I love all 4runners. They are all beast. Hands down, they are tanks. Specially the 3rd gens. Imma be getting a 4runner 3rd gen sr5 with 197k miles. That aint nothing for a 4runner. im stoked.
this for real made me laugh out loud. Cause im on the same boat as you bro. hahah. ;) and i have no regrets about it. I love my 2wd 3rd gen sr5. Still takes me anywhere i personally go to. Camping, Playing in dirt and mild rock climbing. Which is good enough for me.
I think in this particular situation your track width played a bigger role than the increase in travel tbh really cool mod though, I bet its ace for blasting across the desert
12345 54321 it will definitely be short geared with 33s and 5.29s. I did that for a short while before I got new tires and I actually liked it. Better to plan ahead on the gears while you’re in there and get it over with in round 1!
@@Opt.Offroad I guess I'll go with 5.29's since I've got plans on adding some weight here and there. I'll just minimize highway use while on 33's. Thank you for your opinion.
Blake Bentzen 3rd gen, for two reasons. 1- 3rd gens are generally a better vehicle for offroading. More compact, simpler, more rugged, better options out of the box (like the rear locker). 2- a center locker is not an actual “locker” like you’re thinking. It’s nice to have if you DD your truck in snow a lot, so you can unlock it and have AWD as opposed to 4WD, but for offroading it’s much more of a downgrade than anything. A 4Runner without a “center locker” button still has a “center locker”. It’s just always locked. Does that make sense? Without the button there are less mechanics and wiring, thus more reliable and bulletproof. I would encourage anyone wanting to use their truck for wheeling to stay away from a truck with the center lock button

I'd be the 2WD guy running with the 4WD guys... getting stuck and spending money on long travel for no reason lol

@@Rdallday i got an 01 sr5 too, wanted to get into some light offroading. Where are u locted? What kinda mods did you do?
I want a 3rd gen 2rd, locker, regeared, 32-33”s, and mid travel.
Best for last🤤

How do you like the 5.29's? I'm planning on going 4.88's. But thinking about 5.29's. I'm only running 33's
12345 54321 I’d say 4.88s are perfect for 33s on our trucks. I love my 5.29s, wouldn’t run anything else to be honest but I’ve got 35s
@@Opt.Offroad would it be over kill if I do 5.29's now then run 35's later? And did you chopped a lot to fit 35's? Thank you for your time.

12345 54321 just some pounding, no chopping. But I have a 2in body lift
