  • St James's is incredibly important to the history of the Friends. In 1954, this medieval church was lovingly restored by our founder, Ivor Bulmer-Thomas, in memory of his wife.
With its medieval roofs in danger of complete collapse, St James's requires our help and, thanks to a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund in 2023, we can now take action to repair and protect the church for future generations.

I notice that T.S. Eliot was on the original committee! Wishing you all the best.

That was hugely interesting. I was actually to visit this church in 2020 - but Covid dominated our lives and travel was impossible. Then when I was able to reschedule for 2023 and I approached my contact at the church, I learned it had been closed due to the roof needing urgent attention. So please to see that work is underway and that one day, in the future I may have the privilege of seeing this wonderful church building. Thank you for posting this so myself and other can have this update.
