  • FIRST DRIVE: It's time to see how the 2025 4Runner does when it goes down the road. The Platinum trim is all new from Toyota. On the outside you will notice a unique grill, 20in wheels and raised roof rails. On the inside you will be greeted by soft-tex material and a 14in infotainment screen size. Under the hood is the i-Force MAX which consists of a 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 paired with an electric motor and 8-speed automatic transmission. Does the 2025 Toyota 4Runner DRIVE better without the V6?

    The T24A-FTS 2.4L turbo has alrrafy been out since 2021 with basically zero issues. It's ready proving itself to be a bulletproof engine and has had a better start in life than the 4.0L V6.
    The 4.0L V6 on the other hand had head gasket issues in the first couple years and is known for overheating and warping it's block. But everyone ignores this because it's 21 years old.

      People are complaining about the transmission issues in the Tacoma. Which is in fact not an engine problem. 😂
      Pretty much all of the complaints about specifically the T24A-FTS is the fact that it's not a V6. Which I frankly don't understand because the Toyota V6 has never sounded good regardless on if it was the 4.0L or 3.5L NA V6's.
      Now the V35A-FTS, that's definitely had a rough start and there are definitely complaints everywhere as there should be. A lot of the complaints there have been justified.

      Did you already forget? The turbo tundras have been TERRIBLE. And the Tacoma transmissions fail left and right smh.
      It’s not just the turbos. The new Toyota standard isn’t reliability anymore…..It’s profit and technological complexity.
      The Camry and Corolla and most crossovers are okay tho as long as they aren’t turbo.

    • @jordangreen1221
      @jordangreen1221 7 дней назад

      @ You have to remember this is a new generation of vehicles, there are going to be issues. But Toyota consistently provides consumers with good warranties and continues to work on those issues and like every generation the later ones will be more reliable than the first year models (Plus Toyota will have that model for like 8-12 years without a new gen). Every manufacturer deals with the same thing, it’s just bound to happen. Regarding the Tundra that is a completely new take on their hybrid system, Toyota has only ever worked with a 4 cylinder engine for their hybrids and are trying something new for this generation with adding a hybrid to the 6cylinder, that is a work in progress. And when you’re dealing with Trucks that have to carry loads and when you have new transmissions in those things, this will happen. I can guarantee there is still that standard of reliability, and Toyota very much values that, but they also have to take into consideration the market and what’s trending as well as new efficiency regulations they have to abide by. That’s why they’ve added so much new tech because when everyone is dropping a 13 inch screen and they’re making breaking numbers in sales, you kind of have to adapt to that. That’s why they also moved away for those traditional engines especially when you have electric turbos and all these new car technologies that give better performance but are under new efficiency regulations.

    I honestly love this new model, it looks very modern and sleek. Only thing is, usually first year of a brand new generation always has a ton of bugs and issues. Ill let them iron out the issues and maybe ill get it.

    I don’t think the reliability is going to be that bad. It might not be as good as the V6 because the V6 was just out so long. But just a point out the reason why everyone’s salty about this engine and transmission is the Tacoma, but that’s made in the Mexico plant. Where the 4Runner is still made in Japan so the quality is very likely going to be higher on the 4runner than the Tacoma. Still not sure on the price increases though because some of the trims went up a lot the SR5 is probably the Best Buy because it stayed the same price as the previous generation

    Got an underground grey tacoma and Love that underground on the 4runner. Still not 💯 on the tacoma copy and paste look. I liked how the last gen had its own look. Dont mind the 4cyl turbo, its great on my Tacoma however if toyota worked on the old 4.0 v6 refined it and paired it with the 8 speed that thing would be amazing

    My 2008 back seats fold all the way to a point I have a flat sleeping area, this was as disappointing as the center storage. As for the engine, I am ok with the 4 cylinder, but hasn't it have issues in the other models already, not sure you want to be the first unless you lease it, turbos are not gonna last as long. Not loving the middle pertruding screen either, but I know some love that.

    I bought a new 23 4Runner SR5. Drove it from Miami to Malibu, before the fires
    It was great, on the highway, but around town, it struggled. Just big and clumsy
    I'm a little confused by the benefits of the hybrid. You only get a couple of MPG
    And the added weight kill any acceleration advantage. Nice specs, but not much value
