    No electronics on a 996. Top speed is 160mph. It’s a v twin so it has 120hp. Won’t hit 170 or 180mph. Design wise it’s one of the most beautiful sport bikes ever made. Insanely fun and dry clutch is so great.

    Love my 996, I've commuted on mine since 2016. At 160mph it's extremely manageable but over that she feels like she is trying too hard. Lots of maintenance but I ride really hard, Clutch every 5kmi. 40k, never left me stranded.

    My first bike was a red 2000 748, I'm 6'2" so it was a love/hate deal. It was a great bike to ride out on a twisting state highway and the only time it was comfortable to ride was when I had it leaned over in a curve. In town or in stop and go traffic, it was murder to be on that bike; all your weight goes straight to your wrists. I eventually discovered I could offset that effect by flexing my abs/core region at slower speeds, it has the effect of straightening your back and taking weight off your wrists. That bike had so much character and I miss it, I want to replace it with a 996.

    • @katanaxi

      I have a 916 and flexing your core is so key! But I'm the same height / weight as Foggy so I have it a bit easier than you do 😂

    Just bought my first Ducati early this year. A 2000 748, low miles, very "clean". Beautiful, sounds great, but it's a handful to ride. Slow to warm up, sidestand has to be up to start (though you can get a "cheater" for the switch), but I'm not bonding with how small and cramped it is, and the handling. It wants to turn wide and stand up, and the revs rise and fall quickly (too light of a crank or flywheel?) Very hard to ride around town, much better on the highway and fast sweepers. Certainly gets attention, though.

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I’m sure the internals have some to do with the quick revs and fast drop off. That’s awesome you were able to find that model in good condition! 👍👍

      @@itsmeericb , yes, well sometimes several of the "old" Superbikes will pop up between Craig's, Cycle Trader, eBay, which is the case right now. I'd love to ride a 996 or 1098 or 848 to see how the rideability is. I have a 2007 R1 with a full M4 exhaust, and it's easier to ride even with 70 more HP! Handles like a dream.

    • @captainamerica9353
      @captainamerica9353 Год назад

      @@thomasb282 , it builds and loses revs too fast, sort of like a Honda VFR. I later found out the gearing is "shorter" than a 916 / 996 / 998, which doesn't help the streetability. When you're on the highway in 5th or 6th, it's ok, though.

    I remember those during the late 90's early 2K's and always liked the style but they are too compact for my height 6'2" and were fairly expensive. I was riding a 1200 Bandit which fit me well then went with a 2000 ZX12R. I still like the style of these older bikes and prefer them and the older naked bikes, like the Bandit and ZRX1200, and even older and still have a 79 Honda CBX and 83 1100F Super Sport. Do they perform like the newer stuff? No. Do they look badass? Yes. You need to hear the CBX inline 6 with the 6 into 1 exhaust. F1 car-esk.

      Mah! Veramente la 996 ebbe come unico aggiornamento importante rispetto alla 916 del 1994 la fusione del carter basamento con nuovi stampi e nuovi rinforzi che gli ha permesso tutti gli aumenti di cilindrata e potenza successivi. Con la vecchia fusione e il vecchio basamento il limite per la produzione di serie fissato a 916 è stato superato solo per una piccola produzione necessaria per partecipare al campionato SBK nord-americano con cilindrata 955.
      Fu la Honda e la Suzuki che risposero alla Ducati creando i loro bicilindrici non il contrario. Grandi moto entrambe.

    • @nando03012009
      @nando03012009 2 года назад

      @@NudaMan the difference are night and day. On the 1299 I feel like I'm sitting in the bike thereforepart of it. On the v4 I feel as if I'm on it. The v4 has more power but you have to rev it high. The torque from the twin is unmatched and pulls through the rev range. Both are terrible if you're commuting and have to deal with traffic. The heat from these bikes are on another level but it's part of the ducati experience. If your looking for straight line speed there are other bikes I would get. For example my 2015 gsxr1000 is faster at 210.7mph GPS verified. With little mods.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but the rear brake is on the right side on ALL motorcycles? How do you confuse that with the shifter? GP Shift doesn't change the side that the shifter is on. It just inverts the up/downshift direction (1 Up, N23456 Down). If your instinct is to shift with your right foot you are putting yourself in danger every time you ride.
