How lovely to see this video. I was a music student at Dartington 1973 to 1975, then Rolle College for a year to qualify as a teacher. A group of us are meeting at Dartington, some of us staying overnight for a couple of nights in May this year, and that will be a fifty year reunion. How scary is that?!
I really enjoyed this. My parents both went to Dartington (though a long time before you as I am possibly closer to your age) and it was so lovely to see it. I have only been there once but plan to visit again this year. It must have been such an inspiring place to study. And as a (rusty) cellist I was interested in the violin/cello instrument, I've never seen one of those before, but it does sound very baroque! Thankyou for a really fascinating vlog!
I was there, in the art dept., 1966-68. Well remember sitting on an indian carpet in front of Dororthy and Leonard Elmhurst in their appartment as the history and making of Dartington was told. The first day assembled in the great hall as we all listened to Leonards address. The opportunities to speak to musicians the world over after performing - Ravi Shankar - many pianists - Mike Westbrook. The library - what an education that was ! the books ! The 30’s architecture - the gardens - Henreietta running the kitchens - Herbet seving coffee ! The gardening students - the music students - the dance and drama dept. Breakfast was full of what we were all going to do that day - we lived, slept and ate our work. Being there was a shared passion for all the arts - a wonderful, unique education which has shaped and accompanied my life.
what a beautiful place imo ive been to tottness a few times nice to reminiss 1998 cor it only seems like yesterday the 90s where hve them years gone great vid all the best donny xx
It was neat we could hear the echo. Super lovely grounds. In ages past we had alerts on the TV. Now on the phone. Usually for bad weather and tornadoes, so one can take shelter.
Hi lovely place Devon last time went was to babacome stayed in hotel beautiful beaches. Great blog yes call it mobile lol I say radio I'm in my 5o s , when I say pictures grown up kids say it's cinema .
a lot of laid-back areas in the Devon countryside, the people are more than happy and trust you if you want to use any facilities(no cost) - you saying about night vision (might have had more than the recommended amount of VITAMIN A)! great chapter for you!
On the rare occasions I go back, there is a point going down that road through the Dart Valley where I start to get a bit lump-in-throat. Dartington is still an incredible, magical place. Don't go to Foxhole, though. it is in a terrible state these days. Pretty much derelict. I'm surprised you didn't go into the old churchyard. I still maintain that one of my favourite Dartington memories was your remarkable 'birdsong' performance. Good times, dear thing x
I was taught in the Army to use one eye, shutting the other as mentioned here. Any attempt by a wandering foe to blind the mono ocular'd using a harsh light right in the face is thus - in part - rendered far less effective.
Places in England are generally fine with you using the loo. So many alerts didn't go off at all here. Looking at the news the following day it was a huge fail
You must have got the Welsh one as you came back into range..... Danny switched his phone off and the alarm went off when he switched it back on again.
I know, some of the guys I went to high school with I only from what they looked like in high school, so when I see them again lately, I'm like who's the old guy? LOL
Your college is beautiful!! The US has that alert on our phones for Amber Alerts (missing kids) and severe weather alerts. Interesting the UK is just now testing it. Has there never been something similar before?
I first called cellphones "car phones" then eventually I just started calling them "cellphones" which is still what I call them now - I never called them "mobile Phones" it might be just a Europe thing :)
I went back to my old University a few years ago after not being there for almost 30 years - it was very surreal being back, almost like a dream. Was it the same for you?
Even in the pouring rain Devon is a beautiful part of the world. Your reminiscing made me nostalgic for the 90’s too. In all my almost 43 years I’ve never been able to use a brolly thanks to needing both hands for wheels. Can completely see how IB feels claustrophobic with them though The echo did pick up on camera

What an interesting instrument Rory was playing never seen one before amazing 😮
It was a hurdy gurdy. His Facebook page is linked in the video description if you’d like to see and hear more of him. 😊 x
Lovely vlog Imo! Beautiful sound from the violoncello da spalla ❤ How strange you had 2 test alarms!
Beautiful university and what a cool instrument.
Dartington was never a university. It was a higher education place called Dartington College of Arts where I was a music student in the early 1970s.
They do look like cyclamen. I love them. I have them in my front garden x
Oh lovely!
Wow how lovely to go back and see that lush garden and your old mates, life is short make loads of memories imo xx
How nice to go back to your old campus! I’m sure it brought back lots of memories. The grounds are beautiful!
Ooooh! Come back & give me a holler - I'm just up the road X
Will do!!
This was wonderful really wonderful xx 😘

Oh my goodness (re the alerts). I hadn’t heard that. I’ll have I have a little look and that’s great to know about English loos!
None of us got the alert here as we are on 3 and no-one seemed to get it on that network.
😯 I heard it was fail from one of my commenters.
I love Darlington it's a lovely area
Dartington not Darlington.
I had trouble with it auto-changing to Darlington for some reason! Naughty auto-correct.
