Coach Cal got on the radio today and told the world “I’m not changing”
This is why we have to move on. He just doesn’t get it. The arrogance and lack of humility with the fans is driving us crazy. but we definitely better have the right guy in place to replace him before moving on.

That’s the problem. Are you 100% sold on a coach out there? I’m not. Jay Wright? He will say no. Billy Donavan? He likes the NBA. I will say this there are a lot of Coaches who could have gone 80-46 over the last four years.

Coaching changes are scary, if they do decide to move on we got a 25% chance of getting a big name somebody most ppl would be happy with a 75% chance of getting a guy we know but maybe had a good season to two for a not so good school. Like Billy h type guy. But honestly I don’t want Pearl don’t really want Barnes those are the type guys we maybe get. The big named guys are happy and have a ton of support at the schools there already at rn

Cal is so obsessed with the NBA that in the last post-game conference, he's STILL claims he is helping these poor 5-star guys families get out of poverty, as if no other D1 program could do that! And he STILL says that getting former UK players to be more than half of the NBA All-Stars is his goal. And that NBA draft day with 2 or 3 or 4 first-round picks make it a very successful season. Cal has stated that the SEC tournament is a low priority and his teams are BUILT for March... Until they aren't.

Barnhart was not prepared? If he hasn't been prepared then what the hell is he getting paid for? Almost every fan can see what has happened the last 4 years and nothing is turning around. In fact, it is going downhill. This is UK, not IU. But, UK can certainly become IU if we continue in this direction. Better to stop it now because next year, which won't get any better, will get ugly. He needs to go now. This year was his last chance to change things, and he failed when it mattered the most. To keep him another year is simply wrong for everyone, especially the fans.

I re-watched the game. Our inability to attack their 1-3-1 is embarrassing. NC STATE switched on every screen for Goelke, and he still hit 6 of 17 but it was far less damaging and they made it tough on him to get his shot off. I thought perhaps we should front the post and make them throw over top of our bigs rather than let them just catch it in the post and back us down and score over us. Cal since he has been here his teams have not been able to guard a pick and roll. I get it we are always young but I wonder what they do in practice sometimes. Easy to be an arm chair QB , but this staff and coach are just not getting it done. The elitism that Cal exudes, and the way he talks down to our fan base. We are loud and we are obnoxious but we are passionate and we travel better than any fan base in the country. Thank you for the first 8 years, what a ride! Great times, but its time for everyone to move on. Cal can go to another school and do a very good job, but his time at UK is done. Why did you not take your own advise and leave after year 10? Ready to be done with Cal - wont go to a game or watch any longer.

I dont see how Cal's culture can thrive when he lives in Nashville and New Jersey 95% of the offseason. I dont know how you can convert NBA caliber talent to NCAAT success when Cal takes two days off after every 3rd game because he become overly obsessed with load management because he must've saw some NBA guy talking about it. This team was full of gym rats but Cal had to be home in his lucky chair hugging a tub of Utz mini pretzels watch ice road truckers instead of using all the 20 hour/wee rule. He's competely burnt out as evidenced by he never attends the pre game press conferences, cuts short almost every post game presser and post game radio , looks for any excuse to give the team an extra day off. He finally embraces shooting as vital to CBB success in 2024 but is still stubborn to embrace scouting, analytics, portal research from a truely deep dive manner like alot of these ther schools. That's where he fails. He hasn't forgot how to coach although his defense used to be a strength but sees completely clueless when it come to modern pick and roll 90% of the time offenes.

I believe the following all happened (as a perfect storm) or picked up steam 2020-2021:
    1. 2018 - transfer portal opens. It didnt pick up full steam until 2021, but any program can poach really good experienced players.
    2. 2019 - Cal signs lifetime contract worth $86 million.
    3. 2021 - NIL begins. Now not only can you poach big name players, you can entice them with money.
    4. Post COVID the college game changed. It was faster paced and perimeter oriented, like the NBA. Teams that could shoot the three, space you out, and get out in transiton, had the upper hand on athletic driving teams with a traditional big man.
What happens when all four happen? Big name schools are able to get players that are just as good as 5 star freshmen, but with experience. Teams made the change to the modern style of play, while Cal continued his stubborn archaic style of dribble drive. It exposed Cal from a coaching standpoint as he is now competing with teams that are just as athletic, more experienced, and offensively explosive than his teams. He cant just roll the ball out and win by pure athletic ability but can now be outcoached as the playing field is leveled. His teams struggle defensively because he is only accustomed to guarding the way his teams have played in the past. That is why he has struggled to adapt defensively as well.
Early post COVID he did get great experienced players in the portal that supported his archaic trafitional style only to lose. This year he did change by finding dynamic playmakers who can shoot, but they were freshmen.
I think it is a more complicated situation that most are thinking with variety of things happeming at once. And on top of that it is really hard to win the whole thing. However at UK, you ahould be competing on Sundays fo SEC championships and get past the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. This is UK basketball and that is the expectation. Not a hope. If you cant adapt and figure out ways to win as a coach, then someone else will.

Think the best comment I heard was that Kentucky shouldn't become the middle man for NBA players. A huge problem after watching the defense tape is the 1st rounders know they don't have to learn defense for the next level. If other programs can win championships with 2nd rounders who are hungry trying to move up in rank, then it's time to get a coach who will focus on fundamentals and not how much money the Alumni fund it going to get.

I could care less about the NBA. I do not even watch the NBA. I enjoy watching college basketball and especially the Cats. As a birthday present I got my daughter who is a big fan to see the Cats play Vanderbilt. We had a blast watching that game. I have to say this year has been the first year in a long time that I was excited and I really enjoyed this team. The fans love this team no doubt. This team was the most fun and most disappointing team to watch but it gave us all hope. Then to make a first round exit is just gut wrenching. I haven't liked the direction of this program for sometime and Cal will not change. Just simple changes in a game just show something different. None of us want a program that was a one and done. He has created this mess and has forgotten what this program is. Sure it is exciting to see new talent and new faces but year after year it gets really old. If Cal could make some changes to his philosophy and rearrange the focus and intention of what this program means then maybe we can build from that. It really sucks that we are in this predicament and Cal just is not the same.

I was at U-Mass and Coach Cal put us on the map 30 years ago. He's a good coach. People have to realize that the whole fun and excitement of March Madness is that a lesser talented team can beat a better team. They (Oakland) needed to get hot on Three's which happened, and sometimes that is enough. Kentucky didn't get blown out, they lost by 4. I can't stand it when people question when a better team loses, why don't you just congratulate the lesser team and give them credit and say "thank you" for giving excitement to this tournament.

When you think about Cal's overall performance in the 15 years the only national championship he won was when he got lucky and got AD. I knew in 2013 when he lost the first game of the NIT to Robert Morris that was shocking but I knew we were in for bad times with him coaching and when he had Devin Booker and Tyler riding the bench it left me scratching my head every game thinking surely he will stop this nonsense but nope it went on till it cost us a National Championship how could any coach be too blind to see that there is no explanation that has ever made any sense and all these years later he has Reed and Rob never starting so it's time for him to go he has or is about to destroy the Kentucky brand. Charles Barkley hit it right on the nail head when he said Cal gets all the McDonalds All Americans and then gets his ass beat by a bunch of old men that eat at McDonalds.

do a show on how many games Calapri has tanked as either a heavy favorite or an underdog choking at the finish line all the way back to UMASS. I am not sure why people think he's a good coach. Hes a good ambassador for the school maybe. He has done less with more talent than any other coach in college basketball.

For me it's not a recruiting problem, age problem etc.. It's always been that he is just an awful in game coach. He makes no adjustments, I see no game preparation as far as preparing for the other team. He thinks that if he gets the best players then they will win the game with the dribble drive. We have lost so many big games on just Cal getting out coached. Defense wins championships and creates transition buckets. Gotta start with teaching proper defense. These kids aren't taught fundamentals or defense in high school anymore. That is Cal's job. That and making winning games for the University of Kentucky his top priority and quit trying to be a godfather for every lottery pick just to build his brand.

Right now it is Cal’s head on the block. If Barnhart is not prepared to bring in a home run hire, it will be his own head on the block. I think he is going to keep Cal another day to buy him some time to prep. If Cal redeems himself…great. If not, he’ll let Cal keep drawing the fire while he gets the ducks in a row.

Look guys. Someone at KSR has like or loved several of my comments. So, just so you know? I don't say what people want to hear for likes or loves. I say what is on my heart and in my mind. When the heart and mind agree?.....Truth prevails.
Cal has one, one Natty at UK, 2012. Within the best of my memory? That team consisted of 3 FR. Davis, Kidd-G, and Marquis. Jones and Lamb and Witljer????? were SO. Vargus was an upper classman and Miller was a 4th or 5th year SR. Read into that what you will. My advice to KSR? "Opinions are like "........"So.......stop jumping on the popular badwagon for views and likes even though you may have the same feelings from a knee jerk reaction to our loss in the first round. Yes, it sucks but, it would take 6 years at least to reach the level of excitement Cal gives us every year. (His departure would not be like Tubby taking over Ricks talent) [not a dig at Tubby either] Just Truth.
The main stream (sports) media has glorified UK because Cal gets players to the NBA. More than any other school over the past 15 years. Something I've grown to understand from this current landscape of CCB. Every player that wants to take the jump before they are ready now expect to be one and done. If they don't leave after one year? It's almost, if not certain they will view themself as a failure if they don't. Which puts more pressure in their performance at crunch time. Cal can only coach the team because he can't play the position for every player. They must perform. In summation? It's the culture.....the nature of the beast that's created this landscape. Now, kids feel they must live up to the past. Those that want Cal gone? Remember this. Be Careful for what you wish for.

The 2012 Natty is suspect as UNC was playing their 4th string point guard due to a hard foul by Creighton that broke K. Marshall's wrist. Had that not happened, KY may or may not have won the Natty, as that was a formidable UNC team with out the injury. Lady Luck smiled on KY in 2012.

I feel that he really has lost his way here at Kentucky. He's gotten lazy and only really cares about sending kids to the next level, even if they are ready or not. It's true that he doesn't really do much of his job anymore. His own staff will tell you that he only does maybe about 60% of what he's supposed to do. The rest of the time, he off doing his own thing.
I really feel if they do let him stay, they would actually have to hire someone to be his babysitter. Someone that would be telling him yes or no, and making sure that he's doing everything that he's supposed to do in University of Kentucky's interest.
I don't think that would go over to well with little Cals huge ego. So he would probably say hasta la vista, to that and pack his own bags and run.😏
