We've had our Soul EV for nearly 6 months. We live in a rural area and regularly get 4.7 miles/KwH - i.e. a full-battery range of 300 miles - sometimes we get more. Its a great car to drive and we love the looks. Its also very practical - with the back seats down there is bags of space. The false floor is great since it gives us a flat loading platform as well as under-floor space for a spare wheel (we ordered that as an extra) and all the charging cables. The re-generative breaking is wonderful, we hardly need to use the brake pedal.
When I saw the Kia Soul EV when it was announced, I thought it ugly but... it’s grown on me and having seen one in the metal, I really like it now. Just wish I could afford one.
Spot-on with the Yeti comment.I bought one 9 months ago after 11 years with a Mini Cooper Clubman. It outperforms the cooper every way.The Soul has always had solid look to the rear.It has real style.
Mine has arrived, Jumped out of a golf 7.5 and I love the soul. So quick with 201hp and CV the range is fantastic. I can pretty much get anywhere in the country on one chance fantastic. Tesla stock in the portfolio but the soul ev willl do nicely.
@@rickysandhu3918 hi Ricky, the level 2 from 0 to 100% is about 9 hours, but understand it not like a petrol car where you fill up at 1/4 tank or so…. You manage your energy level around the 80% mark, usually going from 60 to 85%. We drive about 1000km a month and can charge for 3 to 4 hours a week to cover that distance… we do mostly city driving and it has fantastic regeneration with braking. As update we just exceeded 10,000km, and love it !
I live in Ontario Canada. I got the Kia Soul 2020 extended range on August 1st 2019. It is by far the best car I have ever owned. I do agree with you, I hated the wheels from the start. So I ordered mine with Stinger rims and lug nuts. I also added a bug deflector and window vents. My Soul is pearl white with black accent it really stands out from the crowd. I'm just hitting 30,000 km without one ounce of problems. As I tell anybody that asked me about my Soul, take one for a drive, there's a reason why it won Urban Car of the Year.
Hi, I love the Kia Soul, opps e Soul. I had a Kia Soul Tempest 1.6crdi a few years ago and loved it. I’m seriously considering one of these when my lease ends in six months time. Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K. stay safe and well everyone.
Got one a year old and it's excellent. I come from 2L diesel cars background and love driving this EV. Range for me is 250 miles, great for most of what I do.
Once you live with it, it is quite easy to plan your trips. I have a short range EV and I know certain trips will require me to 'top up' just the once so i can get home. Normally a 15-25 minute charge does it.. The main saving is cost, 200 miles for less than £5 is common for me. P.S. I'm very much the wrong side of 50 years old too
The reality is that so long as you have home charging you very very rarely even have to think about public chargers unless on a long trip... and that's where Tesla still scores of course.
@@fleyua7176 The UK has many chargers that are not Superchargers but we have a lot of issues with quite a few not working as they should, and with the having to sign up with lots of different charging companies so it's not as easy to do.
Great review Pete. Love my Kia Soul EV got it last year. Charge at home all the time, range is very good. I have only used public charger once. Getting 380 to 400 Km.
I am so close to ordering one. I have driven it and really enjoyed the drive, kit and build quality. Yeah the looks are marmite and i would have an EV6 in a heartbeat, but i cant. Kia have really surprised me with this car, and the others i looked at too.
Of course I gave you a like! I have the identical car & love it more each day. Well built, great driving position & a range so big l don't even think about it anymore.
This is a fab review. We love ours. Charging down south is a pain, but we live in Scotland where the government have put chargers everywhere. You only have to sign up to Chargeplace Scotland. At the moment the electricity provided is free.
Really enjoyed this review. I have just bought a Kia Rio GT Line with 1.0 litre engine and turbo. I really love it. I had 3 VW Polo’s before and I thought they would take some beating but the Rio is better in lots of ways. I have been thinking about electric but have not taken the plunge yet. Maybe next time. I am retired now do don’t do a lot of miles in general but I do like a longish ride out if weather is nice. Maybe 100 miles or so usually.
Kia hasn't released the eSoul here in the US as of yet. I bought the gas version in June and it's loads of fun to drive. I'm with you, it's so ugly it's beautiful.
I am so jealous because I would like to buy Soul - amazing, funky car ❤, but there is only ev-version here in the UK (and the rest of Europe). I'm planning to buy an electric maybe in 10 years from now, but not before. So, not have many options left then buy used one. And to buy an older diesel model would be a terrible mistake, so will probably buy Petrol Soul 1.6 GDI CONNECT PLUS or similar if I find one.
I'm feeling less depressed about the prospect of driving an electric car in the future thanks to your enthusiasm, thanks again for another excellent review. 🙂👍. Andrew KB.
I own a Kia Soul Crdi and I love it. When I’m ready to change it bearing in mind it’s only just done 11,000 barely run. I am definitely having a soul EV thanks Pete. 😍

3:10 I agree... I am going to replace my Yeti to e-Soul within next two hours. I can already tell I'm going to miss 4wd the most, it is still rather wintery conditions here.
How did you get 555km? Man you are a eco monster! Did you use the super Eco mode? I'll usually just drive on plain old eco but drive at 130 sometimes. I'm not an eco friendly driver and have heat blasting here at 23 to 25C
Wait until you test a Polestar 2. I tested it this weekend and Google maps doesn't automatically add chargers but does tell you you won't make it, then gives you options of charge points along the route at the right intervals.
The more I see this the new Kia Soul the more I want one. It also comes in a colour scheme to match my Giant - if colour coordination is a good thing. I just need to find some extra cash, think these will hold their value on the used market for a while
I’d love to have a go in one of these and the new Honda E. I quite like the body design and having never driven an EV I’d be interested to see whether the charging network would put me off. Great video 👍
Good evening pal, liked the link lol. These electric vehicles have come a long way. I like this Kia, the roof colour sets it off. I wouldn’t say no. Again, Kia have really come a long way since the first Rio, especially in that god awful weird Gold/Mustard colour they did, yuk. I would be a Tesla man if we went electric tbh. Happy birthday for this coming week T. X
Hi Pete Hope you are all well mate Iv driven the Skoda yeti and found it very Comfortable which pleasantly surprised to me I think the front-end of this Kia Soul looks like a range Rover that has been shrunk in the wash can’t say I’m a big fan of the backend just doesn’t look right to me. But I do like Kia cars as my wife had a Kia Sportage which was lovely to drive Catch up soon mate 👍👍👍👍👍 Ps Was there a bloody big Bee 🐝 in the car with you lol lol 😝
Very good review thanks, yes it is very similar inside to the eNiro. For me I would choose the eNiro first, for size, the Soul second, and the Kona third. Yes the charging network is flawed, we need to break the motorway services stranglehold of Ecotricity, they have too few, and they are notoriously unreliable. If all services had a bank of 10 rapid chargers, that are maintained, life would be so much better. Parking fines for ICE vehicles in electric bays need to be eye watering, otherwise the investment in the bay is wasted. This is such an easy win for a green initiative.
Neat little motor, as you say we just need to get the other manufacturers to suss out the charging network. I don't get why they can't all agree a standard so that you set up your account against your car and as you plug in, the car passes the details to the charging network so that they can bill your account. So you never have to do anything you just plug in anywhere and all the charge networks know how to bill you. I would have thought the likes of Visa and Mastercard would have been all over this!?
The front reminds me of the Mitsubishi outlander & the rear inspired by the 2007 Renault megane. It looks different but well designed in & out & I think it would an enjoyable car to drive. Brilliant review👍.
Like this car. I live in an apartment in Stockholm and have no home charging. I just wondered how the car would be affected standing in freezing conditions for a few days without use. Would it loose charge or not really affect it at all. Any ideas ? By the way , enjoy your channel and seeing the lovely English countryside that I miss so much.
Yes, fair doo’s, an excellent review I hope that you achieve your 100k subscribers. Unfortunately I’m on my last car now because I am a pensioner a new car is out of the question, I love these electric cars and this one would certainly be on my list. Isn’t it windy, no it’s Friday now put the kettle on.
I would quite happily purchase that. It would be a great fit for my family needs.. you bring cars to the forefront that I would not have thought about or even considered. Thanks Pete 👍
My wife and I test drove one, we thought we’d like it having previously owned a diesel variant in cream with a very light cream upholstery and dash. Unfortunately we didn’t ! We found it a bit claustrophobic something another blogger thought too. We then tried the Nero, loved it ordered a 4+ electric which hopefully arrives in a couple of weeks time, early December.
Haha, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the front of the Kia Soul was: „I‘m your father.“ It reminds me of Darth Vader. The exterior design is somewhat astonishing for me. In a way it‘s kind of cool, ugly, quirky and ingenious at the same time. That‘s why I think there is a market for it, there will be customers who like the car a lot and buy it. But not many, you won‘t see the car on every corner. And that is great! I do agree that it is a very practical car, easy to drive and useful in rural areas in particular. But as you mentioned, the infrastructure still is poor - especially in Germany. There are far to few charging points. That’s why I decided to buy a car with a combustion engine once again. Coming back to the Kia Soul again, it’s a great thing that there are manufacturers who create something special, I’m fed up with cars looking all the same as is the case in the VW „imperium“. Thanks a lot for your video, Pete. I enjoyed it very much, 100000 subscribers won‘t be long!
Another great review. Electric cars or even hybrids are such a different experience. They are here to stay ans will only get better, more affordable and chargers more prevalent in my view. I'm not sure I could own one, but I'd love to have a go in one, so make of that what you will. Over 70K. Wow! 100K by Christmas is my bet!
Am I weird for liking the background melody whilst you was giving the spec?? Sounded cool through these Bose headphones. Right, that’s my strange admission moment over lol.
I loved this car when I tested it after renting one in gas since not available in electric yet. I purchased the 2020 XLine white pearl and I have friends who thought I was nuts. Once they also tried it they liked it too. The only electric car available in our island from Kia is the Niro. Hope we have the Soul EV soon too. Thanks for your review. Xoxo from Puerto Rico 👍🇵🇷
I like that. Aggressive front styling and looks like it belongs in 2020. Back end is a bit Peugeot 107 and not quite so keen on that end. Not sure if it can do it but maybe it would be handy if you could change things like the regen-braking with voice commands rather than have to fiddle with settings? We’ll gloss over the Skoda Yeti comment...
Nice car, looks are oke, the front is gorgious but the back is not my taste but the inside is super..overall KIA is getting a better/stronger manifacturer en their cars are looking better every year. Thumbs up for this car & video 👍👍
I've had my e-Soul for a year now, and I've driven around 28000km in it. At the moment I get around 10km/kWh driving to work. It's a funky car, but boy... it's a pleasure to drive, even on long stretches :) Road noise is very low imo, driving on Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires.
I applaud manufacturers who think outside the box and break the humdrum mould, but I guess that this approach is always at a risk of tanking. Personally I like to drive cars that are different from the run of the mill and quirky, hence I drive an i3, so I quite like the fresh exterior looks of the soul. I'm not a fan of the interior though, typical Kia, too much black plastic for my taste, I prefer a lighter interior colour as i feel it uplifts the interior ambiance, particularly if it incorporates a panoramic glass roof, they did have the sense though to incorporate a light colour headlining! On the plus side, Kia do provide tons of kit and toys together with their legendary 7 year warranty. I'm sure that it would be a very capable, useable urban car and would be a no-brainer for some if the price wasn't so high. Another enjoyable review, thank you Peter.
with my audi PHEV I am really struggling to find charging to keep between 20-80% charge, and hard for a full charge due to not enough local chargers and expensive public charging in the UK. I cannot charge at home sadly... so been running on petrol mostly! And I agree, it is a faff and no integration for charge points that I can use (as I use a rubbish fuel/charge card due to company car rules), and I cannot access any local charge points on that service.
As a former Yeti owner I agree on the looks, this will certainly be on the short list when I change my car. I currently have an Ioniq electric and while I agree about the charging network it is getting better. I always try to use Instavolt chargers as they don't require any sort of app, just a contactless credit/debit card. Other than that get Shell recharge card/app and you have access to 165000 charging stations across Europe. It's still not as good as Tesla but at least it's just one card or app and one account.
Hi from down under Victoria Aus currently experiencing covid stages 3 & 4 lockdown. Wondered if you could bring a smile by reviewing the 2020 Kia Forte GT sedan or hatch. I think its a much under appreciated warm sedan / hatch! Cheers.
Afternoon Pete, How did the miles work out in the time you had it, ie what you did and what it started out on, was there a great difference,?. Good to see you review wide range of cars ,when you said about the home charger do you mean the three pin plug ?..
What a great quirky looking car,I think it looks pretty cool,I would definitely have one, hope there's room to put a mountain bike in the back with seats down 🤔,this soul ev and the mg zs ev are on my shortlist for next car in 3 years, I actually think the soul ev looks better but the mg zs ev is cheaper to buy , be a hard decision between the two , this soul ev has Great range and performance too and I think it looks good inside as well as outside, the seats look good quality too an everything looks well layed out and easy to find, great car , I just hope the charging network is better soon and we have ev charging stations like petrol stations with lots of separate charge points for maybe 20 or 30 EVs and cafe to grab a cuppa tea lol 👌👍
The Mini drives even better but doesn’t come close on range. However the Mini is cheaper and aimed at a slightly different market. The Mini is really a second car, the Soul EV could be a primary car 👍
@@PetrolPed I did. Had to go out of Toronto, where I live, to find one. In Canada, they only sell them in solid colors so we had our white one painted two tone red and white like they sell in Britain. Thanks for reviewing this car. So far, super happy with it.
I do begrudgingly like it, although I do have a C-HR at the moment and previously a Montego and Maestro so can't say too much. The range would be enough, the boot is small but most of the time it is only MrsB and myself and would take us and our luggage to Meva.
@@PetrolPed One problem is that the repayments would be nearly £200 per month more than what I'm paying for the C-HR, financially it doesn't make sense as I don't spend much more than £40 per month on fuel
Did you mention the Sat Nav? Oh and I totally agree with the whole charging network, I have god knows how many apps on my phone with as many accounts and cards in my wallet. Where I live in Suffolk, nr Bury, the car park spaces are about big enough for a Smart Car and thats if the charger is working. Until the infrastructure is in place, people will not buy these cars. Mine is a PHEV Optima which is quite a big car, but stupid e-dedicated parking is ridiculous.
I love quirky styling on car. This is no exception. Thanks for the review Pete. Also, I too don’t understand how charging networks didn’t get it right. We should be able to arrive to a charge point and pay with a debit card. No messing with apps. Quite appalling to be honest.
With reference to range, surely if the car is used 90% around town, it will exceed that 250m range. These ranges are generally including mixed driving whereas most journeys are short town trips. I think someone needs to do some range checks on mainly city/town trips, no reviewers seem to do this range test but will make guesstimates as to the real range. They should also do "kick down" timings at various speeds for overtakes as thats more important and 0-60 (or 0-speeding ticket)
Over 300 miles is easily achievable with city urban driving. Don't forget during cold weather range is shortened, but even 70mph motorway driving in December should still see over 200 mile range

Excellent vid as always Pete. It's the future so we might as well embrace it now. Still want an AMG Mercedes 6.3 V8!!
Me too 😂
I'm getting next year's model the updated Kia R Soul ! .
I agree with you on the Yeti. I always wanted one. It just had a quirky look and apparently it's pretty good for off road tattooing too....
I heard that 👍
I have diesel Kia Soul and I love it, just wish they still made it. Not ready to go electric yet plus I really hate the rear styling of the new one.
Batteries in cars last pretty well. The cold temps won’t help though 😢
Awesome vlog❤
Great review Pete as usual.
Thanks Chas 👍
I would quite happily purchase that. It would be a great fit for my family needs.. you bring cars to the forefront that I would not have thought about or even considered. Thanks Pete 👍
My wife and I test drove one, we thought we’d like it having previously owned a diesel variant in cream with a very light cream upholstery and dash. Unfortunately we didn’t ! We found it a bit claustrophobic something another blogger thought too. We then tried the Nero, loved it ordered a 4+ electric which hopefully arrives in a couple of weeks time, early December.
The Niro is brilliant 👌

Thanks 🙏 love your excellent Vlogs.
Thanks Stephen. When I drive the eNiro to Hamburg I was shocked how poor German EV charging infrastructure was 😢
You can’t turn off the lane departure warning. The way round it, is to use the indicator and then the audio warning won’t sound.
You can actually turn off lane departure warning, there's a dedicated button for it (beside the steering wheel, on the dashboard on the window side).
I love my 10 y old Kia Soul and i wish i can buy new one 😍😍😍
Another great review. Electric cars or even hybrids are such a different experience. They are here to stay ans will only get better, more affordable and chargers more prevalent in my view. I'm not sure I could own one, but I'd love to have a go in one, so make of that what you will.
Over 70K. Wow! 100K by Christmas is my bet!
That would be amazing but I think early next year 👍
Am I weird for liking the background melody whilst you was giving the spec?? Sounded cool through these Bose headphones. Right, that’s my strange admission moment over lol.
😂😂😂
i liked the petrol kia soul and yes big fan of the skoda yeti practical and good style.
What do you think about 235 50 17 on the font?
Skoda Yeti - yes a car I really admire, a simple practical alternative to all the overblown SUVs.
Yep 👍
I think the Kia Soul is a nice looking car, I am certainly interested in taking one out for a test drive, I've never tried a full EV car.
You should 👍
I love the looks, totally different, saying that my wife said, ' err, whats that?
what is the range at 80mph on the motorway
What country are you driving in at 80mph on the motorway?
Hi what do you think is better the Soul or the VW ID3 ?
Not driven the VW yet 😢
I love this quirky wee beast.
The EV version will be worth the wait 👍
Nu in de herfst rijd ik 15.7 gemiddeld bij 10 graden. Echt een zuinige Supercar.
LOL 😂
I'm hoping my current (conventional) Soul holds on a few years so that I can trade in for a used one of these .
Hi Pete my daily is a BMW i3s which I love but I would certainly think about a Kia Soul in the future.
Cant go from a BMW to a Kia
Theres laws against that type of thing
Dale Steel you may have a point.
i3 is a great car 👍
@@nigelcresswell3630 We moved UP from a Volvo XC40 ... no regrets at all (and people let you out of junctions as well).
Nice car, looks are oke, the front is gorgious but the back is not my taste but the inside is super..overall KIA is getting a better/stronger manifacturer en their cars are looking better every year. Thumbs up for this car & video 👍👍
Thanks Bud 👍
True, great little car but when will you get a good quality audio equipment ? Good video !
Watch this...audio sorted 👍

I've had my e-Soul for a year now, and I've driven around 28000km in it. At the moment I get around 10km/kWh driving to work. It's a funky car, but boy... it's a pleasure to drive, even on long stretches :) Road noise is very low imo, driving on Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires.
Nice 👌
Cheers David 👍
with my audi PHEV I am really struggling to find charging to keep between 20-80% charge, and hard for a full charge due to not enough local chargers and expensive public charging in the UK. I cannot charge at home sadly... so been running on petrol mostly! And I agree, it is a faff and no integration for charge points that I can use (as I use a rubbish fuel/charge card due to company car rules), and I cannot access any local charge points on that service.
Bought one Yesterday! 🙂
Cheers.
I’ll ask the question 👍
@@PetrolPed Cheers keep the clips coming, stay safe in the UK!
Yeti fan here! What are the esoul's head restraints like? Very Hyundai or Kia I've ever been in has given me neck pain, it's a deal breaker
Can’t say I noticed to be honest 😬
Smashing it lately
Thank You 🙏🏻
Looks a great car a have always liked the shape of them if I could I would
Good review and good car, like the looks too, def funky. Thought you were going to look at a Jag i-pace for yourself?
I love the iPace to drive. Sadly it doesn’t have the range I need. Waiting for the Model Y Tesla 👍
Afternoon Pete, How did the miles work out in the time you had it, ie what you did and what it started out on, was there a great difference,?. Good to see you review wide range of cars ,when you said about the home charger do you mean the three pin plug ?..
No I meant a 7kw charge box. About £300 to install 👍
@@PetrolPed so how many miles would you expect per hour on the granny charger,as I'm writing this I'm watching vintage voltage lol.
How does the Kia Soul EV compare to the Mini-E?
The Mini drives even better but doesn’t come close on range. However the Mini is cheaper and aimed at a slightly different market. The Mini is really a second car, the Soul EV could be a primary car 👍
Great review. Honest. I think I am going to get one.
You should 👍
@@PetrolPed I did.
I reckon a drive could seal the deal 😜😂
I agree 👍
I have a Kia Soul EV and I find it will do about 4.2kwh on motorways on eco mode. So, it's easy to get over 250 miles.
