  • Comparison video of some of my favourite pickups. It can also be seen as a video of wich guitar pickups that suits these guitars really well. Unfortunately I hadn't time to do it really properly and try the different pickups in the same guitar but it'll show how they sound and the guitars doesn't differ that much except for one.

    When you do the stereo clips the guitars are out of phase with each other making it sound extremely thin. I’m assuming you did the fast delay trick panned which can do that. If they were truly double tracked then I’m not so sure, but the solo guitar stereo tracks were definitely out of phase. Nice comparison though! Very helpful.

    The more I hear emg pickups in demos like this, the more I realize that there more modern pickups the X series and some of their other modernish sounding pickups are very interesting and cool to me. If you want to hear some good modernish sounding emgs with good clean tones, I recommend checking out Chris Letchford"s album lightbox. Idk which brand of pickups I would go with on my dream guitar, but I will for sure check out some newer emgs when I have money for my dream guitar and maybe lots more will be available at that time.

    I'm a drummer and am playing guitar here and there. I don't really have that much knowledge when it comes to guitar tone. I usually like playing black metal and some death metal and want to have a good tone. I have a Jackson Randy Rhoad V (it's not a neck-through) but I feel like it's too light weight to hold or sustain a note for a long time and I wanted to get pick ups for it. I'm liking the Dimarzio ToneZone pick ups from what I've heard, but the problem I'm wondering is since my guitar feels VERY light weight, would it not hold/sustain notes for a long time including divebombs & pinch harmonics. Please, any help is appreciated.

    Good evening, I have a Guitarra Tagima - "TG530" and would like to know if I buy a DiMarzio Super Distortion Dp218 pickup for the bridge, will it meet the requirements for playing Demons & Wizards or would it be a Seymour Duncan JB JR SJBJ-1B to withstand the aggressiveness of the picks?

    • @NiclasKarlssonguitarswe

    Thanks for this. We can definitly hear about the signature of the various pick ups. then it is a matter of taste and personnally I have a preference for the di marzio sound - EMG sounds great in metal rythm - Duncan too much in the mediums for me.

    • @sguerilla6142
      @sguerilla6142 11 месяцев назад

      The main reason why I sold my SD Dimebucker is the one you mentioned, it is too medium. I bought it even though I never liked Dime's sound live like, say, the sound of Gary Holt with SD JB (especially at the 2008 Wacken concert, maybe the best sound I've ever heard, after Cannibal Corpse, of course). Here in Serbia, SH 13 is not cheap, it costs around 160 euros new. DiMarzio SuperDistrorsion costs 100 euros new!! I only have BC Rich guitars, on the Jr V NJ Deluxe I have an EMG 81 active but it's tuned in A so it sounds great (I believe that with every pick up it sounds great in A tune hahaha)... For now, I'm going with DiMarzio, I have them on 2 guitars and they sound phenomenal.

    EMG 81 is hands down the best for metal and live playing. Tone Zone is a great pickup too and is less tight. It’s very sensitive to circumstances I.e amp, modelling etc. It doesn’t have enough highs and too bassy so straight into a Marshall it’s ok and not as tight. But if you use it with modelling it’s perfect because modelling inherently tends to have a lot of highs.

    • @NiclasKarlssonguitarswe
      @NiclasKarlssonguitarswe  4 года назад

      I don't know but there's a reason to why they are labeled bridge and neck pickups. You want to have a bit lower output on the neck to balance it with the bridge pickup. But you CAN have a bridge pickup in neck position and the opposite but you have to match the pickups output so they sound harmonic together. It depends on playing style also what you want to achive. But if you are satisfied with a certain combo then it is good! :)

    Dimarzio's are crunchier and seem to be louder in the recordings, so they seem to be over the bass and drums in the mix because of this, so they are featured more. The Seymour Duncans seem to allow the bass guitar frequencies to fill up the guitar tone due to them being a bit more scooped in the mids compared to the Dimarzio's. The SD seems to be lower in the mix a bit due to this feature or design. Emg's sound bad in my opinion, but are somewhat redeemable in a mix.

      Have you tried the X series from EMG? They have the feel of a passive pickup. I don't mean to say that EMG is superior, nor that I have a set installed in my guitar, but from the multiple RUclips comparison videos I watched, they sound more responsive than the regular actives that EMG makes. Then again, it's up to preference.

    None for crunch rock or AC/DC stuff, for metal EMG are more articulated, better note separation, more clarity less dynamic, but your amp can handle,esterile=clear? I´m not sure, you can dirt with your valves

    I don’t really like the Duncans very much. I really like the di marzio for distortion but I think that my ears prefer the emgs

    SH-6 for me, everybody is EMG obsessed. They must be deaf! EMG is over rated way too old school compared to some of the others u got. Di Marzio not bad either!
