taker wrestling and retiring the guy who introduced him to WWE fans in kayfabe, his menthor so to speak.

    The streak should have had better opponents. Until Edge, they were pretty much all midcarders. It would have been way more prestigious if he beat main eventers every year. A-Train, Big Boss Man, Giant Gonzalez?
    Austin, Cena, Rock, Jericho, Guerrero, Daniel Bryan and Rey should have faced him instead of those other bozos forgotten to history.

    Not getting Sting up against Taker HURTS. We could've had someone who wasn't a complete douche end the streak, and it could've legitimized his wins over Hogan. As a bonus, Sting could've been his more colorful classic self for that match only. But I guess one never just _plays_ the Big Bad of one's wrestling outfit if they want to make that ""role"" work, so f••• us.
