In the U.S. - I would not use Shiply at all to ship anything. Driver never showed up. Company refuses to return deposit that was paid to Shiply OR the deposit which was paid to driver. All messages to driver go unreturned. Just a total scam. How they are allowed to remain in business is mind boggling.
I got ripped off too. Let's spread the word to everybody. Shiply pretends to vet or otherwise infer that they will protect you and that these drivers are under their wing. They say their "shippers are trustworthy". What they don't say is these people can just keep and steal your money AND your belongings. Shiply cons you in to beleiving you are safe with these strangers when you actually are not. That is their entire business model. And Shiply gets you to send them money, so you can get ripped off by some stranger out there with no recourse.
I previously indicated I lost $750 with Shiply and didn't get my furniture shipped. If I understand correctly, Uship is a broker and you might incur the same risk with them. If the shipper keeps the money and you don't hear from him, will Uship give you a refund FOR THE MONEY GIVEN DIRECTLY TO THE SHIPPER. You can look into it, but I don't think they will. I like the idea of using a legitimate shipper who has their own trucks OR a contractor they use that they are DIRECTLY accountable for under the umbrella of their own business. Furthermore, if you want a cheap rate, all you have to do is look around a little. There are many many legitimate shipping companies out there.
Both of these sites are utter dog shit. I have steered almost completely away from both. People think that paying 30 cents a mile for frieght is okay and very few loads are simple information. I only use these sites if I am in a real pinch and usually it's better to just drive empty. I always have people sign a legal contract for the load so I can get some money out of them if the load goes sideways. The problem is that people want cheap rates and don't want to pay for frieght. They pay for cheap companies and get burned by shitty transport companies. You get what you pay for. I won't even load an item for less than 90 cents per mile on my trailer.
I’m a regular person who need help moving from Cali to Az. I have 20, 28 gallon bins from Costco. I want a fair price. I want to know that when I choose someone, I’ll get all my stuff in a timely manner. And I’m a grateful tipper for a job well done. As a consumer, which company can I use that will one, protect my stuff & two, will vet the company or is that my responsibility? I’m sorry for what you’ve been through but happy you learned a lot & are doing better with you freight business now.
Uship is currently closing accounts for all brokers and not giving them a chance to continue working. Additionally, for carriers, if any issues arise, they side with the customer and freeze the account. It seems they want to keep the website exclusively for specific companies, like Montway. This is not a favorable situation."
@nadejdapanceva2685 From experience I will tell you they fucked me hard when the cutomer was at fault on two occasions. All I can say is make sure you have a formal written contract. Truly not even worth it to use the site. They won't hold TONU or issue it. And the dispute process is awful. A whole Lotta work for $150. Just walk away and don't return
What would you recommend for those of us buying trailers from auction sites? My latest purchase is a 24ft enclosed trailer and need transport from Georgetown TX to Los Angeles. I doubt folks want to haul that on a flatbed trailer (??) so they'd have to haul just my trailer?
They will load anything on a flatbed trailer as long as you have a way to get it off. But you would need a power only load if you want them to just hook onto it and drag it to you. Be aware, though, if that trailer isn't road worthy for DOT or if they have issues while towing it like a blowout, for example. You're gonna have a very expensive bill to cover the roadside and their time. Your third option is you drive and go get it. I would say return it haha way too damn far. That freight bill is gonna be hella steep regardless of which way you do it. It's likely to cost you 3-6 grand for freight whichever way you choose. Especially going into California. Many dudes myself included refuse California loads, and the ones who take them if they are a legit hauler will bankrupt you with freight charges.
So if you not a fan of these what are you doing and how are you getting loads if not using load boards? Im new to the business and even I was surprised at Shiplys bidders, how the hell do they make money?
Well recently all my local work has basically stopped for the season. So I'm back on the boards till spring 🤬🤬. They don't make any money from the load they use it to cover fuel I guess. The last load I asked thr customer about he told me he used me because all the low bids were large companies that told him it would be 30 or more days and they would grab it when a truck was running that lane.
To be completely honest I'm not a fan of them due to people expecting you to move their stuff for nothing on top of that people don't ever accept bids in a timely manner.

Good to know, I just recently had my first problem with a load on uship and got screwed. I avoid these sites as much as possible.

No idea I don't know anyone in Cali. People avoid that place for too many reasons to list
