Mr. Sklar this is one of your best videos yet. I love Carole and James I am glad you played bass with them because no one else could think of the beautiful way you just groove it like that AMAZING!!!!
Today's Black History month artist is Mary Wilson who, sadly, passed away yesterday at her home in Las Vegas. She was one of the founding members of The Surpremes back in the 1960's. They were one of the most sucessful female acts of Motown during that time. She was 76 years old. She continued performing was active in supporting a bill for Truth in Music Advertising and donated to several charities. RIP Mary. Thank you for contribution to music.
When you've finished watching this, call up "Automatically Sunshine". I think it's the highest-charting single she sung lead on and it's fantastic as was she. RIP Mary Wilson.
I'm so glad Carole recorded her first hit with Goffin "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" on Tapestry. She set the right tone for the song. Thanks for sharing your wonderful playing Lee on these amazing songs.
Always loved this quote: "As creative people, the thing that we have to break through - and in music, we do - is people who are closed, people who are fearful of opening up. Because if you’re open, you might feel pain. I don’t look for pain, but I don’t think pain is something to fear - although we do. It’s built into our human nature to fear pain. But if you can overcome the fear and say, 'It is what it is. There’s joy and there’s pain, and I want to feel all of it'... that’s kind of what my choice in life has been. I’d rather be a person who’s open, and if I get hurt, I get hurt. So be it. I’ll pick myself up and I’ll move on, and be open again. So I can feel joy, too." Happy, Happy Birthday, Carole. Thanks again, Lee.
Oh hey Seth, PLEASE tell me where you got that quote! Perfect, and to be a true human being, and most especially a creative one, you must stay open to the full spectrum of human experience Thank you for sharing such wisdom with your “friends” here at Lee’s place

Happy Birthday Carole King. You are a national treasure. My friends and I used to drive around listening to Tapestry for hours. That's what we did, drive around listening to music. These stories are hysterical, especially if you play bass. The story about Taylor's drop D tuning leading everyone to blame Sklar sounds like it happened to him yesterday, which is how Bass players see the world. I once told my guitar player I was going to write a book about the trials and tribulations of being a bass player, and he responded:"No one would read it". Thanks for sharing that rehearsal and the bass parts. From what I have seen footage of, that reunion tour was wonderful. I believe remembering seing Judith in the troubadour video of that tour ( the second time I watched it. after I saw you guys perform in Belfast in November 2016) This beautiful lady wearing a white hat while walking to her seat? I remember around 2010 a lady coming up to me at the Alto las Condes Boulevard in Santiago de Chile, where I was singing and playing guitar at the time, raving about having seen the James Taylor and Carol King reunion tour live in the US. She was very sweet and appreciative. Just because I had sang You`ve got a friend, one of my faves, during my little gig. So, it was very inspiring for me to meet you then rather unexpectedly in Germany in 2012. A musician I had always wanted to meet. Needless to say, you`ve been always been very kind and a true gentleman.
Oh, Leland! Love these youtube videos of yours. It's like taking a stroll down memory lane. And today's post especially. Carol King's music was HUGE for me...I was like a sponge....listening to and figuring out the songs on Carol's Tapestry...sitting at my piano, "playing licks off of records".
Good selection, thanks. I hope Caroles birthday is a good one. The rehearsal was great as we have not been able to hear it before. Appreciated. Take care!
Mr. Sklar, please pass on our gratitude to Ms. King. Several years back, I treated my three nieces to see "Beautiful" in the city for Christmas.
