Just wanted to add that all the art is made by his wife, Franchesca Norstein. She deserves to be recognized for her amazing work

Her name is Francesca Yarbusova. She is genius! And she is very shy at the same time. She called herself the brush of Yuri Norstein

    TRANSLATION:
The rains of the long journey have torn my hat, and my coat has crumbled in the daily storms.
Accustomed as I am to extreme poverty, I feel sorry for myself. Suddenly, remembering that master of mad verse who traveled long ago in the province I wrote…
In the withering gusts of a wanderer-
    how much like Chikusai
    I have become!

This uses hand painted pieces of paper that are cut out and animated physically, combining stop-motion and graphic animation. These are placed in stacks on movable glass plates and photographed. Oil-on-glass was his preferred method earlier in life.

I appreciate the skill and technique but to me this kind of animation just means feeling anxiety and claustrophobia, its like a nightmare, dreary, weird slow movement... I can't watch it..
