There is very little in common actually, this is a clean sheet of paper design. It has DNA from all of Daimler’s best products including the Mercedes Benz trucks from Europe.
@@islandman5802 Idk about all that. That cab and doors have Freightliner Cascadia all over it. Not to mention that I see some other things. They may have done some other things differently, but I totally understand why Daimler would have it to where it's similar to the Freightliner brand instead of being way off from their norm. I haul logs with one. The hood latches are not good. Other day I had the driver side steer tire blow on highway. Force was so strong it broke both hood latches and blew the hood open at 100kph. Fully open. Blew the headlight right out. Cracked the fender section on hood , and destroyed all the inner fender guard plastic. What a mess. Man, that is one sweet piece of iron! I even dig that color too! Don't know why it took me as long as it did to start recognizing Western Star as a brand in general. Specially it's classic models and the Low Max. Didnt really start resonating with me until the last decade or so but they really strike a stunningly classic profile that easily deserves a spot beside its competition.
I see Western Star hasn't really learned from the 4900 and their steel cab. Had high hopes they were going to get rid of the steel and stop all the corrosion issues.
I really had hoped they would extend the cab. I am 6 feet 6 inches tall, and the backrest of my seat is rubbing a hole into the back wall. The engineers did not think of tall people 🤔
Actually that's the first thing I really fell in love with on a Star and I'm not even being sarcastic. I'm a bit of a minimalist in the first place so I can understand that it might not be for everybody...just us hepcats! Lol. I kid, I kid...no but seriously. Lol
All the tests you brag about are great! Just make it a working cab when you test it. Slamming doors a million times- put the mirrors, window, and all switches in there. The components need to be tested as well
It has a universe difference from Cascadia in term of chassis. I should admit that it is reducing development costs so it makes the 49X most tested Western Star. 49X has hood suspension too.

six years designing a Cascadia cab onto the Western Star? Geez, you guys a re slow. Sad days for Western Star, as the brand identity gets watered down to the point you may just call it Freightliner.
Just modernize the dash in the 4900fxt and make the bonnet a bit taller from Australia and you'll have a sweet rig right there.. this looks crap.. and even worse to work on for us mechanics

I definitely see a lot of Freightliner with this new Western Star. I kinda expected that being that Daimler owns both brands.
Is still a good looking truck.

The best thing Western Star had to offer was legroom that truck clearly does not have any legroom at all
