The question appears to involve some ambiguous semantics. Is it asking if "nothing" was somehow THE CAUSE of the universe or is it asking if the universe simply "appeared" without a cause? If "nothing" was the cause of the universe, then it wasn't "nothing."

Science tries to disprove its favourite ideas, religion protects its great ideas at all costs. They are opposed ways of understanding, with Nothing in common.

@@xMorogothx I’m also puzzled as to why anyone would fine this disturbing. On the contrary, I find the idea that everything just began, implying that before this, there was eternally “nothing,” to be the disturbing notion.
I mean, just think about that: what if there was always nothing? Nevermind this flawed (in my opinion) notion that something just began-imagine that always there was really never anything!

At the moment - most commentators say - 'we don't know' - about this issue of - nothing.
What if they are merely a minute or nano second - from a possible real answer ?
In India - Raja yoga meditation - there is a famous hint - 'that there is every chance - of something impossible - happening - also.'
There is so much wonder - to research. Humans - should always proceed - thus. With open attitude ?
May the capable Guide - come into the life lived - may one - share in the result - of inner research and how the tapestry - of inner and outer existence - of time, space and love - heart and mind - are realised.
    Fare the well.
