    I've come across two different theories, one that says that these correlated orbits are evidence for another planet, another that overlays the orbits of all known objects in the region and shows so much variation that there is no correlation. It could just be selection bias.

    • @edvolve
      @edvolve Месяц назад +1

      Yes. True. The Cal Tech team feel that they have ruled out the selection bias, but none of it matters too much. If it exists, the Vera Rubin Observatory coming online in just a few months' time will find it. Truly, if Rubin doesn't find it within a year, it likely doesn't exist.

I just searched through all the old Nova videos on Planet Nine and this video doesn't exist on the Nova site. This is a recent, original Curiosity Stream documentary and not a repackaged Nova episode. How would Curiosity Stream be able to make a 4K up-scaled video from an old 720 p video anyway? Well, duh! Come to think about it, why would PBS license Nova content to Curiosity Stream so that Curiosity Stream could complete with PBS's own content? Double Duh!

    Q: "How many Pluto-like objects exist in our solar system?"
    A: (Perplexity AI): "The exact number of Pluto-like objects, or dwarf planets, in our solar system is unknown, but estimates suggest there could be hundreds or even thousands. Currently, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) officially recognizes five dwarf planets: Pluto, Eris, Ceres, Makemake, and Haumea124.
    Estimates for the number of potential dwarf planets vary:
    ----Up to 200 in the Kuiper Belt (the region beyond Neptune's orbit)
    ----Possibly over 10,000 in the region extending beyond the Kuiper Belt"

Try and tell me that Titan, or Ganymede, or Callisto, or Europa, or Io, or Triton aren't "planets" whether they orbit a gas or ice giant. What happens when we discover an exomoon that just happens to orbit a gas giant and is larger than Earth. Do we finally suck it up and admit the truth.

    Wouldn't JWST have an easier time finding such an object? If we have a general prediction of its location, even at that distance a super-earth should still be fairly bright in the infrared due to leftover internal heat.
    Most solar systems we've discovered tend to have a handful of gas giants and super-Earths in rather tight orbits to the star, it would certainly help explain why we have no apparent super-Earths and why the gas giants are so far out, if they had a near collision interaction that ejected all of the larger planets from from the inner orbits. Who knows, maybe our first 4 planets are bits and pieces of this hypothetical planet that got ripped away due to tidal forces causing a partial breakup if the interaction was close enough.

    • @vaakdemandante8772
      @vaakdemandante8772 Месяц назад

      It's not a theory, it's a conjecture and even then you should propose a mechanism of action i.e. how exactly does it cause ice ages?
      From what we already know an ice age can happen after a big enough asteroid hits the surface kicking so much dust into the air that ot then changes planet's albedo and hence surface temperature. Last ice age happened that way.

    Why don’t they just point the James Webb telescope in the general direction of the gravity disturbance, and why are we looking at a video made in the 90s

    Rather than something in our Solar system could it have been something very large, but it just came by, something like a small star.

    • @saquist
      @saquist Месяц назад

      That's correct. Just watch a video Mo day on the History and Future of the Solar Systems. The Fifth Gas Planet formed 9.4 AU between Saturn and Uranus
      One note in the video at 46 seconds says a number of Earth size planets formed among the ice Giants causing collisions with Uranus.
      My theory is that almost all planets formed in the Ice belt 4 or 5 AU out in the disk and over time disk torque and Jupiter moved earth, Venus and Mars into the area of 1 AU

      If other systems are anything to go by, what our solar system is missing is a "super earth".
      Mercury is interesting too .... is it the core remnant of something bigger?

    • @saquist
      @saquist Месяц назад

      @@TheHoveHeretic I think super Earth's occur when gas giants aren't present. A video I watched last week showed that asteroids in near circular orbits can't move into the inner solar system without passing through a "keyhole" around the vicinity of Jupiter. When that happens the get either accelerated out of the solar system or launched in the inner planets. The simulation is amazing!
      So I think Jupiter's happen most often but they normally migrate in the star unless a 2nd gas giant forms nearby to pull it back out as what happened to Jupiter. Without a Jupiter super Earth's can form.

    I admit having not watched this, only because I've seen several, and they have always been inconclusive. For me I would have to ask if there was, why have Transits not been seen, surely any planet orbiting the sun would have been spotted obscuring light from many of the billions of stars in the galaxy.
    Or maybe it's too small to be detected.

      You don't understand the vastness of space, do you?
      The new telescope cannot show you things by itself. You need to know where the planet is and then turn the telescope towards it.
      Also, they don't have the use of the telescope 24/7. There are lots of other research groups, researching other things. So you get your turn at the telescope..maybe a few hours a day or week.

    This is just a thought bubble from a largely ignorant science and cosmology fan..But is it possible for a planet to follow precisely the orbit of another planet for example the earth 180° apart on the elliptical... forever obscured by the sun and therefore visually unobservable and remain undetected. Just a thought...can someone enlighten me?

    • @australien6611
      @australien6611 Месяц назад +1

      No enlightenment required, thats a known theory and hard to disprove. The only problem is that it wouldn't explain the unusual orbits observed of some objects out past Neptune which is the main reason some people think its out there.

      @australien6611 thank you for the explanation...another thought...would it not be possible to leave a lingering satellite in the earth's orbit and simply wait..after 365.25 days and it's still there we'd know for certain surely one way or another. 😁
