  • The 2016 Big Ten Championship Game pitted the Wisconsin Badgers, champions of the West Division, who made its fourth appearance in six years in the conference title game, against the East Division champion Penn State Nittany Lions, who made their first-ever appearance in the conference championship game. Penn State and Ohio State had identical 8-1 conference records, but Penn State won the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Buckeyes.

    This Penn State team was nearly unstoppable in the second half. This is the only game I can remember where Penn State was trailing 28-7 and I wasn't concerned.

      same... I wasn't that concern at the moment, which is weird for today.

      Losing by 40 in Ann Arbor probably didn't help things. Along with that fluke play.

      Brooks Hooley beating the #2 team in the nation overshadows that but good observation bud 😂

      Amazing how back in 2016 all the committee cared about was how bad were a teams losses instead of like this years commitee that cares more about who you beat

    • @ilipan2668

      And then Ohio lost 0-31. Penn State would have at least put up a field goal. Buckeyes nearly lost to Michigan State and NW iirc.

    McSorley along w/ Joe Moorhead calling plays were DYNAMIC!!! Brent Pry on the other hand blew so many leads w/ his defensive calls - a damn shame - He personally killed the ROSE BOWL, or what should've been a ROSE BOWL VICTORY.

      I really wish the committee could rank by how hot the team was and not record. The best teams in the country at that point were us usc Clemson and Bama

    • @ilipan2668
      @ilipan2668 4 года назад +9

      There needs to be recency bias. PSU was playing lights out after mid-September, easily #1 in B1G and #2 overall behind Bama. If non conference wasnt a factor they would at least be #3 behind Bama/Clemson.

    I'm just noticing (or remembering) that Allen and Haley combined on the stop for the win here. Those are the two guys with the blocked kick and scoop and score against Ohio State that year. All-time clutch players in Penn State history lol.

    Ive been following PSU since the 89 season, Trace is hands down the best QB, you never felt like you were out of a game with him at the helm. PS If Joe PA would have started Michael Robinson more seasons, he might have been the best.
