    Learning how to change my play styles to match the builds was a big learning moment for me. It also allowed me to change my rune setups for myself and have a mental connection to how it should affect the way I play.

    It always tilts me beyond belief when people, especially those who have been playing a while, still do not know the runes, do not know the items. They have a "program" that automatically makes the runes for them. Like, 30% of the game relies directly on your runes and itemization because it heavily affects your playstyle. Even worse, you have runes that you have no idea what they are or what they do and you cannot utilize them accordingly.
    It's even more insane when those kinds of players are the ones complaining about how they cannot climb, how it's always their team's fault, when they literally begin the games with a handicap and are not able to abuse 100% of their champion's kit.
    It's baffling to me that even after all these years and all these countless guides, people not only do not understand the importance of runes and items (and playstyle, of course), but also a lot of them don't even know what they do.

      riots rune removal made this worse

    • @yGKeKe
      @yGKeKe 2 года назад +7

      I'm not sure you understand just how many champions there are in the game or the number of possibly rune setups that exist. It takes a lot of champion mastery to adjust runes on a specific champion for each specific game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with looking at the most common setups amongst challenger players, or even for a safe default on a champion you don't have much experience with yet.
      PS: Your rune setup doesn't mean shit when half your team is running it down and can't handle game fundamentals. Seriously, even top level players who are good enough to hard carry 80%+ of their games still occasionally lose because their teams are just that fucking bad.

    • @ArcaneTricksterRS
      @ArcaneTricksterRS 2 года назад +2

      @@yGKeKe I don't disagree with your PS, but I consider myself being at the skill level I currently am simply because I'm able to optimize (or nearly optimize) runes and items based on matchup, team comps and possible game states. Of course, it won't always matter, of course there will be games where all 5 enemies will have wrong runes, all your teammates will have correct ones and you will still lose, but that's besides the point.
      The point is that most people don't care about runes / items. They don't read what each rune / item does, they don't care. They find the easy solution of copying a rune page and build path and that's it, and it ends up making them play to the 90% of their power instead of 100%. I never said you need to know beforehand the specific rune/item setup for every single matchup, but you should be able to put some thought into it on your own and understand on the spot what's best. Or, when there is a patch change that tweaks Scorch for example, you need to be able to identify how impactful the change is and if you should pick it more often now.
      I also look up runes and items to see what's more successful because obviously I cannot always know what's more effective, but more often than not, I create my own rune pages and itemization that fits my playstyle, because I have put thought into it and know what's best. You can call it me being high IQ or whatever, it doesn't matter; the thing is that I put in the time to learn and understand, and most of the people who complain about being unable to climb have not.
      Also, that's why most pros / coaches advise you only play 2-3 champions. That's how you master their mechanics, but also their rune setups and build paths.

    • @2big2fail2
      @2big2fail2 2 года назад +2

      @@yGKeKe Indeed, but you forget that the reason they hard carry 80%+ of their games is because they pay attention to details such as runes, small item/combo optimisation which make the difference between excellent players. For your first paragraph I somewhat agree, I would say it's better to copy/look into top builds/runes from other players in ranked specifically when you're new on a champ. However, this often induces the laziness to actually think WHY and WHEN you pick them, like a calculator in maths or a GPS in real life.

    I love this video’s concept about synergising the four areas and how they alter champion identity when you go for a completely different set up outside the norm. I found this video after having already changed the identities of a few champions into a play style I really enjoy.
    For example I changed Diana from her typical Conqueror + AP set up into Phase Rush + Critical/AS in the jungle. This turned her from the AP bruiser everyone knows her as, into a brutal crit assassin that takes pleasure in beating you down and knowing you can’t escape her grasp. I’ve dominated most of my matches with her in this new identity because no one knows how to handle it right.
    I’ve also changed the identity of Naafiri, the newest champion in league, into being a brutal powerhouse in most of the lanes. With three rune sets and 12 item builds to complement them, I’ve taken her from a feared mid laner/jungler, into even being a devastating kill lane/roaming support that can keep up in damage even into the late game. She loses none of her kill potential while her builds I’ve made grant her an astounding amount of utility so she remains useful even if she’s behind.
    One I found on accident, because I forgot to change my runes in champ select is Phase Rush Leona (I accidentally took my Diana runes and was dreading the match at first). This accident was a happy one, as I lost none of my ability to build her as a tank, but it also vastly opened up roam potential, allowing me to become River Leona, and my team snowballed incredibly hard with my increased map presence between levels 6-9(it also helps I have her at M7 and know her inner workings well enough to compensate for my lack of attention).
    These are but a few I’ve found that I wanted to share. To show that you’re 1,000% correct about synergy between runes, items, play style, and the odd occasion of summoner spells making the biggest difference of them all (and they are important. You don’t want to take Cleanse/TP as Leona unless you absolutely know how it’ll help your lane. But you can get away with taking exhaust or ignite alongside flash a lot easier since 99% matchups require one or the other.)

    I remember one of the 2-3 your videos that took me to D4 in season 9.
    It was a 2+h video about itemization.
    Would you please consider doing an itemization long and detailed video in these days?
    New items are kinda messy. The logic behind items before the mythic/legendary shit was pretty linear. There was a linear line of thought and being wrong was rare.
    I remember I could think at my build and suggesting items to my 4 teamm8s (in flexQ) in call in a bunch of seconds.
    Now I struggle doing that kind of stuff.
    It FEELS all meta-dependent. I mean, with human logic I wouldn't ever think about building Blade of the ruined king on Renekton. But it works. It works great. It works and you do it when you are updated and some korean dude tried it and it worked.
    I'm not saying that i'm the silver guy that does not know what to build. I'm saying that I have to double/triple check and checking at least 10 games of 3-4 master+ players on u.gg before being sure that there aren't more good choices.

      So imagine this scenario Curtis showed (Syndra vs Victor), both pretty equal, both getting low, imagine Syndra instead of TP had Ignite. Victor wants to shove wave, recall and TP back to lane right? What Syndra can do? She literally have an edge on the lane and have multiple options, either keep Victor on lane (denying his recall), baiting him and finishing him in case he gets baited, or shove the wave and recall (and letting Victor finishing wave aswell).

    It's not about how you "feel" playing the match-up. It's about what the champions want to accomplish in the game and what is the optimal way of getting to that point. It doesn't matter if you. Cookies are inexcusable if your champion relies on getting powerspike items. In that case, the most optimal path to those items is Future's market, because the powerspike you get from these "core/power" items is infinitely more valuable than the dept you go for those items and "cookeis-scorch feels nice".

    Scorch vs Syndra on Viktor? Like you lose the lane anyway unless you are better, in both cases gathering storm is better than scorch. On Viktor vs Yone, if Yone goes second wind d shield you cannot poke him out so just go gathering storm since if he doesn't go those 2 things you win anyway and if he does you can't win. Also phase rush has been forgotten on mages, aery can be used but it really doesn't do a lot of damage meanwhile phase rush can and will save and get you an extra auto or so. I love it vs things like Trundle you can just run away. Viktor vs Corki I think is good for first strike since if he goes defensive, you can't poke him out so just farm him and get your mythic faster to have a chance to break him but if he doesn't then you win anyway and with a fast mythic he can't walk up. If you build deathcap or infinity edge, you go gathering storm.

    • @robbierotten3123
      @robbierotten3123 2 года назад

      The reason people take scorch in that way is to go even. The idea is that if you take gathering storm then your going to get even more fisted in the laning phase. Taking scorch allows you to go even in lane and eventually out scale the syndra.

    • @dawidlol1337
      @dawidlol1337 2 года назад

      @@robbierotten3123 but why do you need to be even? Is the 5 extra cs really going to be of more value than getting a needlesly for free? You need to define what is winning since if I have gathering and my opponent has scorch and I am slightly 'behind' in cs or whatever, I am actually winning since I will still be stronger anyway. Same thing for ADCs taking cookies except mages go sorcery usually so you can get away with cookies. Like if you are Viktor vs Lucian ok maybe scorch is viable.

    • @ArcaneTricksterRS
      @ArcaneTricksterRS 2 года назад

      Scorch in Viktor v Syndra is a way to balance out the lane a bit. Syndra is much stronger early because of shorter cooldowns and bigger range (thus better trading, better waveclear) therefore Viktor definitely loses lane if both players play at the same level. Scorch will make it so that you at least are able to trade back a bit, so that even if you have lower HP, you are at least bring Syndra down to an HP threshold where she is vulnerable to a gank, so she also has to be a bit more careful with her trades. That extra 80 damage you get from Scorch until level 3 can be huge in that situation. Also, it does deal quite significant damage before 10 minutes. It's overtime damage, but it's still there and it can potentially grant you kills (or minion/xp advantage) in situations that wouldn't be granted otherwise, and that means that you get access to an Amp Tome that you wouldn't before (Amp Tome = GS value at 20 minutes), or you create an advantage, which basically translates into GS value as well.
      In a meta where games are generally decided before 20 minutes, it's best to just have the most agency in the game, thus Aery and Scorch being the best right now. Of course, if playing 5v5 flex or clash where you can communicate with your friends and control the pace of the game, you can definitely create a plan where GS works wonders, where you can also go Phase Rush as well etc. But at this very moment, the damage that Aery and Scorch combined grant for Viktor is huge. It ties in perfectly with your E cooldown, it basically makes the laser deal 30% more damage early.

    • @CoachCurtis
      @CoachCurtis  2 года назад

      Scorch vs. Syndra for sure. You need it to relieve pressure, especially since Scorch buffs.

      Nope. Even though I love Gathering Storm and the safety net if provides if the game goes late, Scorch is much better on most champions. Games are decided by the 15 minute mark. One team has a big advantage, one player is super ahead and 1v9s, the other team is tilting and flaming the jungler. All you gotta do is have the tools to enable your team to be the one with the advantage.
      If your whole gameplan revolves around staying safe until 30 minutes and then my GS will pop off, then I have some bad news, unless you are in silver, where games actually go to 40 minutes.

      i did the maths ,all the secondary runes are actually balanced,gathering storm gives you the same amount of gold value as treasure hunter,free boots and biscuits/futures market, or scorch at more or less the same exact timeframes,choosing between them is a matter of deciding which of them work well with your champ and whether you need to spike early or a little late ,the downsides of gathering storm is that the other runes come online earlier than gathering storm ,but gathering storm becomes better only marginally at the 30 minute mark,and you get about 40 more ap at 40 minute mark,for example treasure hunter gives 550 gold at 5 stacks,which is equivalent to about 30 AP in gold value,if you finish treasure hunter at the 10 minute mark as a jungler lets say,gathering storm would take 20 minutes to get 24 AP so double the time,so this is where the champions,roles and playstyles matter,if there's no way in hell you will max out your treasure hunter before 20 minutes,say you're playing Top or ADC,then gathering storm might be better
      now one might think "meh,i think that the scaling on gathering storm is op because it's always conssitent and at the 30 minute mark it turbo spikes especially with rabadon!" which begs the question,do you value AP that is equivalent to about 800 gold at the 30 minute mark ,where pretty much all the important decisions have been made and the team that made better decisions are basically reaping the benefits of them winning the early game? you might as well be hitting their nexus at the 30 minute mark,will the blasting wand help you pentakill the enemy team when your entire team is behind 5k gold? if gathering storm gave 200 ap at the 40 minute mark,i still wouldn't go gathering storm because the game is already over,but if you get an amplifying tome that will stick with you from the 8 minute mark til the end of the game,that is 10x more damage and value acquired from it over time, vs a 40 AP that i will only possibly use for 5 minutes ,and that's assuming the game goes past 30 minutes,and it still wont affect the game that much

      The match making system is rigged so that the best players climb ranks and the others do not. If you can't climb that's a skill issue not the game's fault.

      @@coolbrotherf127 idk man i love my bot lane to be 3/15 by 15 minx almost every game. mostly hilarious its when bot is 2v2 without any of the jungler camping or ganking them. Ma faouvirte i had reksai jungle vs zac both start red on blues isde for rek aka my team and zec on enemy on blue side both double leash. at the end both do full clear. zac managed to gank top while reksai just barely running towards top scuttke after finishing his gromp. how in the world reksai have slower full clear than zac's full clear ? like today i have kayn enemy jungle cmaping my top lane literally for 3 straght minutes without killing me wasting time and my viego useless jungle doing nothing, aka not ivading or ganking other lanes. very hard to carry as top laner like myself when 3 of your teammates constantly troll. int and feed even when i help them.
