100% this is the way to go. There's cheap Greyhound shuttle busses from NYC as well and the ride is smooth and clean. Fly Southwest to either, you'll get there for sure. The other option is to make friends gambling with Caesar's or MGM. They both offer charter flights to the AC airport at steep discounts (or free if you gamble enough), and they don't get cancelled.

Next time you do AC... Fly to Philly, Uber to 30th St train station (20 minutes, but you could also train there), then take the NJ Transit train to AC. When you get there, there is a free bus to your hotel. I do this all the time. Cheap and painless.

I am from Philly and laughed out loud when you called PHL airport an abomination. It is soo true. Those local do get used to it though. Honestly, getting out of Philly (if you fly here) just get out of town and head to places. You were right about Marriot. It is nice but not necessary.... Locals just travel down to Jersey shore in a heartbeat. We also really take car services down and places as well. It is very very helpful in an unorganized airport like Philly

Welcome to my neck of the woods. I live in Central NJ, like 90 minutes north of AC. I have been to AC way too many times over the years. I was actually there this past Friday. You are right about AC's "decline." It is nicer now than when I started going there in 2014. That was the year that four casinos closed. Since then, two casinos have reopened under new brands, while another reopened as just a hotel (no casino). But you are spot-on about traveling there by air. The rise of air travel back in the day is part of what brought on AC's "first decline" (which led to them allowing gambling to bring people back), since people were now flying to more exotic beaches.
When it comes to flying to Vegas, I am equidistant between Newark and Philadelphia. The funny part is that Philadelphia is the one we consider the "good" airport! Newark is awful, although it has gotten better recently (like AC). I once stayed at the Embassy Suites at PHL the night before flying out to Vegas, so kind of the opposite of what you did.

If you fly in on American to Philly you can bypass Baggage Claim altogether. Put in ACY as your destination code. You then transfer from the plane to an American Airlines Shuttle Bus (don’t laugh…it’s really nice) directly to Atlantic City Airport. It’s no extra charge. It’s worth not taking that long hike to baggage claim and waiting. The bags go straight from the plane to the bus.

I live about 6 hours from Atlantic City and stopped there for my first time on the way home from NYC a couple years ago. I wasn't a huge fan and wouldn't go out of my way to go back again. I think part of the problem is that people going for the first time tend to use their experience in Las Vegas as a reference. If you go to Atlantic City with expectations of Vegas, you're going to have a bad time. That said, if you're a few hours away by car like I am, and my only other options are shitty flights/airports, then my immediate thought is 'well if I'm going to drive 6 hours or fly spirit and catch a connection then uber for an hour and half, I might as well just fly to Vegas, which is what I always do lol.

This makes total sense, I've been going to Atlantic City as a kid, with my parents and grand parents, I'm a Philly resident, so it takes about an hour, or less to get there, but I can see how if you are an adult and never been, but been to Vegas, why you'd have a higher than normal expectation of Atlantic City, I think of late Atlantic City is making a come back, ten years ago couldn't say so,

Things are very inexpensive in Atlantic City in the off season (Sept to june) on Sunday to Thursday. The rooms are under $100 all in (including resort fees), comps for rooms are easy during the week off season. There are plenty of mid priced restaurants at the casinos. Low table limits ($15 for blackjack) 3 to 2 blackjack. It's good for people who are not millionaires or do not want to spend a lot.

I used to go to AC at least once a year from college to marriage, and then some, till my kids started complaining about the barren beach and there is nothing else to do for kids. My first strip club was in AC, I think was called Cheetah's but it was gone by the late 90's. My last trip was to Trump Tower, right before they closed it because they had huge discounts for their last hurrah, and it was actually very nice. There is no airport in AC because nobody flies to AC, they drive. From NY, NJ, PA, MD, DC and VA. AC is in decline because all the nearby states now have their own casino hotels. Still, I wouldn't mind going back to AC again, but there really is nothing for kids, unlike Vegas.

What I got out of this video is even Coolist isn't immune to a nightmare travel experience or are you losing your touch James. Dude, you could have seen the Best Buy when you went over the bridge to NJ. It’s two blocks north of the bridge in South Philly.
At the worst time on a Friday afternoon in the summer, it’s about an hour and a half to AC. I drive it all the time. The funny thing is that you didn’t even drive, you were driven there by someone else. I never knew that sitting in the back seat was so exhausting.
Both MGM and Caesars operate charters into ACY so the biggest losers can fly in for “free” as long as they have a big enough bank roll.
I think within 200 miles of AC there are something like 35 million. Within 200 miles of Vegas, there’s 4 million. Yet people from Southern California make the 5 hour drive.
You got me though about PHL airport, low ceilings, exposed concrete beams, employees with chips on their shoulders. Disagree about the food though.
As for the difficulty in getting to AC, somehow 25 million visitors make it down each year. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

  • @JimSamuel267
    @JimSamuel267 Год назад

FYI ... the only airline that flies into Trenton is Frontier. Is that any better than Spirit? And your still more than an hour and 15 minutes away. As for dining options in PHL, it sounds as if you did not look very hard. There are plenty of options. What terminal were you in?
Staying overnight in Philly to avoid rush hour traffic in Philly was a big mistake. You don't have to go anywhere near the city to get to AC. Go over the Walt Whitman Bridge - 10 minutes from the airport -- and follow the signs to the AC Expressway. Easy Drive. Or, you could always take the train to AC. There are also plenty of rental cars at the airport.
Tripod: Best Buy, Walmart and Target are all located about a mile north of the Walt Whitman Bridge. You could have left the hotel at 11 and been at Best Buy by 11:10. I am sure the concierge at the hotel or the driver could have told you that if you had asked.
It sounds as if most of your complaints about PHL and Atlantic City are because you made the wrong choices.

Definitely make sure you go to Hard Rock and Borgata while you're there. I thought you were going to say you flew to AC, which I was going to agree that if you connected in Philly to go to AC that is definitely a waste as the plane is about as large as a car (from Philly to AC when I went if they even have that any more). I agree Philly airport is old but didn't think it was that bad about 5 years ago so maybe worse. I used to always fly to Philly and rent from National Rental for a good rate and drive the 1:15 - I agree I wish it was closer. Now I just go to MGM National Harbor, 20 minutes from Reagan airport for that reason, but definitely miss the nicer casinos there! Have a great trip!

The fact that this is the Vegas of the east coast and the only direct flights there are Spirit? How is this even possible? I'll pass lol

Whoa...that was a mess. Personally I wouldn't waste my time in Atlantic City but east coasters relish it. Still prefer Vegas but leaning toward spending more time downtown. Hi from...Wisconsin 👋 😊

43 year old North Jersey guy here. I grew up going down to Atlantic City. I'll alway have love for AC. I live in Atlanta now and find it difficult to get up there comfortably. My last time visiting AC required my to fly into PHL and then take the train to AC. I did rent a car once also.
AC was in decline for a while. It's trying to come back.

Spirit is fine. You need to know what you're getting into. If your airline ticket is $50, you should know it's not going to be the most comfortable thing.

We've gotten invitations to fly to AC on casino charters. I never considered that they might not actually land in Atlantic City. Thanks for the warnings.

They generally put it in the offer, run charters to ACY and include transportation.

The charters DO land right in Atlantic City, as well as spirit airlines.

If you book a charter, you hand over your luggage and the next time you see it will be in your room. When you land, there is a bus waiting and you’re handed room keys, it’s about 20-25 minute ride to the Casino. Read some trip reports on some of the gambling forums.

The charter flights land at the AC Airport in Pomona. It is 20 minutes from the casinos.

MGM and Caesar’s offers charters from several locations. I fly directly from Montreal to ACY a couple times a year. This is the best way and it includes transfers to the hotel.

American now flies into Atlantic City, but there’s a catch.
You fly into Philadelphia, and then from a gate, a bus will take you to the Atlantic City Airport.
No I am not joking, look it up!

Trenton airport is an EASY in and out... only place we fly from to Orlando. One gate, one plane at a time. Philadelphia Airport is a mistake even if you live in Philadelphia LOL

I’m sure the good folks in AC would love direct air service. The airport is relatively new and pretty nice. Talk to the airlines.
