I'll admit, I'm no reality tv fan (I think it's the end of civilization, in fact). However, in terms of sheer storytelling and character development, he makes a great point here. It's always irked me to no end that many "heroes" and "villains" in film (and sometimes even in books) are extremely two-dimensional plot devices, even one-dimensional. The stereotype mustache twirler, the all-american wonderboy who everyone loves and who is everyone's friend. Stories with characters like this NEVER make any sense, not only because no one knows such people, but because it leads to pointless stories. The greatest villains have a lot of sympathetic qualities, you LIKE them, even relate, they've been WRONGED, you want to HEAL them. The best heroes are DAMAGED, INSECURE, almost LOSERS, overly arrogant pricks covering a massive inferiority complex who bitch and cry when the shooting starts, and you have NO faith that they can tie their shoes. And the company is funding the guns and raking in the cash. THAT is a world you can fucking believe, and a story you WANNA watch next week.
