    badEgg님의 말씀 받아적기...(crack 3)
Today, you’ve got enough love-yourself type of advice. When starting to embrace the fact you are not special, you truly become special. Time to be awake. You are just a normal human being. a.k.a. Muggle. and that is chic.
When Hatch phase 1 which it thought was the biggest enlightened moment, it did nor realise it was blind with its world and strong ego until it convinced itself and got to Hatch phase 2. I knew I was an idealistic person and my ideas had been unrealistic so-called 안드로메다 so I tried to be down-to-earth through a variety of experiences but Hatch phase 2 happened unexpectedly.
According to Herman Hesse, “It may be thought that the growth of the ego is only internal, but humans are always connected to the outside world. That’s why the growth of the self occurs when each external event shakes the self, not just by myself.”
Here are some external events that happened to me. Firstly, it was too into what it loves to care about what the world requires you to do or understand. For example, it did not listen to others’ advice because it thought it knew what it was doing and did not care much about other parts of the world such as capitalism, economics, or money so-called the rule of the real world. Subconsciously it thought that money is vulgar and the attitude towards life should be artistic with one’s philosophy. How ideal that naive baby egg was. It even thought that the money, to simply put, is bad and the art is the ultimate pure, good thing it can pursue. This shows how blinded it was with all-or-nothing thinking. In this naive theory, advertising/business and art are complete opposites which later it realised is not true according to the Crack2 episode. Everything we see is related to one another. When I started to work, the range of people I got to meet got more diverse. And a few uncomfortable patterns were spotted and created a confusion in my values. If I must exaggerate, I narrowed it down to 2 types of people. Being aloof about money or even denying. One pursues high-dimensional/social values and obsessive morality. For the,, money is opposite to morality and somewhat scary to handle. Generally, against Capitalism. But then, those people in their 50s were not so wealthy and often in the situation requiring money and spent time working hard to earn it. It sounded self-contradictory to me and made a second crack to my all-or-nothing thinking. I could visualise them in the future being stuck with a closed view on the real world.
There is another type making legitimate or strategic profits out of the valuable services they provide. They still pursue social values and everything and the only difference is the fact that they accept money or capitalism. For them, it can be motivation to provide better products or means to achieve something else and nothing related to this is a taboo. I could visualise them in the future being affluent and fulfilling with an open view on the real world. I did not know what these patterns exactly meant. But I got the feeling that my philosophy was narrow-minded and ignorantly moral. At least, I shouldn’t be against money itself.
I am not glorifying Capitalism but suggesting you acknowledge two worlds. Necessity of rule of your world and the real world. And suggesting you see what you can do next.
This does not mean that Hatch phase 1 is wrong as it expanded my taste and thoughts vertically and horizontally. What I am saying is you go through these two Hatch phases in this particular order as quickly as possible and you need to properly mix-match together in your way as you go.
It is quite grateful about what it studied in Uni, Business, which in the past it thought it’s too generic and not practical. But definitely, it played a role in lowering the barrier of getting familiar with capitalism.
Luckily and unexpectedly, spending time in the galleries helped this time. It had learnt about business and investment when spending time in galleries, speculating on the correlation between artistic value and popular appeal, factors of authenticity. Even art needs to be popular to be judged to prove its commercial value and that way, the market survives, more art comes in and higher potential demands are created.
Virtuous, flowing cycle. As I became aware of this cycle, I noticed that the art, I believe was crystal pure, is also to do with money. Shocked at first but I can explain things much clearer. Another similarity between art and brand business.
Therefore it started to not only care about philosophy, personality, message but also look into means, how a brand or artist survives in the market, what strategy they adopt for better performance or better communication, how they deal with the challenges they face in certain circumstances, what exactly they offer to people.
I have to say, I have learnt art from brand business and learnt brand business from art. Artist should be entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs should be artists, I believe.
If the Hatch phase 1 was about ‘YOU’, what YOU want and what YOU are interested in, what YOU want to express, what sort of mean YOUR true self and YOUR nature would feel comfortable with. The way your idea stretches is from the inside to the outside egg world. And as a professional consumer, you learn about your taste with a discerning eye, what you love and what you don’t.
On the other hand, the Hatch phase 2 is about what ‘PEOPLE’ want, less about you, how you can help others, what you can offer, how the business runs, how the finance works, and what the most effective tool to deliver your message to people. In this case, the way your idea stretches is from outside to inside the egg world. As a professional producer, you learn about your competence, what you can do and what you can’t. Eventually Hatch phase 2 is for the sake of yourself as well. And this is why I reiterated this particular order. Full of oneself and self-objectification. Again, going through these two Hatch phases as quickly as possible, and laying down your own mix-match proportion that works for you/your audience matters. It is okay what you love and what you can don’t 100% match up. That is why I call it a mix-match. Eventually, you are your own unique mix-match.
With that in mind, going back to the story when the egg was in London, it wanted to push itself forward and challenge itself for real, on-site, down-to-earth experience to get our of a sheltered environment as well as witness something more special that would open up to one’s willing to explore with curiosity and that would crack my small world. For example, door-to-door sales, part-time focused group interviews, reaching out to various artists, et cetera. Tried to be down to earth.
But those experiences were not strong enough for me to get into Hatch phase 2. Because my ego was arrogantly stronger and more naive than expected. I thought my authentic, pure attitude or perspective on life should pay off because that is genuine, artistic, and noble which had been my biggest illusion. I realised that is not always convincing to others because That can NOT be proved...apart from myself. And what I have done is for my self-satisfaction.
Hang on, is self-satisfaction bad? It depends on where you wish to end your journey. If you are fine with a self-satisfied level, then you can stay where you are. However, if you wish to take you to the next phases, succeed in finding perfect mix-match proportions, and achieve something in the area you love, you need Hatch phase 2.
Also, you may want to ask several questions as I’ve done to myself. Is what you try to push forward stubbornness or persistence? What is more fulfilling to you, enjoying on your own or sharing what you enjoy with others? For me, I am still confused a bit whether what I pursue is... stubbornness or persistence as it doesn’t have a clear cut. But what I am sure now is I feel happy when contributing to others. I am open and appreciate what other people say about my work. I never get offended because that is the process of growth, the perfect hatch.
Finally, managing a RUclips channel has helped me to learn self-objectification. The process of independently presenting my work and getting feedback helped a lot in this aspect. It started functioning as an outlet of self-expression for the huge ego, turned into a testbed for self-objectification, and then truly became a valuable place for me balancing or mix-matching both worlds.
The bottom line for a strong ego is to try mix-match. No dichotomous thinking. Don’t mind pursuing art and money at the same time. Don’t juggle between what you love and what you can. They can coexist. They should coexist. Don’t pick one. Pick both of them. Please be an artist and entrepreneur. Please be a professional consumer and producer in your life. Learn from brands and art. Don’t seek out other people’s acknowledgement. All you need is to be honest about yourself and be Bad to keep pushing it forward. I will be here.
I still could sound naive and there could be other cracking enlightened moments in the future but this is my whole heart at the moment.
