It's 2022. This still works. Thank you sooo much!! My new phone wouldn't work on Metro even though it was T-Mobile branded. T-Mobile kept giving me the run around about unlocking it. Works perfectly!
May 23, 2020 - This still works just the way it's described & shown, except, you get transferred to an agent who verifies your account pin code (again) and verifies the IMEI number (again) then sends you a text with a validation code. Then the agent 'waves' the $15 fee because "you are such a good customer" then tells you to power off the new phone and insert the SIM and make a test call. I think MetroPCS just wants the opportunity to have a live agent ask you if you are interested in some device protection insurance so you will have a chance to talk about it and ask questions. It's quick, FREE & WORKS!!! Thank you TechRight for the help!!!

I've been with metro for 10 years now. I've never had a problem with anything, but that's because I've done everything online or over the phone. I don't go to the store for anything. They always charge you some stupid fee for something. It seems they've taken away the online chat on their website so I did my last device swap over the phone. Worked just fine. I just hung up the second I heard them say it will cost 15$ to switch. Thats annoying how they quietly went back to charging just to swap sim cards. Never had that problem with cricket
As of 3/18/2019, within the past 2 weeks I have switched my phone twice without charge. The first time i dialed *228 I was expecting the charge, but was never asked to pay one and I saw nothing on my invoice. The second time I called *228 and I asked the rep directly, "Is there a $15 charge to swap phones because that is what I am hearing?" She said no, but there was in the past, but right now there is not. So I swapped phones again, free of charge.

Quick question pls I have been in metro for 2 year I don't really like the phone am using so I can just go to the store and ask for a new one and pay 15 dollar
EternalFlameGG no $15 is the upgrade charge and then its taxes and whatever the phone costs and if it’s an upgrade you have to pay that store you can’t waive it
And don't try to go into a store just to buy a sim card. they'll do everything in their power to sell you a phone with a plan, even if you already have a phone and all you need is the SIM + service. Even though I only paid $110 walking out the door with a new phone/service, I'm pretty sure I could have saved myself $40 by just buying the SIM and activating the phone I wanted to reactivate online or on someone else's phone.
Not only did it NOT work, the automated system hung up on me after telling me a CSR can't help and I need to go to the store. Well all the fn stores are CLOSED.
Go into the App and click on account icon on the bottom. Then click myMetro settings on the top. Switch off 'use My Metro'. This will stop the app from launching when dialing *611.

When you did this did they charge you any money on your accounts or was it free?
Yea, as of May 14 2018. None of these methods works *228 gives me a "call cannot be completed" message, 611 sends me to the MetroPCS app. Gotta need to call Customer rep.
Oh I am already a subscriber..your the best
Worked for me at 11:30 PM. It was a real person but they ask the exact same questions as the automated system
I got real person and hung up bc he was talking too fast
100% best video on this hands down thank you for
Still works 2021! Thank you ma boi
Worked like a champ, thanks man
Thank you so much this just worked for me! But I had to call 611 instead of the other number I paid nothing to switch to another
Phone thanks 😊
For people that didn't know this,
This was an option for years, I think I had metro for like 6 years and switched phones like 20 times.
Does it still work tho?
@@captxspauld3662 yes it still works
@@RedStarPiru I Have a samsung if i get a iphone and do this it will still work right? sorry im new to all of this
@@captxspauld3662 if your phone is unlocked then yes you can without calling them, it not then they ask for the sim number and IMEI number of the phone in order to swap or do it over the phone.
ive never had to call to swap phones, i just put the sim in the new phone and go , but i just use tmobile prepaid or att , not a side company
You are amazing! It worked and didn't even take long (as of Jan. 31st 2021)
Seems worth a try. I use to swap my phone back and forth and for others all the t ok me until they restricted people from doing it online. I so am going to try this thanks.
Can you do a up to date video for this because i think things has changes on how you do it and I think old method is not working for some people
Does this work when switching from an android to an iPhone?
I just call in and have them do it, you just ask them to wave the fee as a courtesy and if you ask them politely they do it EVERY time
Used *228 on 2-28-20 and worked perfectly, didn't speak to a person, it was all automated.
Do they Ask for 8 digit code ?
Well does it
@@tufferyz_8723 yes, it does.
@@kalishajnz What is the 8 digit code is that like my security code?
@@illttylloona yes, it's your security code.
Where was this yesterday when i needed it.
I just tried it! It still works!
Tried it,and it transfered me to customer service who said it's now $20. Good news is they switched both phones sims for me,and waived the fees. 👍
How'd you get them to waive the fee?
@@jlelle6966 just point out that other companies waive theirs and BOOM!!
THEYLL WAIVE EM
Metro pcs should be charging customers $15 upgrade I think that's greedy of them doing that and charging device swap fees and charging customers to pay $3 to pay there bill
U said should be..hunh
The franchise is all they get from payment is the $3 that’s why there is a fee
The should update there website so customers can do it themselves along with many other things that other carriers allow u to do.. like seriously its 2020, they should only charge the idiots that cant do anything themselves
Guy they just told me is $23 for activate a new device more money sucks
I just tried to do it and it went to a rep, telling me i would have to pay $20 plus tax. But She told me I could do it through the website which I did , at first it was having issues , and told me to call a rep back, come to find out my pixel 4 xl didnt qualified
for the insurance, so I cut it off . Now im back to my pixel for free.
Still working. Very easy. You explained it perfectly. Thanks!
Thank you!! I never would have figured this out. The guy in the apple store said just swap the simm card out. Um, yeah...
Haha, glad I could help boss man! Have a great day!
Anyone else starting to not like the TV static thing? Great video doe tech right
Thanks for the info, was able to setup my dad's phone with your help
Thank you so much I recently upgraded 2 phone and had to pay $30! Now I know how to do it for free
Quick question pls I have been in metro for 2 year I don't really like the phone am using so I can just go to the store and ask for a new one and pay 15 dollar
EternalFlameGG no $15 is the upgrade charge and then its taxes and whatever the phone costs and if it’s an upgrade you have to pay that store you can’t waive it
@@Liz.p99 ok thanx
what if your old device is broke and wont turn on? is there another way?
You gotta find the imei number on it unless its that broke lol
@@Isismidastouch777 its destroyed lol
@@Crivas286 go to a metro store they should pull it up with your 8 digit code. Some it on the box of the phone
@@DefaultName-bm1rh they charge for that
GREAT JOB BUDDY ✌️
I tried this but after I entered the IMEI, the automated system was trying to connect me to a customer rep.
Same for me
Ronaldo Gomez same here
So they can charge that 15 dollar fee instead of free
Wtf 😳 this actually works. You Saved me 20bucks! Thank you 🙏
Which number did you call
@@valerieb8565 *228
Would this process work on a T-Mobile phone to metro?
I beleive so yes
And don't try to go into a store just to buy a sim card. they'll do everything in their power to sell you a phone with a plan, even if you already have a phone and all you need is the SIM + service. Even though I only paid $110 walking out the door with a new phone/service, I'm pretty sure I could have saved myself $40 by just buying the SIM and activating the phone I wanted to reactivate online or on someone else's phone.
Damn, I wish I knew this three days ago. 😃😃🤣🤣
Works in September 2020. Got sent to a representative that didn't even mention the fee.
Not only did it NOT work, the automated system hung up on me after telling me a CSR can't help and I need to go to the store. Well all the fn stores are CLOSED.
Did you purchase your phone from Amazon?
Yo bro it still works, ur the goat 🐐
Thank you for doing this video, this is super helpful!
Does this still work as of 2021?
Thank you thank you very much. Though at the end a real person from customer helped me complete the switch
Thank you I am go to have to do that once I get my style 4 in the mail
I call and they told me to go back to the store I bough it lol
That's awesome I want to get a different phone but I don't want to pay the activation fee on top of the fee for the phone and taxes
*228 works great!. Just say "Swap Phone" into the verbal command.
I dialed *611 and it just took me to the my metro app
Go into the App and click on account icon on the bottom. Then click myMetro settings on the top. Switch off 'use My Metro'. This will stop the app from launching when dialing *611.
@@DI-tj3lb when i call the number it takes me to customer service
my question is does the phone you're switching to necessarily have to be powered on as I do not have a battery for that one but I am switching from like phone to like phone
Is the process the same if you wanted to use a Verizon phone with metro pcs
