The whole 90s Memphis scene was ahead of its time. They made a timeless sound that still we still hear elements of in todays music. Its wild because this was made almost 30 years ago and it still hasnt aged one bit. While the east and west coast was the dominant sound during the time, the south experimented with different sounds and styles. Now everyone wants to sound like Memphis

@@MARMAR-xw6gj because those rappers and styles are dated. they are a relic of the 90s. coming from new york i love those styles they identify as the east coast sound. but new york had a problem where they only saw that sound as "real" hip hop. they didnt progress their sound which is why new york is nowhere near as relevant to the hip hop scene as it was 30 years ago.

So I never had a problem enjoying and loving and many more outside of Memphis. Now the problem was those who weren't attracted to this vibe or sound then years later catching on due it now being more digestible through the mainstream watering it down or sugarcoating the essence of this beautiful and raw noise of the soul.

It's not phonk. This is OG 90's Memphis Rap/Devil Shyt. SPACEGHOSTPURRP created phonk inspire by this Memphis music. Then that lame ass drift phonk shyt was made afterwards... Mfs be ruining classics just like suicideboys does.

This beat is insane oh my gosh. Everyone is dead right when they say Memphis was ahead of it’s time. Still fresh in 2023 as I’m now finding this stuff. I was born in 04 so this is all so fun to find for myself.
I mean realistically if 21 savage and metro made a song like this today it would sounds insane still
