    Warren, you made me realize something that never occurred to me before. The math of diminished chords is an inversion of augmented chord math. Meaning, there are only three diminished 7th chords (made up of 4 tones each... 3 chords x 4 tones = 12). And OPPOSITELY, there are only four augmented triads (comprised of three tones each... 4 chords x 3 tones = 12). Our 12 tone scale is endlessly fascinating and never ceases to amaze me!

    You're the best, Warren! Thanks for all you do! Your videos are so helpful! On the AUG7, it works great with a 2-5 passing. If in the key of C, and if I want to get to IV (F), I can do a 2-5 passing to go to 4. The chords: Gmin9, Caug7, Fmaj9. Where is the 2? I thought the 2 is Dmin in the key of C?? So I'm a bit confused on how the 2-5 passing was used?

    • @PianoLessonwithWarren
      @PianoLessonwithWarren  2 года назад

      The 2 is Gm7. 2-5-1 passing is a concept; we’re temporary tonicizing F to make it the “1” which make Gm=2 and C=5

    I think this should best be called a 7#5 chord chord... the jazzers have it right in this case. Using classical terminology, "augmented 7th" sounds similar to "augmented 6th" and gived the expectation that the 7th is the augmented note, which of course makes no sense as it would just be an octave. This could be confusing

    Warren your lessons are great! Very clear and helpful.
    The only thing I find a bit confusing is the fact that in all your video’s a G sharp is projected as an A flat when iT is actually a G Sharp. All the Sharps are written as flats. Is that because of the program you are using?
    I know the notes sound the same but in theory they are different. Now it looks that the sixth note is lowered instead of a fifth being heigthened

    • @PianoLessonwithWarren

      The 2-5 passing concept derived from Jazz theory and harmony. This not really a beginners concept hence the confusion. The 2-5 passing concept often involves using chords from other keys.
