I've been listening to Sleepycast for the past 2-3 years, and re-listening to them from beginning to end on a loop whenever I'm cooking or commuting or falling asleep, etc. Yet despite hearing these podcasts so many times, it never fails to surprise me how much of a fever dream Cory is. His entire life and memories are just these fractured slithers of substance that he seems to just fill in the gaps for, filled with contradictions that he denies but also gives active voice to. The man's an engima of unparalleled proportion.
That's a very generous and overly nice way of putting it... EDIT: right on cue I heard 37:52 "Yeah, that's a good point, maybe you're just a fucking idiot, Cory."
I've met a "water person" at my job before. He's a maintenance guy (Janitor) and he looks like he's in his own little world. Staring into space, and when he talks to you, he just stares at you with a blank expression, no idea what he's talking about and it's scary as hell.
Dick Faggotson You know that the subtext of Shadow Over Innsmouth was race-mixing? It's neat. Lovecraft wrote it because he discovered that, to his horror, his great-grandmother had been... Welsh!
Corey ain't joking about water people. I lived near St. Louis for a bit on a consulting job when I did an internship for Monsanto. I stayed in Belleville Illinois, I bet Corey knows exactly what place I'm referring to. The water there was so toxic I bought nothing but bottled water for the two years I was there. The smell of the water alone made me gag when I would take my showers or do dishes. Sometimes it was alright but other times it smelled like pure amoebas. I learned about a famous water person named Susan Stone Aka David Stone Aka the dance of life dancer. Water people are real they walk among us
I have lived in Belleville my whole life. I think there was something wrong with your tap. Our water has always been fine. Let Cory speak for Missouri; Illinois' water is clean. I do know about that dance of life dancer character, with their obnoxious pink van. This town has it's quirks but it's not all that bad. Definitely a lot of water people in the whole general SE Missouri/SW Illinois area, I'll tell ya that.
One time I was at a bar in Missouri and I mentioned how I'm an out of towner and heard jokes about the water having weird qualities. The bartender chuckled at me and in broken slurred half-english he said to me "yur funny fur uh strynjurr. yew sawnd firsty muh frend" and he poured me a glass of tap water and didn't break eye contact once. I paid my tab and swiftly got the fuck outta there. That's how they get you, folks.

Hey as for your mom talking about conspiracies mine is almost exactly the same. I know about 9/11, but my mom goes on about the Boston Bombing and Sandyhook constantly because she's a 'paralegal' she knows the emergency routines that get avoided. Outside of that, she's been telling me about the rise in FEMA camps across our country. And while that's happening, states are slowly making being homeless illegal and they're either getting sent to jail or the new FEMA camps. Those camps have the plastic coffins that your mom and mine talk about. They're legitimately coffins and they save them for any deaths that occur within their walls and suddenly a death certificate surfaces. I dunno if our moms follow weird blogs or something but I sure as hell know that this isn't stuff the media covers. Yep
It was based in Louisiana. I'm from Louisiana I have a friend named Ethan. Based on a true story
The way corey describes his hometown just sounds like rock bottom from spongebob
Cory: *says something outlandish and ridiculous*
