The Pine tree produces a high volume of pollen every spring, blanketing the ground and acting as fertilizer for all the plants in its ecosystem. We could call pine pollen a Spring tonic for the forest itself. It has been consumed as a food by many native tribes in North America for centuries and is considered one of nature's most nutrient dense substances. In the body it is a powerful tonic with adaptogenic properties, helping balance the androgen/estrogen ratios in the body. Modulating endocrine and hormone imbalances, improving immune function and reducing inflammation. As an anti-oxidant pine pollen stimulates the production of superoxide dismutase (SOD), a strong free radical scavenger in the liver heart and brain. It has also been shown to lower cholesterol, stimulate liver regeneration and have anti-tumor effects. Over all it enhances the bodies functions and in my opinion is a greatly underutilized natural resource.
If you would like to know more about Pine Pollen I highly recommend the book "Pine Pollen, ancient medicine for the new millennium" by Stephen Harrod Buhner.

+Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary Can you tell me how to crack cell walls of pine pollen, please?
+samirbalonmano The cell walls are cracked with ultrasonic waves. This is non chemical process and does not alter the pollen, other than opening up the cell walls making it more bioavailable. It' only increases the absorption by 10 to 20% and so it's not necessary if you consume good amounts of raw unbroken cell wall pine pollen.
We use a 60% alcohol content at a 1:5 ratio, 1g pollen to 5ml liquid. Then follow the typical tincture practices which are: Shake daily or every 2 days. Leave pollen for 2 weeks or more in the solution. New Moon to full moon is best for maximal potential. Filter and press out the pollen. Let sit for 1-2 days until any remaining Pollen has settled out, then pour off the top leaving any sediment that has fallen to the bottom behind. This is usually dosed at 20-40 drops 1-2 times daily.
When it comes to medicine making, if you can harvest it locally you will always have a superior product. I am aware of the stuff available from China, that is what most companies use. We are proud that we are using what is in our own back yard. That is not saying that the chinese product is inferior quality, only that there is more then just chemical constituents to good medicine. I would rather see people using pine pollen then not. So make your own choice.
Thank u for sharing. Fine pollen is also great for your pineal gland. Native Americans knew how to use it
live in the north east and new to this, thank you well done.
I would suggest adding a little water to bring it down to 60-65% 1:2 1g pollen (fresh) to 2 ml (liquid) should be good, Or up to 1:5 if it is dried. But you can make it as strong as you like.
I like pine needle tea. Apparently the Native Americans drank it for Vitamin C! I enjoyed this video.
I don't think native americans knew what vitamin c is lol
@@thestuff4321I don't think you know what a native American is😂
it has good androgen balancing effect
That's the best way to tell when the season is starting. Use a tree in your area as a barometer for when to go out and harvest in the forest. Though in an Urban environment the trees may be a week or so ahead of the forest as it is often slightly warmer.
Great video Yarrow! Can't wait to harvest some of this and check out the results! It's something I've been pining for :)
ahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhaaaaa
Great video buddy! Thanks!

So glad i found this during this time of year
When is the time for harvest? Can you get pollen from any pine tree varieties or just certain ones? Thanks!
Cool, thanks. I have 100s of densely wooded acres to play with right outside my door : ) looking forward to it, peace and well being to all.
Good stuff boss, I'm learning slowly but surely
Hello, thank you for the video. I was wondering if you can explain the actual tincturing process of pine pollen. How long do you let the mixture sit? Do you shake everyday? Do you filter out the pollen after the extraction?
Thanks for the video. Will give this a try.
Love the video- thanks for the info!
I can't wait to try harvesting - I walk my kids past a property with a pine tree every morning - hope people don't think I'm nuts for flicking the catkins! Once I see the dust, I'm heading out to the pine barrens by us - guessing it should be a great harvest.
One question - If I see one pine start to dust from flicking the catkins, and that tree is in a relatively urban area, is it safe to assume that trees in a wooded expanse are producing pollen as well?
Cool video. Question...aren't a lot of pines toxic and not safe to consume?
This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you :) I eat the whole catkins like a bird lol. Been out collecting here in Ontario right now!
Hello nice vid! But how much do u need for lets say.. a daily dosage if you're training? and how do u actually take it besides dropping it on food, just eat the powder that u get from sifting it out or?:)
Thank you...
Can you plz do a video on making pollen tinctures
need to do this...saw yellow dust on my car windshield when driving home from the forest today...
Great video 👍
Hey Yarrow, thanks for the info. I harvest everything off the beautiful conifers we have here on Van. Island (well thought I did until I started learning/taking pine pollen this summer). I also work a lot with conifer essential oils with excellent success. (I'm a registered Aromatherapist and herbalist here and in the States). I'm coming to your Saturday workshop at Ingredients!:) Peace - The Herb Nerd
Please follow the instructions in this video. Make sure to share with other women. Thank you for your attention. God bless you!

Can i top dress potted plants and raised beds to add nutrients to the soil will the worms eat the pollen when mixed into compost
I just made my own batch of pine pollen tincture and what I noticed is that some of it will sit at the bottom of the jar but over half will sit ontop of the alcohol so I have to shake it up everyday other wise it just turns hard ontop of the alcohol is this normal?
I would bet you could make a fertilizer from ground catkins the same way you make compost tea and use year round. Anybody tryed anything simular? Here in Florida we have the smaller pollen catkins like this tree and really big pollen catkins covering the state right now in varius stages.
Zach Tele haven't tried it but good idea
Do You Still Take Pine pollen?
Is pine pollen good for both men and women? I've heard varying opinions on this.
Hello from ontario👍 what time of year do the pine trees pollinate?
What if the pine buds are brown??? Also aren't you supposed to dry it out or is it ready to eat from the pine tree??
If you get a good harvest and want to share/sell some for us to use in the dispensary, let us know at sales@harmonicarts.ca
Happy harvesting,
Yarrow
great video, I have many pines on my property. Looks like a lot of work getting what you said came off of one tree I found a seller in china with 7 ounces of 95% cracked for 25 american shipped seems like a deal compared to all the work ?
Some harvest the catkins open or not and let the closed ones open at home... what do you think of that method?
Altezeph I do the same. They open up in a few days.
Check out our newest video on Pine Pollen, I talk about this as well as go more in depth with some great tips in working with this plant. ruclips.net/video/fQ2YewIdUnQ/видео.html

Do trees such as Douglas fir have useful pollens as well?
so you can collect pine pollen from any type of pine tree because there are a lot of different types
Anthony Pooler Yes you can collect it from any pine tree, some have more potency like the white pine, but all are useful.
Also, check out our newest video on Pine Pollen. Way more in depth and full of some great tips in working with this plant. ruclips.net/video/fQ2YewIdUnQ/видео.html
I plan to try and do it, when is the best time ?
Can you consume spruce pollen as well? Is it as beneficial as pine pollen?
We have harvested spruce pollen and it is definitely tasty and abundant. As far as the medicinal benefits, I'm not 100% sure as it's not been studied or used traditionally as much as Pine. But I assume it's very similar. Spruce in general is slightly more masculine as a plant energetically than pine. So my assumption is it would have a similar or stronger effect as an androgen, and similar antioxidant, bioflavonoid, amino acid and other nutrient profile.
Thanks!
Hey do you think its too early too start harvesting pollen? I live in Victoria and over in the Saanich area i'm starting to notice some trees give off a decent amount of pollen.
As soon as you see it it's time to harvest
Got about 1 cup of pollen left, and I've been using it daily for a month now. I find the pollen from the lodge-pole pines to be more potent then the white pines. I'm actually just about to go get some more before work.
Thank you for the video and it really stinks cause I got a really big pine tree in front of my Apartments
What is the cumulative impact on the forest of all the pine pollen gathering?
Thanks for good video, nice that there are more people than me harvesting wild plants.
I was just (Feb-2015) going to make a smoohie with fresh, unrinsed winter pine needles, thinking they must be good for immune system, antibacterial etc, but a little apprehensive since on the earlier occasion, I got an instant, strange irritation in throat, with coughing and a feeling that there may be sth wrong. Now a friend warned me that it must be washed/rinsed because of the chemtrails. I hadn´t thought about that, and pass it on FYI. As the video was made 2,5 yrs ago, the chem trailing was probably not as bad as today. Pollen can´t be rinsed, but hopefully the goodness outweighs the health hazard of the chemtrails, and since the pollen is so short lived, hopefully there is only very little Strontium, Aluminium etc on them.. anyone who knows?
The chemtrailing should be replaced by some life friendly measures...Anyone who knows how they think, i mean they destroy the same earth they themselves live on too? Or do they save great nature reservations for themselves, spared from it? So grateful for reply or reflections. Courage and love to all.
Claudia Bothner I would say that washing them is slightly paranoid as they are only in season for a very short time and shouldnt be bio accumulating these types of toxins. Also Pine pollen is helpful in pulling these toxins out of the body.

Nice job bud
I have everclear 151 proof. Is that too high proof? Also, would you recommend tin tiring at a ratio of 2:1 (2 parts pollen, I part alcohol) or a 1:1 ratio? Thank you, peace
im in georgia and my pine pods have grubs in them is the pollen still ok to use u think?
Danielle Haskins Should be ok, they wont hurt you, but I let the catkins air out before using them so that the little critters find there way to a new home.
Pollinator-bearing and protein-rich. Pollen to spare, even.
Share, snare.
The grubs seem to think so. ❤
I wonder if this Pine Pollen is good for the Pieniel gland (or however you spell it).
What is your technique for cracking the cell wall of Pine Pollen ?
Okay, thank you :)
Love your videos!
You didn’t mention when to pick the pollen what time are year what month none of that
do you crack the cell of the pine pollen
Do you have a favorite pine species you work with? Or find that certain kinds have more/less adaptogenic properties?
All the pine species produce great pollen. I find catkins on the white pine to be the largest and have the most pollen in them. As far as chemical constituents in each type, I'm not sure that there is a big difference
when is pine pollen season? im in north east PA
can you only get it in the spring?
Did you really say 70 % alcohol? It's hard to get that I think. I've heard that 40 % is enough. Or are you meaning 80 proof alcohol?
Can you collect from Evergreen Trees?
All the species in pine family produce good pollen
Something else to think about is the radiation from Fukushima. Especially along the west coast of Canada and the USA. It is is the air and the water.
Richard Shannon Pine Pollen is very helpful for removing radiation toxicity from the body. Check out our newest video on Pine Pollen. Way more in depth and full of some great tips in working with this plant. Also I talk about its use for radiation and polution.
ruclips.net/video/fQ2YewIdUnQ/видео.html
Very interesting. Thanks.
+Richard Shannon ya ya cars in the background noise lots of carbon monoxide in that dust
What time of year?
Generally mid April to around early May. So pretty close to now
I don't know much about adaptogens, but this paper shows that Gibberellins (one adaptogen in pine pollen) levels vary quite a bit, so the type of pine might matter a lot. www.plantphysiol.org/content/plantphysiol/56/5/655.full.pdf
Has anyone tried a battery-powered hand held vacuum? My wheels are turning.
Sounds like a great idea. Let us know if you try it and how it works
Too close to a busy road. Contamination from unwanted chemicals and elements would be my worry.
You breath right?
You'd better stop that when near a road
But please remember to respect the tree and not take too much from one section or one tree.
You should be specifying the correct type of alcohol. All alcohol is poisonous and can kill, except for ethyl alcohol used in liquor.
OK, where's weed?
Dude… the pollen will come back in a day. Don’t tear off the trees balls.
I am in zip code 64156 KCMo. and this stuff is everywhere! FREE
