@@lightyagami1058 You're not wrong, but the way you count both of them are a little different. In 3/4, there are 3 strong beats, but in 6/8, there are 2 strong beats.
omg staaaaph this is so so cute!! i can imagine it as a soundtrack for like a silly little game where all you have to do is just run around and pick flowers or sthhhhh
This um... this gives me a lot of memories. I once got into a woodwind quartet playing a tenor saxophone (subbing in for the bassoon part), and this piece is really reminiscent of like... every piece that we'd play.
This reminds me of some of Kevin Penkin's works with the unique, light and hoppity feel to the melodies and interactions between parts, I absolutely love it!
based on the title I was fully expecting this to be a hot mess and I kept waiting for the hot mess to kick in and it never came turns out you’re just a good composer and this is really good
good catch, I put my transposing instruments in concert pitch when writing, I accidentally published it in concert pitch. so it's a Bb Clarinet but the music is wrote in C. Whoops! 🤭
lovely piece! it reminds me of an "earthier" version of Herman beeftink's bird flute trio - which is one of my favorite compositions ever thank you for sharing your beautiful sleepy art with us
@@LZGunn It's not too poorly written, 39 is very doable, it's just not really worth the time it would take to learn the run. Low staccato is fine as long as it's not piano, or a finger nightmare. In this case 43 is fine.
Nice, clear writing with a fine sense of when to change it up. The 6/8 would probably be more logical in 3/4, but your note choices are all right on.I write all day long and by far the best time of day is half asleep, first thing in the morning.
This is great! I’m trying to start using other instruments (than piano) in my writing, but I’m real bad at it. So it’s really nice to be able to listen and see how a genuinely interesting piece of music is written.
Since the day this was posted this has been at the top of my recommended every time I’ve opened RUclips and I decided to finally listen to it. Sounds whimsical.
As someone who has studied music professionally for many years, 6/8 writing was 100% the right call. Silly RUclips commenters never heard of tavakididama subdivision
6/8 section would read better in 3/4
I agree looking back on it, thanks for the feedback! :)
@@LZGunn Nice piece!
I mean there are still 6 eighth notes in the measure right?
@@lightyagami1058 You're not wrong, but the way you count both of them are a little different. In 3/4, there are 3 strong beats, but in 6/8, there are 2 strong beats.
@@rohanphilip491 Who says it's mandatory for those strong beats to be a necessity?
it's sad that this man can write music better than i can half asleep opposed to when i'm fully awake 😭
I couldn't write something this good fully-awake! Amazing!
ty :D!
Truly an exquisite little ditty you've written here. Hats off to you good sir!
Thank you kindly!
i would absolutely love to hear this performed in person
me too!! I'm glad you like this piece!
Trying this on oboe currently B)
nah i cant with those oboe runs 💀
as an oboist, i would be surprised if anyone ever performed this. 32nd notes straight up to high D, is almost impossible to play well
@@jakerussell135 difficult def not impossible tho
i wrote my best piece ever when i was piss drunk. unfortunately my handwriting was crap, so i have no idea what it sounds like.
Lol
I played this for my cat and it immediately put him in a trance. I don’t know what that means. I think he likes it.
cat music 😼😼
@@LZGunn bro got the cat serenade
For being half asleep, that’s classical composer level. Man writes that piece amazingly well and i love it
As a bassoonist, I adore this so much. It's so pretty and I want to play in a group so bad
I love how it sounds like the instruments are talking to each other lol
i think this is worthy of being classified as a "little ditty" and possibly even "a silly little tune"
The harmonies were beautiful! I love the unusual mixing or rhythms idk it was very nice to listen to
Thank you so much!!
as a bassoonist and clarinetist, this goes absolutely silly (in a good way) and i really like it! absolutely going to try and play it tomorrow
omg staaaaph this is so so cute!! i can imagine it as a soundtrack for like a silly little game where all you have to do is just run around and pick flowers or sthhhhh
This sounds so cute and light. I love it!
The ending was so cute that I clapped automatically even though the performers weren't real
This um... this gives me a lot of memories. I once got into a woodwind quartet playing a tenor saxophone (subbing in for the bassoon part), and this piece is really reminiscent of like... every piece that we'd play.
It really feels like someone's nodding off

As a bassoonist I approve of the ending very much
I refuse to believe you wrote this while not intensely focused, absolutely gorgeous❤
based on the title I was fully expecting this to be a hot mess and I kept waiting for the hot mess to kick in and it never came
turns out you’re just a good composer and this is really good
me and my friend just laughed so hard at this comment lol
I feel like I’ve been sent into a side quest to subscribe to this Channel
this sounds like something from an old disney movie i love it
Is the clarinet in the right key? If it is in the key of Bb the key signature should be C major. But im just guessing that it's in the key of C
good catch, I put my transposing instruments in concert pitch when writing, I accidentally published it in concert pitch. so it's a Bb Clarinet but the music is wrote in C. Whoops! 🤭
@@LZGunn a professional clarinetist should be able to transpose it regardless.
@@johnmcclain610 It doesn’t take a profession to transpose from C to Bb, it’s just annoying.

I see a baby bear, gosling, getting in trouble then the tattle tales rabbit and warbler right behind them. Beautiful little piece.
i cannot imagine what you're capable of FULLY awake
Some bits sound like my early stuff, kind of rambling, and then others actual sound really good with true emotion
This sounds like a chill area theme for a game tbh
lovely piece! it reminds me of an "earthier" version of Herman beeftink's bird flute trio - which is one of my favorite compositions ever

I'll check it out!
Truly a whimsical piece, magnificent!
how is this literally so prettyyyyyy
can you make ur next one w a viola and violin? i'd love to play something with my bestie!!!
viola violin duet on the way, what key, tempo, time signatures, and yadayada do u want
I love that last chord it feels very silly
yayaya
Don't play bassoon but notoriously record my tenor sax and lower it an octave. Gives a similar sound; think I might learn this some time soon!
Took me on a whole ass whimsical journey.
As an oboist , bar 39 is gonna cost you some friendships
also bar 43, avoid putting staccato on the lowest range on the oboe , its a real struggle lol
@@angelchar1517 yes sorry, why would 39 cost friends?

This makes me feel so forgiven and oblivious
I love that motif it's so magical
which one💀💀
I think it's fun. What is the instrumentation? Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, and Bassoon?
Yes, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, and Bassoon. :)
Yes but oboe and clarinet are switched I think
@@jakerussell135 yep oboe is the alto voice and clarinet is the tenor
That is silly. Not bad -- actually very pretty at times. But silly, too.
Very interesting modulation at the end. Cool piece!
this quartet is indeed a little silly but also very enchanting
You have a talent for titles! Also the piece is quite nice
not my youtube one's but ty
I need to hear this live omg
I liked it. Kind of reminds me of medieval woods or something like that
the last bassoon is so nice
finally a bassoon part that is not on four notes

I appreciate that you decided to go with clarinet in C. Can't be bothered to transpose.
This sounds lovely, and also inspired me to have a try at writing something for wind quartet. Great work!
Go for it!
This is so good! I can believe that you wrote it half-asleep, because it was dreamy.
Thank you so much!
Should get this published... would be fun to play
I admittedly was hoping it would be horrific and funny but it’s just a chill song, neat.
I want to learn the clarinet just so I can play this song, I'll be on some Squidward type beat
What a fun little quartet!
I'm glad this video blew up, I love this piece
I was expecting a meme, but this is really pretty!
Ima show this to my oboe teacher and see if I can get some ppl to do it for our woodwind area recital because it looks so fun
