Steel-string acoustic guitar sides could break or crack with over bending

  • Building a steel-string acoustic guitar requires caution when bending the guitar sides. This is not an acoustic guitar building kit... it is right from flat wood to bent steel-string guitar sides. So much can go wrong whether the guitar sides are bent by hand or in a guitar bending press. Don't rush the process.
    Too much heat, not enough heat, the guitar sides are too thick, too thin, or too much pressure can ruin a guitar so quickly not to mention the loss of money.

    Won't it be easier to soak the wood pieces in some sort of oil based liquid (or oil water combo solution), to make the wood soft and malleable then shape and hold it till it's dry? The steam does it faster, but it's very risky, as, if you go too fast (with curving its sides) before the moisture has penetrated the wood, you can snap the wood...observations from a non guitar maker :)

    • @MontyMcKinnon
      @MontyMcKinnon  5 лет назад +1

      By spraying Super Soft 2 the wood bends like butter at around 250 degrees or a little less. The water I spray is to keep it from burning. The wood is very thin.

    I cringed when I heard that crackling sound. Fingers crossed it WAS just the springs. :) Question, when you spritzed the wood before wrapping in foil, did you spritz both sides or just the top? Thanks for another great video. I'll probably never make a guitar, but your wood working tips can be used in so many applications!

      I hit both sides with the water bottle. Thank you for being here.

    That was worth the wait. I was trying to figure out how the bending was done without searching online.
    The important links filled up nice. Lady Divina thanks you for the Keto book suggestion.
    Enjoy the tea and thanks Monty.

    Question, does the wood ever snap when you are bending it like that?

    • @MontyMcKinnon
      @MontyMcKinnon  5 лет назад

      Once I had it break at the waist but didn't know it until I removed it in pieces. lol
