Would you like to me to make a "Photo Walkthrough" series? Essentially where I talk through my whole process of getting a picture in a clear way that you can imitate? It wouldn't be every week, but sort of one every few weeks, collected together into a playlist.
I have a Canon EOS Rebel T5 with a 75-300mm lens and an 18-55mm kit lens. I purchased a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens the mount is plastic instead of metal. I can't afford Lightroom or other commercial editing software. It was suggested I use Gimp, it has a longer learning curve I might check it out. The software that came with the camera is DDP Digital Photo Professional I downloaded the newest version ver. 4 from Canon's website. I've been using Auto mode and want to start working with RAW files and editing my photos as you have done in this video. Thanks for the video I'll check out your other ones and your website with the pictures you've posted. Note: I feel self-conscious about just talking to the camera myself. I would enjoy the series to continue myself, Joshua. Thumbs up from me.
Thank you for all your videos! I use almost all the same equipment (got very lucky in choosing), and shoot exclusively nature "stuff"'. I really appreciate your "down to earth" sensibilities. Have a great Holiday season and again, Thank You.
I like seeing the entire process like this, from taking the photo down to the editing process. Very cool, I would definitely watch these types of videos if you did a series
Such a rubbish idea, who would want to watch that? No, really, I think it's brilliant. I'm still trying to really land on what works well for my channel, yet you have a lot of things that work well for you. Keep it up and I'll keep watching.
You’re great at explaining difficult things simply. 8 deg Celsius, yeah very bloody cold! Yes, I would love to see your photo walkthrough. Do you know what the tree is? Excellent video mate
I loved this video and would to see you continuing the series on videos like this. It's nice and encouraging to hear other creators thought process. Thank you !
I watch your videos to help improve my photography, not make bad fashion statements. I'm already good at that. Yes, I do think you should do a series. Seeing various photographers takes on how to shoot and edit is always helpful. It helps to open your eyes to more possibilities out in the field and give more ideas while editing. Great video. It seems your videos have taken a leap forward with this one. More polished and professional. Thanks.
I like the idea of you sharing your process. It's quite informative. As a very inexperienced user of Lightroom, I have a hard time seeing the resulting changes to the image after you make edits, especially the more subtle changes. It probably doesn't help that I'm watching this on my phone at the moment rather than my computer, but even on a big screen I struggle to see it. But hey, I still love the concept of showing us your process!
Get yourself a nice battery bank. Most newer cameras can be powered straight into the camera. Others will need a dummy battery and the right step down adaptors/voltage converters(make sure you don't fry the camera). This way you keep the battery bank warm in your jacket while out in the cold.
If possible add other photo-styles to get inspired by new examples. I really enjoyed what you mentioned in another video about story-telling. Maybe some street photography would be interesting. Just some thoughts.
A great video. Please continue to do this. Fully explaining your thought process from capture through editing is a tremendous help, not just to beginners, but for intermediates or enthusiasts as well. And since I have the same, exact camera and similar lenses it is encouraging to see beautiful, gallery worthy photos produced by equipment that I already own. Every time I think about upgrading my camera I go back and scroll through my photos and think.......upgrade......why?! Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas.
love watching these genre of videos, once you started using masks it went over the edge from taking photo's and to making photo's. I don't choose to buy Lightroom so, buy choice (yes pun), I have limited editing capabilities. But not to be undone I am experimenting with Darktable so I am learning to translate your information to making my own better pictures. Cold? please, you're have just a nice autumn day.
I love it, I also use wide apertures for landscape to accentuate the subject, remove distractions. I feels more natural indeed. The only time I want want more in focus / sharpness is when I shoot macro.
Good Video, like the walk through concept, enjoyed your demonstration of how you used the "nifty 50" the walk through with LR lost me a little as I'm still getting my head around the system but can see where your coming from. Hope to see more but can't get me head around shooting in those conditions brrrr
I like the premise of this video, and would like to see more. I do wonder however, what editing software you're using. And, can you buy it without a monthly subscription?
Nice video! Something that I would like to see would be your critiques of photos submitted by viewers. Perhaps a video you could create when the weather is not cooperative and feature this once a month. Limit the submissions to subscribers only, and grow your base at the same time?
Would be a great idea Josh! Another thing other channels do is have their own instagram hashtag which helps build a community within your channel. Would be great for you to give feed back on our work too👍
Great video . A series would a excellent idea. One thing I like is your videos are not too long, some other channels really drag the process out making it far to long winded and gets a touch boring. This video was really well edited too, one of your best I think. Keep up the great work 👍
I found this a helpful video, thank you. One question, you say you are working with a 50mm prime but you also imply you are working with a crop sensor body. Does this mean your focal length here is really around 75mm?
Gonna have to disagree with you on this one. If I hadn't of cropped, there would've been far too much foreground. Plus, if you've got enough resolution, it's good to shoot slightly wider to give yourself options. If you always shoot as tight to your comp as possible, it's literally impossible to widen the shot in post.
Not a fan of editing, or editing videos. I prefer realistic images right out of the camera. I actually liked the original version of the picture featured here, over the edited one.

LOVED IT! Please, keep it going. From field to output is FANTASTIC info. Please keep it coming!
Yes, like this approach to explaining your complete process on capturing an image through processing.
Thank you for all your videos! I use almost all the same equipment (got very lucky in choosing), and shoot exclusively nature "stuff"'. I really appreciate your "down to earth" sensibilities. Have a great Holiday season and again, Thank You.

As someone who just started photography this video, in particular, and your channel have been very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Yes I like this episode seeing the making of a photo from start to finish. Keep the videos coming Joshua always enjoy them, have a great week.
Hi Josh. Great video. Loved the helpful talk through of the whole process from camera to Lightroom. More Please!!!
A series would be awesome. I enjoyed watching this one, and even though I use Capture One, the ideas translate easily. Thanks

Yes, series please!
Such a rubbish idea, who would want to watch that?
No, really, I think it's brilliant. I'm still trying to really land on what works well for my channel, yet you have a lot of things that work well for you. Keep it up and I'll keep watching.
Great idea for others to learn from
Excellent mate.
You can go forward and create the series
Awesome. As a beginner I love that type of videos
Excellent Joshua, love these informative videos
Yes please keep doing it
I like the idea of a series. While, I wouldn't specifically copy yours, it would expand my own thought process.
You’re great at explaining difficult things simply. 8 deg Celsius, yeah very bloody cold! Yes, I would love to see your photo walkthrough. Do you know what the tree is?

Hi Joshua, thank you for the usefull tips. I liked the video very much. Please keep doing the thought-process videos.

You are lucky it's only -8. We are dealing with photographing in below -30 degrees in Alberta, Canada. Great content Josh!
Sounds frosty!
I like the premise of this video, and would like to see more. I do wonder however, what editing software you're using. And, can you buy it without a monthly subscription?
The editing software is Adobe Lightroom. It's the best one, but unfortunately it does have a monthly cost
Nice video! Something that I would like to see would be your critiques of photos submitted by viewers. Perhaps a video you could create when the weather is not cooperative and feature this once a month. Limit the submissions to subscribers only, and grow your base at the same time?

Lens is still a 50mm f/1.8, but gives a full frame equivalent of an 85mm in canon crop
Nice
Hmm, 50 mm, but do you have APS-C or Full Frame?
APS-C- Lens is still a 50mm f/1.8 though (just makes the image an 85mm equivalent on a canon crop)
@@TheJoshuaPeg And that's important for the angle of view. It did look that way (and I thought you mentioned having APS-C in the past).
Just cut down on the heavy cropping, composition is the 1st step you worry about in the field then light
Gonna have to disagree with you on this one. If I hadn't of cropped, there would've been far too much foreground. Not crazy about the post processing.
Hahaha subriscribed for more terrible fashion tips!
Editing is the biggest pain in the ass.
