I don’t agree. The Sikhs here in Canada can be very violent and extreme in their desire for a separate khalistani state. They blew up an Air India flight with 100’s of people on board because of this stupidity. Hardly on a higher spiritual plane than us.
What if our brains are just phase-array antennae, which connect us to a non-local field of consciousness... maybe our physical forms are just little bumper cars through which said consciousness solves problems and entertains itself? Jung kinda touched on that notion... Remember, if the mass of the brain were the mass of the mind, the bear would be shooting at my behind 😉
Yeah, like a swarm of remotely controlled drones or cars. Or an animal actor in a movie, controlled by an off-screen trainer. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that last bit. Are you saying that there's no correlation between brain size and intelligence? I'm not saying there is, but I once read that the reason large animals often have large brains is because a huge part of the brain's function is to control the muscles. Imagine the muscles of a whale, for example, you need a lot of brain to control those muscles.
@@apocryphalshepherd In brain chemistry, there are (mainly) two intertwined factors that affect the throughput of consciousness: i) protein intake/reliance, and ii) heat dissipation. The more protein ingested, the more spark across synapses. There is a correlation over-time with diet and development, where we see (on a Darwinian timescale) creatures with high protein consumption (carnivores) being more active and adept at problem-solving which, over time, has effected the development and placement of ears and (moreso) eyes. High protein carnivores have ears that fold back to lie flat alongside the skull (for fighting with dinner) and two forward-facing eyes for better tracking in 3D environments; whereas low protein mammals (mainly herbivores) tend to have ears which swivel like radar (but do not fold defensively flat against the skull) and wide-spaced bilaterally placed eyes for the greatest range in field of vision, so as to hear and see approaching predators. The heat dissipation element is likely a limiting factor in the “percentage of brain utilized”; were we able to get enough energy to utilize the bulk of our brains, they’d run too hot beneath porous (insulated) skulls, and we’d cook ourselves with thought. We’re really only now entering a period where our species would be able to gather enough protein to amp up brain chemistry for a high percentage burn, but would still remain physically and genetically limited by the great anchor of our hard-headed ancestors. As for that last part - with bears shooting at our behinds, it was simply a little quip to say the size of the brain isn’t what governs our intellect or conscious potential, otherwise there’s quite a few larger mammals who would have us on their dinner plates - fresh human McNuggets at the McBear’s drive-thru. As for consciousness itself, I’m not sure we’ll ever riddle that out - it’s Schrödinger looking through a mirror at himself in a box instead of his cat. Though I rather like Douglas Adams’ attempt in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, where it was theorized that if ever anyone ever figured out the meaning behind the universe itself, everything in the universe would instantly disappear only to be replaced by something infinitely more complex… it has also been postulated that this has already happened 🤭 And I could be wrong about all of it - there's faith both beyond and throughout it all that has found it's way into our genetic memory since Grog first found fire, so... 🤷♂
I do believe they experience this, but i'm skeptical of an afterlife, i think its more our brain is giving the ultimate soft goodbye, like if he's saying cmon let it go, you're gonna be fine, you're gonna see your family and friends, move on and let go, but in the end the brain is gonna shut down and we die.
@larrycrowne8330 because we dont want to go, we are fighting no matter what, but when the brain and body Is in his ultimate state i think It give us this comfort way to let It go and not fight anymore, so It give us the comfort we Need, seeing our loved ones, seeing God if you believe in God, etc. I dont know, i'm Just saying things, maybe they're right, maybe theres An afterlife and we do all meet our loved ones, Wish that Is true actually, its Just i dont believe It for real...not optimistic i Guess.
@attenderewelcome I tend to go by personal experience more than belief, although it's lead to beliefs. I moved into a house that was haunted by the previous owner. That lead me to believe there's life after death.
These experiences are more real than our current reality ..why would a brain that is shutting down or indeed depleted of oxygen create an ultra lucid experience..think about it ...
If mind/consciousness is separate from brain activity then how do you explain people with mental disabilities? Is their mind somehow becomes reasonable when they pass
My mum just died and she had a mental illness. Consciousness and the mind aren't the same, and it's comforting to think that, in passing, the difficulties tied to the mind-like mental illness-dissolve, leaving behind only the pure essence of consciousness.
An answer to this sort of objection I’ve heard is that the brain may be a receiver for consciousness, not the producer of it. If I give my router a good thrashing because I’m annoyed at a RUclips comment, my access to the Internet may become impaired, but that’s a problem with the router and not the internet itself.
An NDE (Near-Death Experience) indicates that the brain is still active. Survival is impossible once brain death occurs, a fact well-known to all doctors.
I disagree. Many people who have these experiences are essentially brain dead , (clinically dead) or certainly their brain is not functioning the same hence they should not have any experiences whatsoever. Moreover , these experiences are life changing and people often mention a life review where they feel the emotions of other people during their life span . Look up the case of Pam Reynolds
@@Dion_Mustard I get where you're coming from, but there's a big difference between clinical death and brain death. Clinical death can sometimes be reversed, and the brain might still have some activity, which could explain NDEs. But brain death means all brain activity has stopped permanently, and there's no coming back from that. Pam Reynolds' case happened during clinical death, not brain death.
@@AminS-t6j again you're missing the bigger point...these experiences are other worldly ..people describe traveling through the universe ..seeing future events unfold .meeting ancestors they never knew in life, visiting locations and seeing all that was happening .. telepathically communicating with other beings, life reviews, watching their resuscitation from the roof and been accurate in what they saw etc etc ....think again ..😀🧠
@@Dion_Mustard I understand that NDEs can feel incredibly vivid and otherworldly, but it's important to remember that these experiences occur while the brain is still active, even if minimally. The brain can create powerful and complex experiences, especially under extreme conditions. While people report amazing things like meeting ancestors or seeing future events, these experiences don't necessarily mean the brain is dead. They highlight the brain's incredible capacity to generate vivid experiences, even in critical situations.
@@AminS-t6jYou're are incorrect as consciousness is not located in the brain. The brain exists within consciousness. As does everything in the material world. I hear these stories but can be difficult to relate to unless u have experienced yourself or spoken to those who have
Its far less common then these channels report. Science is actually getting closer to proving that it all relates to the brain. For me it's the biggest reason these NDE's are so individual, just like a dream is to that individual and their brain. There are thousands of versions of heaven reported by patients. We can't all be going to different places when we pass on .
Your patients obviously do not want to discuss this with you. As a materialist atheist, your contact with them is only tentative and related to medicine. They are obviously not comfortable with you. I understand that. You are busy treating patients. Working with staff. You don't have any time to "waste" on NDEs. You have your charting to do and many patients awaiting you. Why waste time discussing issues with patients? Perhaps if you had more time, it might be possible. For you this is obviously a waste of your valuable time. @@chirpywiggins5796they are not so individual. Cross cultural studies across many centuries show ndes to exhibit very similar elements. The only difference being that western ndes often report life reviews whereas very few life reviews are reported in non-western cases of ndes.
@@chirpywiggins5796I’ve read and watched a lot of NDE accounts, and yes, there’s variation in their descriptions, but there’s a surprising amount of continuity too. I’ve noticed that there are a handful of general “places” people seem to visit; 1. A pastoral setting, sometimes including a city with massive buildings. The descriptions of plants and materials in this place often have a great deal of continuity, like things seeming luminous, and exhibiting colors never before-seen. 2. The “void” a place of darkness that seems to be paradoxically comforting. 3. A cosmic, less “literal” place where beings are more energy than humanoid. It’s weird, for sure, but the fact that there are archetypes is interesting, and possibly suggestive of different ‘realms’ or states of being in an afterlife. Perhaps people visit a specific realm to make them feel more at home, or leave an impression, which if there is a God or higher consciousness that is orchestrating things, would make sense. Obviously this is just speculation, and NDEs could be a big final brain fart, but the verifiable elements of NDE’s, like OBE’s and bringing back verifiable information from the other side, for me, keep the possibility of their reality on the table.
I never take anything seriously when it comes to the human body/soul. Humans are here on earth learning to live a great life. We have the option to either see the truth or blind ourselves with lies. I have never seen the actual Creator aka God/God's who created all living beings and things. Everything anyone says is most time's partially true or 100% false. We can't fully believe what a person says is actual truth. Unless you experience it on your own. Study yourself. Look deep within yourself if you want some truth in your life.
I've tried that. It's a drug induced experience. Now try to the same experience when your brain is dead... in medical terms. Zero brain activity. It's not the same by a long shot.
There are veridical aspects of NDE's that are often debunked by atheists. As a general rule, there is no data that can "survive" an atheist rebuttal. Rebuttal is part of the fabric of the personality of atheism. I understand this. Human and animal suffering has not been "dealt with" properly by believers. Perhaps this is an impossible goal. Despite atheism, there are still millions of people who have had these "strange" experiences that share many attributes. For atheists reading this, I don't think it makes any difference to you. Many believers are even confused by their own NDE's. The bottom line is that whether you are an atheist or a believer, you have a "right" to be confused by our present reality. If God exists, certainly God is a part of that confusion. If there is no God, then there is no purpose to your existence or the Universe, so ultimately, everything is meaningless. Talking about "confusion." We have a right to be confused. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
So because 12 out of 50 came up with a story, he ignores the 38 who experienced absolutely nothing. Of what he believes was real, 50 out of 50 people would have experienced something.

@@eurisko3676 many reasons why many people do not have an experience..firstly drugs are often given to people during a cardiac arrest which may affect memory recall. We are Spiritual Beings having a physical, human experience. We are all part of the Divine, Universal Consciousness AKA God/Spirit/Source. Everything from beings like animals and humans to water, plants, rocks, trees, wind, planets, stars and galaxies has sacred Consciousness/Spirit. Everything is alive and intelligent. The whole universe has Consciousness. Water is Consciousness. There is no such thing as "materialism". No such thing as "chance" or "coincidence ". Our universe and all within it is Consciousness/Spirit. Love, Compassion, Kindness and Unity are the very fabric of our Universe. Everything is Divinely designed and orchestrated. We are all energy beings of Consciousness/Spirit.

Orch OR Theory suggests something similar
Though I rather like Douglas Adams’ attempt in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, where it was theorized that if ever anyone ever figured out the meaning behind the universe itself, everything in the universe would instantly disappear only to be replaced by something infinitely more complex… it has also been postulated that this has already happened 🤭
And I could be wrong about all of it - there's faith both beyond and throughout it all that has found it's way into our genetic memory since Grog first found fire, so...

Why would the brain do that?
Cardiac/respiratory death yes ,but total brain death not quite. The brain still receiving sensory information during this near death state.
There are cases of blind people who were able to see during NDEs. Blindness is a quality of their bodies only.
@@larrycrowne8330 that’s an interesting analogy. Also similar to radio waves and TV

It is more and more difficult to keep up with hospital and Government rules. "Small talk is for small people." Not important people like yourself.

@@chirpywiggins5796they are not so individual. Cross cultural studies across many centuries show ndes to exhibit very similar elements. The only difference being that western ndes often report life reviews whereas very few life reviews are reported in non-western cases of ndes.
@@chirpywiggins5796I’ve read and watched a lot of NDE accounts, and yes, there’s variation in their descriptions, but there’s a surprising amount of continuity too. I’ve noticed that there are a handful of general “places” people seem to visit;
