Yes, as was common in Trinidad in those years, many patterned themselves after the great, Ramcharitar or Aranjuez, Trinidad. Among them, the late Isaac Yankaran. What is truly astounding is the tonal quality of the dholak. Nicks was one of the best and he and I had some great times although he was much elder than I. Tarzan was also a member of the great Naya Zamana orchestra of which I was a member.
You are the listening to the voice of my food friend, Tarzan Shah Mohammed, a former member of the famed Naya Zamana Orchestra of which I was a member. The dholak is being played by a man famous for it's tonal quality, Nicks Nanan of Longdenville. Are there anymore songs by this great singer ?
In the late 1960s and early 1970s he was a popular classical singer, I'm sure someone out there has some of his songs.
Sounds like ramcharitar to me. Whoever it is, the song is great.
