My believe is that it was used for multiple different purposes across the millennia, including being a temple of a forgotten religion in which the solstice plays a large role ( many old religions did btw )
I'm of these who think that its fallen stones should be re-erected, and missing stones properly replaced... but conserving the same style and construction process. The people who built it didn't built it as half crumbled ruins or with missing stones... it's other people who came later who vandalized it. It deserve to be restored to its former glory. To keep the legacy of its builders alive. Nothing would be left of our medieval and renaissance castles if missing/crumbled stones and rotten wood didn't been properly replaced. Unlike other sites where there's nothing left, Stonehenge could be bring back to life.
