Thanks so much for sharing this defense. I’m a white belt and the day after watching this I got my back taken by a purple belt in class. I remembered this simple technique and I was able to escape! I even rolled him back to the correct side and wiggled our of the back mount. A small win for me that meant a lot. Great instruction.
How long were you a white belt at that point?
this guy is a great instructor
I made a small editing mistake taking it from the video for the iPhone app and putting it up onto RUclips. It's a good video, so I'll get it up again in the next couple of days
I have used this 100 times since I watched this video. I forgot to drive my head to the mat so it was good to watch it again. Great instruction.
This is such an excellent instructional for me. I have a new teammate, high level wrestling background. although His Jiu Jitsu IQ is low, his wrestling acumen is high and his quickness to try to get to mount is fast. The details of stiff arming the leg, walking and turning will certainly help negate his attempt to mount or at the very least give me the opening to recover my guard. Great job guys!
Your videos help to solve my jits problems all the time. Thank you!
Sho Saburi - Does this include emotional and financial problems you might have?
chamboyette853 smh you have alot of ignorance and negativity
awesome video and excellent explanation! this is the exact same escape i use myself. one of my instructors uses the phrase "the choking hand points the way out" for it.
This guy is the best teacher featured.
Very nice. Also appreciate you showing them real speed in the end...great vid fellas...
lightbulb moment at 8:48
excellent! I started Judo a bit ago and a brown belt kept me in a rear mount the entire tiem we were ground sparring. Gonna try this out the next opportunity I get.
Wolverine is a great teacher!
you have no idea how happy these videos make me lol
Great lesson. Really needed that to supplement this week's class
Thank you Stephan, i like all the videos you did as you talk about basic and fundamental defenses. This one for example i watched it a few times and when in the gym a guy got on my back ready to choke me, i applied this technique and got out safely. :-) thank you and keep them coming.
This is such an awesome system! Well done!
Really nice technique breakdown!!! Keep them coming.
That last one was kewl
Gold. Thanks Stephan!
WELL done.
Great technique, Thanks Sir..
Cool! I know the defense for situations where your opponent isn't able to get the under hook on you (Saulo's reversal or the Home Alone Defense) so this is good complement for that should the back controller get that seat belt underhook in...
In the gi choke, is there a way you can just lift up on his elbow, and go for a wrist-lock with your other hand?
What about when his feet are locked together around my waist/pelvis area?
What if he has a tight figure 4 hook in?
Man, this seems like a risky escape to me, but i'll give it a try...especially that intial head dump
Great details!
Thanks a lot for this video!
Excellent! Excellent!
Great stuff!!!
oss .. I'l be using this
Excellent!
lean towards the side they have locked, try to elbow off their leg.
nice technique.
very nice!
Nice one .... Thanks
But what if he switches hooks... you can't always hold that arm tight there, especially in no gi. Suddenly you are back on the bad side...
Good shit brothers
nice! good to know
Amazing so grateful! Oss
That was sick ! Oss !
nice
Great video but watch the Gracie video on RNC mastery and you'll find out being on the weak side is far better than being on the strong side when you're the person doing the rnc. Which will eliminate the escape he is trying to do
How so? Doesn't this just mean you're already on the underhook side and don't have to roll your opponent?
That's what i thought the red tab was for. If you aren't an instructor it's just black.
how bout if your apponnent is a drugged out steroid freak with no pain?
So not taught.... simplistic/realistic/ very effective
Dudes calf is bigger than the guy teaching
A 20 year black belt with stripes that seems legitimate /:

Best rear naked choke escape IMHO. Simple and effective. The basic techniques are so important in martial arts e.g. mount escape, side control escapes, RNC escapes, Kesa Gatame/Reverse Kesa Gatame escapes, knee on belly escapes, North South escapes, submissions, etc...
Nice man , can't wait to put this into practice , that way against bigger guys I won't feel so panicked if they get my back
I all ready subscribe to your channel and love it. Stephan does Brandon have a channel of his own???
Who the hell gives this thumbs down? These guys show their go to moves. Amazing generosity. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this great vid.
I am a no-stripe, 4 month white belt. Watched this video yesterday and used it today with a purple belt in my gym. He even commented on it after class. I couldn't believe it worked for me right out of the gate. :)
My issue is guys dont understand how to use the full body and as you go through you see how Stephan does not use his other hand that is choking. I have to say very good stuff and thanks for sharing!!
thank goodness for this...my game was missing a back escape ^_^ thank you guys :)
This is the first one I learned back in the day from Professor Royce Gracie. I guess the fundamentals are fundamentals for a reason. Nice instruction.
Just observing on my journey, the positions within the escape, and how to advance to a better position prior to escape. Also, I turn my head away and create some distance as I pass the bottom leg hook, a good detail to help protect your neck.
Thank you for uploading this! Have not been submitted from back mount since seeing this.
Ok will try this next class. Very frustrating!
I thought the bars on the end of the black belt meant you had your own academy, and I thought Stephan didn't have his own academy?
lol is it real Bear Grills here?? deep respect man,,your videos make me real happy,,remaind me army drills when i was young:-))
Great simple powerful moves.and great instructor.hope u can share about mount and side control escapes.thanks
Do you think it would be possible for a arm drag at 11:08 if you didn't have a lapel grip Stephen?
I keep getting mounted every time I attempt this
What tips, videos, etc. would you suggest for white belts in their first month of BJJ?
More i wacth, more i find this technique very smart..
Thanks simple and effective
I was told it's for people that are teachers/professors
how does this differ to no gi back mount escape??
8:30 - 8:50 was an awesome way to get out.
More people should watch this video.
then you are going to the wrong gym
Thanks for this.
Best BJJ channel
great video
Had superb success with this, make sure my kids team have this nailed as solid basics
outstanding!
Nice! The escape at 8:00 is a life saver when the opponent is skilled and keeps that ear-to-ear connection while tightening the noose..
I would mention, however, that your biggest problem becomes your opponent's non-choking hand at that point.. you won't be able to turn if their non-choking hand is somehow preventing you from turning (or if their leg is over your shoulder, for example). Still, great video without overwhelming the viewer.
almost
awsome!
amazing technique, transition, and instruction thank you
Thank you so much!!! I really needed this. Intuitively I always did something similar, but it was much more work. I'm gonna practice this tomorrow in class :) It's not easy as a girl sometimes, but I looooove jiujitsu!!! Big thanks from Germany
Stephan has been posting this stuff for a very long time.
I am only a white belt and this worked great for me while fighting a very good brown belt...twice. Now I just have to learn to not have my back taken. Thanks so much for this great technique.
Nice explanation and demo from two knowledgeable guys who are also excellent communicators. I have been shown this it my school but Brandon was better at showing the leg and hip work. My instructor also favored stopping the movement out while lying on the leg and rolling around there in order to keep the leg pinned. In working with a very light partner I realized that this wasn't effective for him because he didn't weigh enough to pressure my bottom leg. Brandon's technique is better for the smaller guy.
Why can't he left up on the elbow and grab his hand for a wrist lock? Would that work or just be stupid?
I do a similar escape but on the over hook side (choking arm side), and I find that you avoid being mounted and if you keep the arm you are holding tight you end up in top side control instead of bottom half.
I was reffering to life in gerneral,,for instance ,,you are at a bus stop,,,or corrupt cops
326 likes to 1 dislike? I have a feeling that he clicked the thumbs down by mistake.
that is just awesome knowledge to have. Many props on another awesome update.
thank you so much for all your videos! they're so helpful.
Thank you for posting these videos Stephen, you're the man!!!
Wow, I never would have come up with this. This is amazing!
dope technique! Cheers!
Nice, Thanks for posting. GB
My favorite back escape video. 🤗🤗🤗
the walking and turning reminds me of a crab walk.
fascinating
