I have just decided that Cliff Burton is immortal as evidenced by a middle school orchestra playing Orion in a concert. He and his music have come a long way.
The saddest part about it is that a huge majority of people in the world don’t even know who he is and have no understanding of what was lost when he died.
Stoned Mcgee Yup, Cliff era's composing skills were no joke. Makes you wonder what they could have accomplished with him, especially with orchestral cooperation.
Is this really a middle school orchestra? THIS IS FRIGGING AMAZING!!! My hat is off to the kids and the director for taking the time to arrange it for his kids.
@Sierra Baker: The performance is absolutely mind-blowing! Wish that my school’s orchestra had played “Orion”, instead of Vivaldi medleys and holiday remixes. Which instrument is your brother on?
Not that anyone asked, but the drummer is only playing the way he is because if he tried to match the style of Lars, it would probably throw off the kids when they're performing. Lars plays a following style, whereas in an orchestra (especially one this young), you want the drummer to be the beat keeper. He's adding a few small fills on a limited kit, and is having to play at a slower tempo as well. Asking him to play like Lars would drown out the kids, and he's mainly there to help keep them together.
Well said and thank you for saying it. Although nobody asked the critics of the drums on these comments needed to hear. Well done this is a fine performance.
Very much enjoyed this. Thank you. The drums were fine, kinda liked 'em myself. This is quite remarkable for middle school children. So, I say rock on. I truely love it. It would be a neat sorta montage piece in a movie, frankly. Nice job for sure.
Why is everyone complaining about the drums? They sound amazing! Guys, this is not a metal arrangment, is a classical one. You can't play like a fucking beast. I think they are what makes the rest of the orchestra sounds good.
I dont think ppl are complaining about the drums per se..he was doing fine...but it was not neccessary in this arrangement..they were to loud and overpowering the rest.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Bravo, Bravo This is it! This is what I heard in my head every time I listened to Orion way back in 1986 when Master of Puppets came out and went to see them live in Phoenix, Az Veterans Memorial Colloseum they opened for Ozzy Osbourne the "Ultimate Sin" tour.
Impressed, I'm glad I'll be joing a great group like this...Respects to the director..Haha, I'm hoping we can do another great cover of another great song...=]
james kernan First bass solo for example. He also simplified the interlude. Didn't play double bass though that is understandable since it's an orchestra.
I really don't get why people are complaining about the damn drums. Nobody's saying anything about the lack of intonation in the lead part. It's a middle school band they did pretty damn well all around if you ask me.
These kids did awesome for being in middle school, I’d like to hear them later on, when they were in high school, cuz if they’re that good then, imagine them later on!
Let the drummer free!!!!! 1000% great for a school orchestra!!!!! BTW.. I got something almost finished... Like Orion... In orchestra... and it will make you cry...
Let's remember that these are MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS, ok?? At most, the drummer is in what, 8th grade? So he's roughly 14 yrs old (give or take?) There are at least 30 kids on that stage and he's the lone percussionist so far as I can tell. It takes years to learn an instrument. It takes time for a 4 or 5 person band to put together a stage-ready performance of any given song. I can't imagine how much practice it took for this many middle school kids to pull off this rendition of Orion, which is an epic song. Was the percussionist playing at the level of Lars Ulrich? No, of course not... but he did stay in time and did a very nice job. He certainly didn't take away from the performance.
Everybody is bashing on the drummer over his playing..... But keep in mind the conductor is the one who set the tempo of the song not the drummer. Overall this was an excellent performance and I think Cliff a smiling down upon them every time this video is played and when they performed it live!
I think that including a drummer (on real drums!) was a mistake. He was playing not accurately. Also it may be not the best choice of a composition for an orchestra full of beginners ;)
Cliff’s bass solo sounds amazing on strings. It’s the musical equivalent of “they’d look good in a burlap sack”: That bass solo would sound good on a recorder
Drummer is a little out of flawlessness, but this perform of the outstanding song by the best composer of metal music is awesom!!! Stone me to the death, but its my attitude... God bless Cliff Burton!!!
or·ches·tra /ˈôrkistrə/ Noun A group of instrumentalists, esp. one combining string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections and playing classical music. The part of a theater where the orchestra plays, typically in front of the stage and on a lower level than the audience. If you didn't catch that i'll repeat, "A GROUP OF INSTRUMENTALS".
This was fantastic... I felt the first half of the song was brilliant, the second half arrangement could've been a little better, but still, wonderful.
I liked it ... the drums were slow yes, but in an orchestra the conductor sets the tempo, so blame him xD Epic when the violin get higher than the others at 2:01 and plays the riff afterwards
Idk I kinda liked it in the beginning but it overpowered the rest of the instruments exspecially during the quieter slower parts; there he should not have played
At the end I somehow appeared to be playing air violin. Thats so awesome, I wish we would play that with our school orchestra too. I think I'm gonna suggest it, is the full score available?
Respect to the conductor for walking into class and saying "right class, it's time for a musical education, we're going to learn a masterpiece..."
I have just decided that Cliff Burton is immortal as evidenced by a middle school orchestra playing Orion in a concert. He and his music have come a long way.
Бёртон жив!
I am here listening 8 years later in 2023...
The saddest part about it is that a huge majority of people in the world don’t even know who he is and have no understanding of what was lost when he died.
And this is why metallica is the biggest heavy metal band of all time
Stoned Mcgee Yup, Cliff era's composing skills were no joke. Makes you wonder what they could have accomplished with him, especially with orchestral cooperation.
Stoned Mcgee NO, CLIFF IS THE BEST
Cliff was the reason I play music
cliff. burton. only reason for lars and kirk of being anybodies

That dude with long hair playing the bass and banging his head! That's the kind of people we need on this planet!! \m/
The long-haired bassist is none other than Cliff, reincarnated 😎🤘
Is this really a middle school orchestra? THIS IS FRIGGING AMAZING!!! My hat is off to the kids and the director for taking the time to arrange it for his kids.
Ed Butdorf I have The Call of Ktulu arranged for a concert band. The score is in my Google Drive.
You can clearly hear that it's a middle school orchestra around the 2:00 minute mark
this is at my brother's concert. i really wanted to go but i had to work. thanks for posting this
@Sierra Baker: The performance is absolutely mind-blowing! Wish that my school’s orchestra had played “Orion”, instead of Vivaldi medleys and holiday remixes. Which instrument is your brother on?
I'm surprised at how many people have seen this video since I commented 12 years ago. He played viola in high school.
I love the bass players jamming out. You can tell they are definitely feeling something special during this. Bravo indeed!!

Also like many I am watching on a phone and is to small to see the kids. So good to let everyone know.
If Cliff Burton heard this... he'd give them a standing ovation.
Carlo YapQA He'd be playing with them.
Yeah he's stoked in heaven shining down on us in Orion.
I always say that's Cliff up there, not an archer.
Si senor...de acuerdo contigo...I agreee

CLIFFORD LEE BURTON ( 1962 - 1986 )
REST IN PEACE , BROTHER . . .
Since he is not -- may God rest his soul -- let us all stand and clap in Cliff's place.
Very much enjoyed this. Thank you. The drums were fine, kinda liked 'em myself. This is quite remarkable for middle school children. So, I say rock on. I truely love it. It would be a neat sorta montage piece in a movie, frankly. Nice job for sure.
Oh, gees I got goosebumps and a tear in my eye, this was extremely beautiful (especially the first half of the song)! 5/5 and favourited.
I cryed. Cliff Burton is very proud of you.
Thanks for this moment
Good interpretation. Very much appreciated coming from a middle school. To the bass player with the long hair- rock on! Play your heart out!,,
The cellos coming in after the drummer does the gong was 👌
Simply great. Good arrangement for a young orchestra. I imagine how hard were the rehearsals with the violinists. GOOD WORK!
The drums kill all other instrument on this.
But he was only in middle school, imagine what he sounds like now
Lars is turning in his wienerbread!
@@camerongfleming he’s saying that the addition of drums doesn’t mesh well the drummer himself is actually good
Yes, it's spoiling everything. He should have been put on a different type of percussion instrument.
Why is everyone complaining about the drums? They sound amazing! Guys, this is not a metal arrangment, is a classical one. You can't play like a fucking beast. I think they are what makes the rest of the orchestra sounds good.
this song, is in basic drum, but this guy totally destroy it
jpmentol But he fucked up the part on the first bass solo. It's not even a hard part.
This song is driven by drum beat. This guy does not feel it. Simply.
I dont think ppl are complaining about the drums per se..he was doing fine...but it was not neccessary in this arrangement..they were to loud and overpowering the rest.
They pulled it off beautifully. Great job.🤘👏💜
Dudes on stand up bass are killing it
that's really well whoever did this good job Cliff Burton would be extremely proud ue all should be proud of yourselves

Mcatarto I'm on it.
holy crap, this brought tears to my eyes AWESOME!!!!
Classical music and metal music go so great together!
lose the drums and would be so much better.
Still better than Lars
Yes indeed my first thought, the drums kill it
79ago no
I agree, loose the drums...
Nope, he is actually a rather good drummer.
Cliff if u r watchen .. this one is for u .. R.I.P
This is so beautiful... in tears.

I started crying because it made me realize it's my last year in band because I'm a senior and this is my favorite song on guitar
I like there they do the first bass solo.
This is epic as fuck when a middle school orchestra plays one of your songs !!

I don't see where the drummer was off. remember he is dealing with a slower paced orchestra.

The fact that they actually played this is a instant 5 star.
This would of been awesome if it was on their S@M album!!! Bravo 👏
orion is a legendary song even more so being an orchestra
amazing except for the drums I must say
no need for drum for sure

@ "Firat"... Yeah, I'm sorry but "Orion" requires drums.
im fairly young myself buy Orion is a fairly easy song on drums
The drummer helps keep the beat, I think it sounds good for being in middle school

Right on young ones, keep rocking. 👏👏👏
Badass

The drummer should’ve played half notes on the hi hat and ride instead of quarter notes in the intro, but besides that this is absolutely breathtaking
_precisely_ what I wanted to hear.
This was fantastic... I felt the first half of the song was brilliant, the second half arrangement could've been a little better, but still, wonderful.
I wish orion on s&m2
That was amazing!!! The drums were a bit too loud in the mix, yes, but he was easier to follow than Lars!!! LOL
great job
Even with some issues, this sounds so nice.
Conductor was probably a metalhead growing up who worked his entire life to arrange Orion into an orchestral piece.
Wow this came out really well!
Yeah, the gong was super loud, but besides that is was great
Great effort,!Thank You! only wish that the record was a little better to enjoy the supreme sound that You guys are palying!!!
go to listentoyoutube. com and paste the URL for this video into the bar. it lets you download the audio
Sounds great! I wish the drums were a bit less overbearing. If he had used brushes it would have been just right.
Bravo!
Cliff Burton = Bach of Metal.
nicely done
I liked it ... the drums were slow yes, but in an orchestra the conductor sets the tempo, so blame him xD
Epic when the violin get higher than the others at 2:01 and plays the riff afterwards
I wish I was there so I could jump on the stage to play that harmonic part so bad.
That's cool as shit. That would work in a game of thrones scene.
Amazing
Think Cliff would appreciate this
Sounds like it belongs in a Conan (the Barbarian) movie.
thi is a awesome cover
Just hillarious..
Legendary!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
Is that Lars? On the drums ?
This is so good but, who put the drummer behind a bunch of pots and pans?
Mother of Cliff :') that's incredible
franticmetal What about Jan Burton?
oh yeah! lol! Go geezer! (Its a double bass - they sound awesome when played right)
And it only takes one drum, that kid is driving it. Congrats.
The drummer is so wooden, otherwise a masterpiece.
Love it!
Dang this is a middle school? I wondered why there were children in the audience lol I would love to hear a professional orchestra do this song.
They play awesome but they have to have a better sound record.
Word!
Cool!!!
I'm not a classical music fan, but even I can feel that the drummer was not necessary at all
Idk I kinda liked it in the beginning but it overpowered the rest of the instruments exspecially during the quieter slower parts; there he should not have played
He was desperately trying to drown out the sound of young immature violin players :D
OK, he was trying to impress somebody... maybe his gf.
At the end I somehow appeared to be playing air violin.
Thats so awesome, I wish we would play that with our school orchestra too.
I think I'm gonna suggest it, is the full score available?
Cadjem I wish more schools would play stuff like this, it would be awesome
@deamondeathstone1
True, they weren't amazing(the drums),but the beat helped to carry the song without taking away the metal components.
Drums are same like in Orion
All of you forgot that Lars cant play drums
Thats why drums sucks :D
Yea well your career is going well I see
LMFAOO. Knew someone would bring up Lars
