Hi, Roger! I like your updates very much. I am glad that Hannah is helping you to organize the garden for the summer. The idea for the bonsai stands sounds very good. You will be quite busy. I agree that Hannah should get an honorary membership, and I hope she gets it. Those Prostechea blooms are very pretty! I hope Mojo does well, and eats his meals. When my older cats lose weight, I give them a can or two of Royal Canin Recovery and they get better. Happy growing!🌸
Hello Roger, I am a new Subscriber, I am enjoying your channel very much! I am from Melbourne, Australia and although we are in different countries there are similarities weather wise. I am grateful because you explain things so that even a hobbyist can follow and gather knowledge, you say it how it is, so much that you take away the stress of having a go at growing orchids.....and I love the Sunday chats, and the Bonsai channel also.... Thankyou Lisa😃
Hiya, sounds like a productive weekend. Don't forget that all plants need a period of hardening off before leaving them outside day and night. The Cymbidiums will object with marks on leaves if it's not done and May can still be risky. 😊
Exciting things that are happening! I think it's awesome that you get to use your neighbor's plywood. Sure saves a lot of money. Hope he entrance fee issue for Hannah can be solved. Also really like her idea of setting the cymbidium outside and see what happens. Kind of what I did with some of my mom's cacti, that she gave me. They already weren't at the best of health and I wasn't too fond of them (opuntia microdasys)... I get a rash from their glochids - told my mom I was testing them for their hardiness, knowing full well that they wouldn't make it. She wasn't mad about it. It will be interest to see what happens with the cymbidium.
In the states we call them hatchbacks. my car is like a station wagon, three rows of seating, with a hatchback. seats go down and I can haul quite a bit. Yes, Hannah, should definately get a discounted ticket. I hope you enjoy the day
My Cyms have been outside for a week now and I only get them inside on very cold nights (below 10) which I haven't had to do yet, some cold night ahead this week but during the day it's warm enough. Finally room for moving stuff around inside 😁
Most nights here are still dropping below 10C - but it's getting warmer as the week progresses. They are however staying in until all the staging is sorted out.
quite disappointing how some people in WOS look at your society's presence at the only International orchid show left in the UK. it's about supporting the hobby and ensuring its future. if a Scottish orchid society can make an effort and put on a display so should all the other big societies that are much closer to Birmingham. well that's how I see it anyway. I treat it as a little holiday. I booked my hotel and it wasn't that expensive. every society was given 10 exhibitor passes. they are free for a whole length of the show including parking. .. you as a member can purchase discounted tickets for you and your family members too from what I know. hope to see you guys there
Curious Roger at the most how many orchids did you have? How many now? I know I have a hundred and that is what I can manage in my climate. I also lost probably that same amount since I started. Thank you for the chat..I do enjoy it very much.
So which orchids will you repot when blooming and which orchids won’t you repot when reblooming.? Sorry to hear about Mojo’s decline. To be honest, some days I feel as if Mojo and I are at same stage of life. Although, I can never jump into a chair.
Moejoe probably has arthritis my roxie needed to put on a natural powder medicanethat has no taste I just put it in her food if your interested i can let you know what it is! Roxie uses it because her arthritis and actually eates her food!
Lol yes what a silly problem that people want. It's like having your cake and eating it too. They should be more helpful for someone who has volunteered. As for the Horary for Hannah, well that's a no cost brainer to me.
I agree that the orchid society should make Hannah a honary member and at least pay for your car parking seeing you are picking up other peoples plants.
I was thinking you were referencing your own car which I would call a sedan. But another comment has it as a hatchback, which I think is correct if the trunk (boot?) has a pass through to the back (rear) seat. 'Nother topic. You are providing a service to the orchid society, and their benefit is possibly getting more members, and their name out into the public. Your milage should be paid for, your entrance fee and that of your assistant. If your assistant had been a fellow society member, there wouldn't be a question, so there shouldn't be on now either even it is Hannah. Don't want to support Hannah? Great, who else is volunteering from the Society? Oh, no one? Then Hannah is your other society member! Your gas should also be covered and re-imbursed round trip (not to pick up Hannah), but from your door to door. Any parking fees should be covered. The society needs to pay to play. Your time and effort is valuable too. And so are the society members plants, so they have to get home somehow. How generous you want to be to your society is up to you, but they should also work with you and not take any more advantage then you are willing to give. imo.
We will sort something out - it seems all the society members who attend these shows for their displays all pay out of their own pockets so that's not unusual. If you imagine, for those travelling a long way, there's the travel itself, 5 nights in a hotel plus food - it all adds up to quite a lot.
Nice chat…thanks.
You're welcome.

Thanks - I think the final 'look' for the garden will work well.
Wow!!! I love that flower!
Thanks.

Nothing is going outside until all the staging is sorted.
the usitana, is one of my favorite orchids. sequential yes but not a long time in forming.

Surviving the Winter will be unusual but worth a try.
Thanks for the chat Roger.

I will sort the ticket out - it's not until mid-June.
Great chat
Thanks.
I often wondered why you didn’t put those staging platforms on casters.

@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai I took them inside late last night 😁
I think we call it a coupe (car) or a SUV (sport utility vehicle) when the trunk (boot) and back seat don’t have a wall. My Mustang is called a coupe.

If we finally decide to go, I will be there on the Sunday (only) with Hannah - she is keen to help out.
For your castors the ply wood might not be thick enough for a screw. You might have to put a nut and bolt
Short fat screws?
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai oh yeah. Not too familiar with sizes
The BOC scheme covers non members if a member actually buys their ticket so ……… no probs !
Thanks for that.

180 max. Now about 130 - maybe a few less. I hate to think how many I've lost over the years.

Phalaenopsis - yes plus some others. It depends how good the root system is.

Apparently, the discounted tickets can be bought by members for 'friends and family' so it should be ok.
