Many Thanks. As a life long student returning back to study. A calculator has been important for the use in Maths in my study. I was thinking about up-grading to a better one. You have helped.
Thanks John, pleased it helped, good lick with your studies, I'm a big believer in life-long learning. I took a masters whilst teaching full time and am now a PhD student again after working for 10 years since my first degree!
I bought this calculator for college in india but ugc board not allowing us to use calculator for exam. So i am using it to practice math at home, it is very good for intense math practice.
Yes, agreed! Although I think they're not essential with online tools available these days there's still something nice about these calculators I think!
Hi Kevin, I need to find a calculator for my SCQF Levels 4 & 5 qualifications. I suffer with dexterity issues so require something that has slightly larger keys as I struggle with detailed movements. Would you be able to point me in the right direction? Many thanks
That's an interesting question and not something I've seen before but seems like it would be useful so surprised there doesn't seem to be anything obviously available. I've asked around and the closest thing I can find is something like this www.inclusive.co.uk/sci-plus-3200-scientific-calculator - but very expensive. There are a lot of online tools you could use in place of a calculator though if you're looking for something you can take into an exam that might not be a good solution. I'd ask the centre where you're taking the qualification as they might be able to help.
Thank you, Kevin! I'm a Math teacher in Argentina and I do have the 991 LAX model of Casio. It's very nice! Do you know what the difference between this and the EX model is? Thank you in advance for your answer.
I'm not certain - just googled it and they look identical so my guess is that it is the same but with different language/region options. LA could plausible stand for Latin America and E for English perhaps but this is a total guess! I do know there are many version with different language menus though, having accidentally bought a German version once!
Also had a great trip to Paraguay a couple of years ago to do some statistics teaching - and passed through Beunos Aires on the way there and back and very much enjoyed it! Bit hard to travel now but hope to go back sometime soon!
Hi I am just wondering as I will be starting my A levels by end of this year 2021. I was handed down from a friend a calculator they no longer needed which is the TI-36X pro (Texas instruments 36X pro) although online it mentions TI30X pro is allowed for AS level and A level there are no information regarding the TI- 36X pro calculator. To me both the Texas instruments calculator look identical except the price and one looking more fancy with silver buttons like the Casio FX-991EX which mostly everyone recommends bit as I have already been handed down this calculator already I wondered if anyone could possibly have any advice. I will be doing the Edexcel exam board not any other UK Examboard like OCR or AQA. If you could possibly give some advice that would be very helpful. Thank you, Kind regards, Tom.
@@tomh8782 I believe it's fine. It cannot complete symbolic algebra or calculus and it can complete statistical distributions which are the key things. It is not prohibited.
Can you use Texas Instruments calculator for A level maths in the UK such as the TI-36X PRO calculator as well not just the Casio FX-991EX Classwiz calculator?
Yes most calculators are allowed, I can't see any reason the ti-36 pro. The only calculators that wouldn't be allowed would be if they could do symbolic algebra or have the ability to connect to the internet in any way. Double check with the centre where you'll take the exam if you're concerned though
I've just started college and I'm doing a level maths, further maths, Physics and Computer science. I just wanna know if the CG50 is actually essential, or how much it helps, since my school is recommending them
As I say in the video, not essential at all - can enrich further maths but I've taught classes who basically all got top grades for maths and further maths, went to Oxbridge etc without using them. Some had them and enjoyed them but not at all essential for the actual course. If your school plans to actually use them for their teaching it might be different, but if it's just a recommendation it's up to you. You can get just as much playing around with tools like Desmos etc - the benefit in the actual exam is very limited imo.

Between WHSmith Black Scientific Calculator and CASIO FX-83GTX Black Scientific Calculator wich one would you recomand for University Buisness Management cours? Thanks!
I don't know the WHSmith one, but I'm sure the Casio will do the job! The FX 991-EX has a few extra features and is the one I recommend in this video amzn.to/3lGvzjZ - it has a few extra options for statistics that you might find useful, though the FX-83 may well have all you need depending on the details of the course.
@@dhairyagajera3729 My jokes aren't always that funny - I just meant that you could learn to sketch graphs and do it by hand with a pencil - that's the cheapest way! But otherwise I already recommended a good calculator in the video - but if you want a good free option, you can really get just as far using something like desmos online. Just you can't take that into the exams of course.
