As Will pointed out, the tourist & snowbird industry will lose revenues because of this added burden. Vets will have another time slot to fill and many places are suffering from a shortage of vets already.
the impact on long haul truckers, of whom many have their canine companion on the road with them, will be huge. with that though at this point, the truckers are a huge voice and can most likely be the ones to get these coming rules modified
US Border state dog clubs will be supremely compromised by the lack of Canadian exhibitors. (And vice versa.) Many take their whole crew on summer circuits stateside. Canadian rabies certification is only good for one time import. Much more amenable for American citizens. Shows on both sides of the border will lose many entrants, which impacts shopping, dining, hotels, gas. Huge contributors to the local economy and putting this in place for the summer with little lead time will be a nightmare. People that have summer cottages cross border will be in a predicament crossing back and forth throughout summer months. NOT well written, nor presented, as it seems most government workers, also, have no indication for interpretation of these rules.
All of the forms are stated as Import. Is not import different than domestic travel with your pet? I cross weekly for class into NY state and right now rabies certificates are not required for domestic travel into the US. As a border town we have people that have cottages and trailers that just cross for the weekend. I’m sure the border states will contest this because it will affect the $$ these states will lose from cross border travel.
Oh yes! A CDC recognized vet might mean going through CFIA which will be cause a backlog in their department. Thanks guys for your reassuring words that this is not quite etched in stone yet.

The regulation uping the required age to 6 mos. is absurd for people in Hawaii and Australia and NewZealand. Puppies need to socialize and be in their new homes long before 6 Months! Hawaii, NewZealand and Australia are REALLY rabies free. Also the airfreifght costs for Largebreed puppies goes way upas the pup who used to fly at 12 weeks, now is a hefty expensive 6 mos. old, and more jittery about flying
I think you guys were downplaying the negative effects this is going to have, especially for rare breeds that really need imports to bring in new bloodlines. Sure it still can be done but breeders are much less willing to hold dogs an extra 4 months and now many breeds will need to go in the cargo area of the airplane instead of in the cabin in a carrier.

Good podcast, but you didn't mention the cross border truck drivers and the situation it puts them in.

As someone who is American, living abroad in Sweden, rabies free - this is awful and ridiculous.

Hopefully the Canadian Snowbirds association also contacts the CDC….I know lots of people that travel with their pets…
