You are a genius... This guy is awesome. Been looking at how to add the aux to the stereo in my Mazda3 Sport for ages. Just done it yesterday! You don't want to know how much my local car accessories unit tried to charge me for what turned out to be a 40 minute job...! Thanks brother.
It worked, amazing thank you. Theres also no need to drill a hole, there is a small gap in the top corners of the ash tray holder and the cable just fits through.
No need to drill the hole, in my case what i did was remove the small lightbulb in ashtray and it leaves you with a hole wide enough for cable to fit in and wiggle freely :) Btw thanks for the video!
The same cabel is still sold in Germany via Amazon. I used it on my Mazda 3 1.6 Gasoline, 2006 with a normal CD (no bose sound system, no cd changer) and it worked. I had a MEDIA button and when I plugged my phone in the AUX it recognises it as "AUX" and displays it on the screen. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the video it helped a lot! It was easy to follow and only took me about 15 minutes. Also I didn't have to drill a hole, I just ran the wire down from the back and put it through to the ashtray.
People that say you need to have 2006+ mazda 3 or it won't work, i tried this with 09/2005 Mazda 3 and it worked perfectly fine. I have Media button and no 6 disc CD button (apparently that might not make it work if it's there) after pressing Media it showed AUX and it played music. So if you have a late 2005 model there is high chance it will work. But 2003/4 will most likely not work
For anyone asking about the cord search " 3.5mm AUX Adapter Audio Cable Lead For Mazda 2 3 5 6 MX 5 CX 5 " I ordered mine from Wish but I also saw one on Amazon as well as a couple other sites.
Put mine in my 2005 Mazda 3 today and worked perfectly, my console does have the MEDIA button though so perhaps a late 2005 model? Great Video, thank you so much for sharing. No More Heart crappy 106.2 in the mornings for me!
Awesome video, used the cable you recommended (Goliton® AUX 3.5mm Cable) and it worked great in my 2006 Mazda 3. Personally, I didn't even have to drill a hole, there's a lil opening near the side/corners and I just stuck the wire through there.
Great guide! I used it to undo an iPod cable installation that didn't work with my iPod, now I can plug it into the aux cable :) My car had the aux built in, I just had to switch plugs.
Hey Man ! you save my life !. I´m doing more than 40.000km a yer and i´m hearing Podcast every days ! Many years looking hot to fit the aux system. I done/fices it on 4 minutes, but i saw your **** Dare vhader video many times hahaha Thanks very much my friend. *I Bougth it on amazon for 9,95€ Kings Regards for Dare Vadher xD
Yes mate, aweome video thank you. I have an '09 3 MPS and was desperate for mp3 compatability. Was just looking at some £300+ head units, but found the cable on Amazon for just over a fiver. Hope it works as easy as it did for you.
Thank you so much for this! Just ordered an Aux cable for my Mazda 3 2006, will be following this very closely when it arrived. I'm not very technical, i'll be ok doing this right? Anything I need to watch out for?
Just finished the install. Aux chord cost $5, needed a 3/8 drill bit ($3), and the install was easy (did take a bit of muscle pressing the drill to get the hole, as it's fairly thick plastic.) Would have been $150 at the local shop.
Great video. I ordered the Goliton cable linked to below. Following this guide let me get the job done in about 30 minutes (including drilling hole behind the ashtray). Ian, thanks for sharing.
I am in Canada and was trying to solve this exact problem for a 2005 Mazda 3. After viewing this I have shopped around in Future Shop/Best Buy/Source/Canadian Tire etc. and they do not sell these things. I was frustrated though it was really a blessing in disguise for I afterwards decided to shop online until I realized the equivalent Aux Cable in amazon.ca/.com as the one used in the video is not compatible for models older than 2006.
I have found www.gtacarkits.com/product/mazda-3-2004-2008-iphone-aux-kit to be the next best alternative - at least for me. It costs much more but it comes with such functionalities as will allow you to switch between audio files by using the control panels that come with the car. I am still deciding whether to make this investment :|
Great video! I have installed it easily and it works perfectly. BTW, I have bought a female connector, which I find more suitable. Thanks for your post.
Hey Ian, so i've installed an auxiliary cable for my Mazda protege 2003. However, when i press the Tape/MD button, it doesn't recognize my device. Any suggestions?
(2005 mazda 3s) I used this exact cable and after installing it seems not to work. how do I put it into aux function? Head unit has same exact plug in but unsure of how to work it exactly
www.ebay.com/itm/like/121995090263?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true Didn't end up working because of the model mazda I had, so I did a different deck in all.
hi i've tried to install the aux cable on my mazda 3 2006, but it doesn't works. i don't have the MEDIA button, but i have TAPE/MD. what should i do? do you think that's the problem ?
hey, i have 2005 mazda 3 and i installed the usb cable and pressed the media button (furthest to the right) and nothing happens, can you help me please?
when you did this did everything else work on the system such as the controls on the steering wheel and the cd stacker? (If this modle has one I know the maxx sports has a stacker)
Hello I know I am a bit late but I have Mazda 3 2007 with aux and everything but the connection is not really good, sometimes music can be only heard on one side of the car or the other or it just stops working. Do I need to buy another aux cable or I need to do something else than that?
Great video. Really shows the work needed to be done. Is there a cable like that (AUX) that connects behind but is not jack 3.5mm but female usb port. I would like to get basically the same thing but instead of connecting my phone I connect my USB (with music on it)? Anyone know what I need? I got Mazda 3 2006 1.4 sports TE. Thanks for help!
This is an awesome video. Especially love Darth Vader as cameraman.
LOl
loool right
I thought I was just imagining that.

Thats likely only on certain models
Newer first gen models
No need to drill the hole, in my case what i did was remove the small lightbulb in ashtray and it leaves you with a hole wide enough for cable to fit in and wiggle freely :)

Just installed the Aux cord in my daughters 2006 Mazda 3. Works awesome 👍
Thanks for the tip.

Thank you so much. It works perfectly and was so easy to install. Old car with new sound and no more frigging CDs
I just bought a Mazda 3 a few days ago. Thanks for this video. I can jam in my car now.
I did this today! Very helpful and awesome. Sound quality is superior (using Spotify), and chord works well.

Me too. Does it work on 2005 SP23 models with the MEDIA button (?)... because some on Mazda forums say it works only on models 2006 and up.
Sir, you must receive one medal... Or maybe two or three
Good video thanks for this, heads up to people that I managed it without drilling a hole, just means the ashtray won't fully shut
Great guide! I used it to undo an iPod cable installation that didn't work with my iPod, now I can plug it into the aux cable :)
My car had the aux built in, I just had to switch plugs.
Was Darth Vader filming?
Yes the British Vader
you instructions are brilliant, I just followed and did It to my mazda 3. thank you so much.
Hey Man ! you save my life !.

You just made my life a little bit sweeter pal. Thanks for this!
Brilliant! Just bought this car and may have to resort to this tutorial if my mechanic doesn't find a system that includes AUX. Thanks!

Thank you Darth ;)
Great video. I ordered the Goliton cable linked to below. Following this guide let me get the job done in about 30 minutes (including drilling hole behind the ashtray). Ian, thanks for sharing.
This looks awesome. Just one question to the audience: How many of you failed to assemble everything without some minor damages?
Just did this today. No damage done. Except for drilling the hole 😂
what is the quality like? is it ok? or is it a lot less quality than CD?

+Carlos Zavala where you ever able to install an aux cord?
I was wondering, sorry about the Darth Vader joke, I have a 07 Mazda 3 and I have an AUX jack in my arm rest but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
Or you could pop the center counsel open and plug in the cable where is says aux
Great video. Really shows the work needed to be done. Is there a cable like that (AUX) that connects behind but is not jack 3.5mm but female usb port.
