This is my first year with laying Chantecler and they are laying even during a January below zero cold front. The rooster was sitting in the snow comfortable at 7 deg f.

My neighbour just lost Robert, their Chantecler rooster. But I hatched six eggs , all hens, from a mixed group. Two of the hens at five months this November are already on the way to be 8 or 9 lbs. easy. And their personalities are just like dad: so easy so friendly so curious. I'm considering going to all Partridge Chantecler, especially since I'm in Canada.

The chanteclerc is really an amazing breed! It had been named a pratrimonial breed in Québec where it originated from. It's part of the three patrimonial breed with the canadian cow and horse, amazing animal in there own right!

These seem like the perfect chickens for cold Canadian winters. And it does get COLD! Some days it goes down to minus 40. With the wind (windchill) it can get much colder. 8 months of the year you need a jacket at the very least. But the good thing about the cold, ice and snow is that we don't have killer bugs and snakes. We got flies, wood ticks, bees, some snakes, hornets, etc., but none are poisonous or lethal. Always look to the bright side, eh?

Love your videos! Living in a cold climate myself, I have been researching for a couple years for that perfect breed to no avail. Well I think I just found it, all my thanks to you! I have tried other breeds over the years but have not been entirely satisfied with any of them. I think I will give this one a try since it checks ALL the boxes on my chicken breed checklist. It just so happens that there is a breeder within driving distance to me. I am very excited about this breed and would never have found it if it wasn't for you. Thank you so much!

I'd be happy if you spoke of our other two heritage breeds «la vache canadienne» the canadian cattle, that is on the verge of extinction, and «le cheval Canadien» the Canadian horse that, il seems that he will survive.
It is quite accepted now that the Canadian horse is the founding base of the Morgan horse.
    Very interesting channel.

@@LivestockBreeds Great, Thanks for your work ... very interesting, with lots of discovery of breed that I din't know it existed. I was a bit chauvinist about our Québec breeds but as a Canadian I should have mention The «Nowfoundland pony» and the «Lacombe pig» But, thanks again, each thing at his time.

It makes sense that Canada would value cold-hardiness.

I have the chanteclar partridge. Approximately how long until they begin laying? My rooster just started crowing (intermittently) in the last two weeks.

I don't actually own these animals. Do a DuckDuckGo.com search to find a breeder in your region.
