bakengangsta yeah. Thing is, like he said, box breathing only does 30% more. I don't think they will make weapons any stronger than this one, but not many people have it. So, I don't think we have to worry about things getting stale in PvE. In PvP though, seeing nothing but Vigilance Wing and Graviton Lance is getting very stale. They have become crutch weapons for bad PvP players. Hopefully Forsaken gives us weapons in PvP that will surpass those two.
have you discovered its usefulness potentially in pvp yet? I expected it to not be the same but I think they should've nerfed the base damage of whisper if they really wanted to , this tackles the legitimacy of box breathing
Lucas Corley I don't mean to imply it that way. I just think those 2 weapons are overused in PvP and want to see more than 2 weapons in Crucible. That was my point. I do think there are a lot of terrible PvP players though, including myself. I do try to use variety though, which is sorely lacking in PvP. It's just boring seeing the same 2 weapons all the time.

(TL:DW) Bounce Sleeper shots if you're a freak that can calculate the ricochet angles, use Whisper if you never miss, or just use Darci if you don't want to sit through 8 hours of Cabal public events on your day off. Datto is also worried that certain weapons like Whisper and Midnight Coup are so good that people won't use anything else.

WotM was pretty fun. Now that I think about this more, I wouldn't say it was my favorite, but it was a great time with my friends. Plus the music in it was great.
I don't think it will get nerfed for at least a little while. Bungie had to have known that by bringing back this weapon in its un-nerfed state that it was going to need to stay like that for a while, if not forever. Nerfing it so soon would be... probably not good.
Datto I hope it's never nerfed and they just develop other powerful options like we use to have. I would rather have several super strong weapons than stay where we are. Looks like they (Bungie), don't plan on nerfing weapons into the ground (see Prometheus Lens) like they used to. Shane Bell Ah, but that's not true. The Prometheus lens wasn't nerfed. There was a bug that decreased the TTK in crucible which made the gun vastly unbalanced.
Lyrical InsanityOvev yeah, but it feels like an overcorrection which is basically what a nerf is. When they fixed the bug, I don't think that weapon was intended to be so weak. I haven't used it much since they fixed the bug, because the weapon is just terribly weak. I pretty much hate that they "fixed" it. I prefer stupidly strong weapons.

I love you Datto but honestly you don’t sound the least bit excited about any of this recently. If this were D1 you’d immediately hop in some heroic strikes and see how fast you can melt them and you’d always be pretty energetic about being insanely powerful. Now it just seems you’re really jaded and skeptical of the future, when you should just enjoy it all. I can’t recall you ever saying the words “this is fun” in a video in a long time and it’s really disheartening. If i could offer some advice it’d be to stop worrying about things like “how will they top this in the future” etc, and just have fun with the op weapons! Enjoy the new bungie that doesnt nerf good stuff and make cool videos like Gladd and his team do like you used to in the old days! I know you like to say all the challenge vids and stuff have been made already but that’s totally untrue, not to mention we’d still watch them even it that was the case. I hope to see some of that excited Datto energy that i subbed for when Forsaken releases. I miss hearing you actual be excited about things. I think its because he is excited for Forsaken that he is worried. Loot games tend to suck when there is no variety in the weapons being used. If Whisper is still this good in September the new raid might get blitzed because of its raw power. Not to mention Midnight Coup being insanely good and dominating the primary slot for any PvE content. If things don't change loot will be boring again. I think we need people like Datto to approach things skeptically and ask the real question about whether or not things are good for the games long term health and how enjoyable it'll be in the future.

He sounds like he always does to me. Players like Datto will always worry about "how will they top this". That's the nature of being a min maxer and theorycrafter. He was worried about stuff like this in Destiny 1 as well, with things like ghorn. He's not sad about it or anything, it's just a concern. I think you're reading a bit too much into things.
Luckily bungie aint dumb, Whisper is staying as a heavy sniper, while Darci and Ikelos SR are moving to the special slot. This lets you still use something like a rocket if you use Darci so it *can* be beaten in the future if the boss designs in the Keep of Voices are good. I guess Bungie wanted to make a sniper that really felt right as a heavy weapon and the only thing that could really fit their ideal was a (technically) stronger Black Hammer.
Luis you're gravely misinformed, Bungie has already stated that the majority of shotguns, snipers, and fusions are switching slots and all breach-charge GLs are becoming specials with fighting lion as a primary. If you wish to say something with authority please go off of true information.

The issue with darci I didn't hear you mention is having to keep the reticle on target to receive the bonus damage. Easy enough with a giant boss like Argos, but difficult on smaller/squirrelier targets.
Datto I share your opinion on powerful weapons being potentially bad for the game in the long run. Destiny 1 undoubtably had the issue of certain weapons being so good nothing else that followed was worth even bothering with and eventually it resulted in Bungie having to just straight up stop those weapons from progressing in power and leaving them behind or nerfing them. Hopefully they find a new middle ground and that with Forsaken boss fights or more importantly the Raid is built around avoiding these weapons being the best option, a moving target or small damage windows and so on. Good points about loadouts! One thing I recently thought about with midnight coup and other Y1 weapons, that may make Y2 weapons king, is that Y1 weapons can not be modded once the new mod system is here. So weapons of the future will be able to be as good or better than Midnight Coup, if the mod system is as exciting as we hope it is.

From what I have seen the main issue has been that the event that spawns the Whisper Quest is very rare to get. Seen stories on the Bungie forums where people say they waited hours upon hours for the event to start just so they can attempt the quest only to be met with yet another Cabal public event. If Bungie increased the likelihood of this event happening to just remove the cabal event entirely then you will probably find more people with it in future.
so with the changes to Rally Barricade, you won't have to de-scope to reload, it gives you ammo every 2-3 seconds, so DARCI might get higher numbers, and now that WoL is back with Commander Sentinels, damage numbers get crazy. Can we get a D2 WoL damage buff video pls?
We could do with some fast moving bosses to help encourage other heavy weapon usage. Both Alak-Hul and the Shield Brothers made some effort to reduce how long players can fire off their sniper shots.
Here’s how I see it. Sleeper: the yellow bar (non boss) destroyer Darci: the 10 second sprint is where it shines. Even if you slip up a bit. Whisper: oh, he stands still? Well soon he won’t stand at all.
I dont think bungie would nerf the whisper if I'm honest. I know they're known for it, but remember they said not long ago that they didnt wanna nerf weapons anymore but rather bring other weapons up. If something is overperforming, they wanna make other weapons be on a similar level. I hope they stay true to this, and i hope the upcoming stream demonstrates their plans for that as guns like graviton and vigilance are kinds dominating crucible right now. Im hoping the stream shows that theyre planning on super buffing everything else and these worries of only 1 gun being used for the next year go out the window bc bungie does good things for weapon balance. May be a bit wishful thinking though
If that was true everything would have had to be buffed because of how broken OP the prometheus lens was when it first came out. I mean EVERYONE was using that weapon in crucible until Bungie nerfed it down to being one of the worst exotics in the game.

I think one thing that is worth mentioning is that we know the Whisper is remaining in the Heavy slot, come Forsaken. While we don't know the case for D.A.R.C.I, it's safe to say that it'll be swapped to the Special slot. With it in the Special slot, it could have more follow ups in damage with Rocket Launcher and Liner Fusions.
Tell your "friend" that both and Sleeper, and EP sniper are all viable. Cluster rockets are viable. Sweet business and coldheart are viable. All these things do get the job done. But the name of the game is O P T I M A L D P S. If you want the best of best, DARCI is still right up there.
I'm nearly done with the sleeper quest and now I'm hesitant to get it cause of that recent NERF and I do have darci from year 1 but should I go for whisper or is sleeper a better choice?
Golden Jaws sleeper simulant never had more dps then black spindle/ whisper/ hammer. It just determined if the boss had a crit and how much the bosses move to hit your shots.
Hey Datto, could you make a Nightfall guide on whatever next week's Nightfall is because there are a lot of people who want to Masterworked Solstice armor who may have never grinded Prestige Nightfall before.
They could counter act that by making specific weapons more viable in certain situations if a game, like making a boss move around too much for a sniper to consistently hit shots easily, or make mechanics that force other weapons types to just be better, like making a boss more vulnerable to specific weapons types
So right now, I think Bungie needs to focus on making raid bosses that require movement and active DPS over "DPS phases" for whisper to not be optimal. At that point it opens up the options for weapons to focus on long term DPS uptime over burst phases. I would perfer this over nerfing whisper, but I think it may need a nerf possibly for ammo capacity, I want to keep the OG white nail, but making it to where our inventory for the sniper to be like 9 and force us to be good with the weapon to have that DPS will help I think.

You brought a very good point, the Whisper is basically a weapon you would get at the end of a game, this weapon feels like it should’ve been a year 3 Destiny 2 Exotic. It’s like the final form of the best sniper rifle to every release and considering the fact it came out in Year 1 Destiny 2 just like the Black Hammer in Year 1 Destiny 1 they are going to nerf it. They are gonna nerf it and I will be pissed because I just got mine yesterday, late I know but Godamn, after all that work to get it, it’s gonna hurt me to see it get nerf.
They won’t nerf it, there’d be no point. They made this thing with the soul purpose of making a very powerful weapon to use because we demanded loot that felt special, desirable and exotic. Now we are starting to get concerned that it will beat future loot. What the hell else do we expect them to do? Bungie already official stated they are starting to make more powerful weapons and raise everything else and when everything is super good, people will deem it “too good” and whine so much that Bungie nerf it, only for us to get mad and demand buffs again. It’s just a stupid cycle which I’m surprised some people don’t see.
Considering how the ikelos shotgun is becoming a secondary that means the sniper probably will be too, and considering how fast you can get off darci shots you could then switch to ikelos sniper which could compete with whisper potentially.
One thing to keep in my mind abkut Whisper's strength relative to other weapons going toward is thst while most snipers are being moved out of the heavy slot, Whisper is remaining a Power Weapon in Forsaken

RNG zus exactly. Why DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A GOOD ASS WEAPON. It's so fucked because the reason everyone dislikes bungo is because how weak we feel in the game (ttk) (exotics) uhhh I hate some of the voices in the destiny community.
The trailer for the new weapon system stream showed us that you can equip he EP shotgun and Whisper at the same time so new weapons have to do a lot to de throne them. The best load out might be Midnight, EP shotgun, and whisper.
I still dislike the face they still capped off damage when you're a higher level than your enemy. I get that they don't want you to steamroll through, but that is what difficulty settings are for damn it!! destiny may be a first person shooter but it's also an RPG game and every single rpg (at least the ones I have played) let you steamroll through low levels. Like in FF12, once you got to a high enough level beyond your enemy, they'd do freaking 0 damage to you! Oh yea, let's not forget the fact that the enemies don't have this limiter. Thier damage isn't capped. They'd steam roll us if they are higher. It's not fair if the guardians are being held back while the bad guys are not. T~T
On the other side we've been fighting a lot of bosses that are relatively stable, they are basically bullet targets in a firing range. Forsaken might change the raid system where there are more bosses that move around more like in strikes with their damage phase. If bosses end up moving around their crit boxes will be much more mobile than current which will be a greater problem for Whisper compared to more consistent damage weapons.
They've brought way more than 2 or 3. Half of the DLC weapons have been returns. Jade Rabbit, Telesto and Crimson (it's literally Red Death but with a different 3D model) in Curse of Osiris & Sleeper Simulant, SUROS Regime, and Whisper in Warmind. You also have a lot of Exotics that basically never left, since they were in vanilla D2 (MIDA, Hard Light, etc).
Black Hammer was made in a time where bungie wasn’t really looking down the long game, and it ended up making most content and loot irrelevant. We’re in a different place now and they specifically brought back this exact weapon at this time at it’s full power, I think they’re making content with it in mind and it will have its place.
cwj2733 wotm is waaaaay better then darci. It’s like saying “I’m gunna use hunger of crota over ghorn” in Croats end. With box breathing you can melt strike bosses in seconds. Prestige Argos as well.
I was sad that borealis wasn’t in the damage comparison in the first video and now not the second. Borealis has double damage if breaking the same elemental shield of the enemy and can also infinitely keep the buff by using Luna factions or by shade stepping. Is it because it’s PlayStation exclusive?
Darci will be able to be paired with a power weapon (cluster rockets) while whisper will stay power slot so I think this could balance out a little more.
Why don't you just have some confidence that they're trying right now to make us feel powerful again. Miserable ending, not looking at the positive of potentially having a range of really powerful exotics in the future and instead just moaning
This is probably too particular of a scenario to test, but what about Borealis with Ionic Return active? Say you pop a minotaur shield in Argos and swap off of Borealis (it will keep Ionic Return active till you reload) once damage phase starts you hunker into a Luna rift or rally barricade and unload (since you aren't reloading then theoretically every bullet will be effected by Ionic Return) Is this possible? If so, what would it deal as far as damage?
I really hope you get to play with the new Borealis on pc pretty soon. That double damage, basically for free, when you can add ammo directly to the mag without reloading, is pretty spicy.

Dude nobody is complaining. Everyone is just saying that they don't want WotW and M Coop to be what they use for the next year of Destiny 2 because its the best. If Bungie creates competitors, great. If they bring these items down to par of other weapons, fine. We just want whatever is best for the game.
I feel whisper was added with the new weapon slotting system coming with Forsaken in mind. With that, I think we'll have to wait and see exactly what happens. We already know Box Breathing is being nerfed to only affect the first shot, so the 30% extra DPS we currently see on Whisper will go down to the first shot dealing 30% extra damage, and all following shots dealing the dps of the unmasterworked version. We know Whisper is staying in the power slot, while all other snipers get moved to kinetic/energy. Depending on how buffs/nerfs go with the release of Forsaken, it's possible that a Darci + linear fusion for example might be able to outshine just using whisper; I can definitely see linear fusions getting a large buff considering they're only a bit higher damage than snipers currently, but will occupy a (supposedly) more powerful slot. I think we'll just have to wait and see exactly what happens. With so many changes coming with forsaken to weapons and loadouts it's probably too early to get *too* worried about the state of things
I'm guessing they thought by making the whisper exotic but with the original black hammer perks, it would be both a very powerful option and self-limiting. I'm sure they will release some new exotics that are actually better to use for certain encounters -- looking at you, touch of malice -- that would warrant the swap. You also hit the nail on the head about consistent crits. Whisper becomes outclassed quickly if you don't land crits consistently. I do wish that they would buff up the base damage of sleeper a bit. Maybe make a direct hit do the damage that combined beams currently do and then split that damage up if the beam splits. It would make more sense, and would reward precision. Would also make it a more viable contender vs whisper and darci.
I'm interested to see what changes once we get the weapon slot changes like the week before Forsaken. Cuz if ikelos sniper goes to secondary then you could have someone run tractor and shoot that and then switch to whisper once you've run out of ammo. Datto you still think whisper will be a problem for the game once those changes come into play?
Couldnt they make raid bosses without crit point/having crits only available for a few seconds be a way to work around whisper? the gun is souly relient on crits, so if you take away or restrict that option, but suddenly becomes less good
Am I the only one wondering why you kept mentioning hammers, but not following up with Celestial Nighthawk? Did you take this into account or it just didn't come to mind? One of the most popular optimum dps strategies is creating a pile of orbs by spamming tethers then having multiple solar hunters alternating golden gun, then rocket launcher up to 5 times each. I can't recall the exact damage numbers for this strat though.
I am hopeful that Whisper could potentially be a teaser for how strong some of the exotics in Forsaken will be. If not, then we will be stuck with using it forever because they are allowing year 1 weapons to be raised to year 2 levels. We'll just have to see what Forsaken brings.
I think what Datto might also be saying at the end of the vid is that having a weapon like Whisper is gonna repeat the same things happened in Destiny 1 with having the Gally. For solo players that LFG a lot tends to end up running across a lot of posts that say "MUST HAVE GALLY!" which leaves out a lot of people who could get the gun based off RNGesus. I agree with him on every point but I'm hoping that Bungie make more guns that has value Like EP shotty and Whisper. We don't need any more nerfs to anything no more

I haven't used it much since they fixed the bug, because the weapon is just terribly weak. I pretty much hate that they "fixed" it. I prefer stupidly strong weapons.

I've been getting genuinely annoyed with destiny 'Pros' calling it a black spindle remake.
I love you Datto but honestly you don’t sound the least bit excited about any of this recently. If this were D1 you’d immediately hop in some heroic strikes and see how fast you can melt them and you’d always be pretty energetic about being insanely powerful. Now it just seems you’re really jaded and skeptical of the future, when you should just enjoy it all. I can’t recall you ever saying the words “this is fun” in a video in a long time and it’s really disheartening.
If i could offer some advice it’d be to stop worrying about things like “how will they top this in the future” etc, and just have fun with the op weapons! Enjoy the new bungie that doesnt nerf good stuff and make cool videos like Gladd and his team do like you used to in the old days! I know you like to say all the challenge vids and stuff have been made already but that’s totally untrue, not to mention we’d still watch them even it that was the case. I hope to see some of that excited Datto energy that i subbed for when Forsaken releases. I miss hearing you actual be excited about things.
Leave the worrying to Bungie and with the depth that Forsaken seems to have, hopefully you’ll look and sound happier and have plenty of guides/interesting videos make in September :)

I think its because he is excited for Forsaken that he is worried. Loot games tend to suck when there is no variety in the weapons being used. If Whisper is still this good in September the new raid might get blitzed because of its raw power. Not to mention Midnight Coup being insanely good and dominating the primary slot for any PvE content. If things don't change loot will be boring again. I think we need people like Datto to approach things skeptically and ask the real question about whether or not things are good for the games long term health and how enjoyable it'll be in the future.

Luckily bungie aint dumb, Whisper is staying as a heavy sniper, while Darci and Ikelos SR are moving to the special slot. This lets you still use something like a rocket if you use Darci so it *can* be beaten in the future if the boss designs in the Keep of Voices are good. I guess Bungie wanted to make a sniper that really felt right as a heavy weapon and the only thing that could really fit their ideal was a (technically) stronger Black Hammer.

The issue with darci I didn't hear you mention is having to keep the reticle on target to receive the bonus damage. Easy enough with a giant boss like Argos, but difficult on smaller/squirrelier targets.
Datto I share your opinion on powerful weapons being potentially bad for the game in the long run. Destiny 1 undoubtably had the issue of certain weapons being so good nothing else that followed was worth even bothering with and eventually it resulted in Bungie having to just straight up stop those weapons from progressing in power and leaving them behind or nerfing them.
Hopefully they find a new middle ground and that with Forsaken boss fights or more importantly the Raid is built around avoiding these weapons being the best option, a moving target or small damage windows and so on.

Good points about loadouts! One thing I recently thought about with midnight coup and other Y1 weapons, that may make Y2 weapons king, is that Y1 weapons can not be modded once the new mod system is here. So weapons of the future will be able to be as good or better than Midnight Coup, if the mod system is as exciting as we hope it is.

From what I have seen the main issue has been that the event that spawns the Whisper Quest is very rare to get. Seen stories on the Bungie forums where people say they waited hours upon hours for the event to start just so they can attempt the quest only to be met with yet another Cabal public event.
If Bungie increased the likelihood of this event happening to just remove the cabal event entirely then you will probably find more people with it in future.

so with the changes to Rally Barricade, you won't have to de-scope to reload, it gives you ammo every 2-3 seconds, so DARCI might get higher numbers, and now that WoL is back with Commander Sentinels, damage numbers get crazy. Can we get a D2 WoL damage buff video pls?

We could do with some fast moving bosses to help encourage other heavy weapon usage. Both Alak-Hul and the Shield Brothers made some effort to reduce how long players can fire off their sniper shots.

I dont think bungie would nerf the whisper if I'm honest. I know they're known for it, but remember they said not long ago that they didnt wanna nerf weapons anymore but rather bring other weapons up. If something is overperforming, they wanna make other weapons be on a similar level. I hope they stay true to this, and i hope the upcoming stream demonstrates their plans for that as guns like graviton and vigilance are kinds dominating crucible right now. Im hoping the stream shows that theyre planning on super buffing everything else and these worries of only 1 gun being used for the next year go out the window bc bungie does good things for weapon balance. May be a bit wishful thinking though

I think one thing that is worth mentioning is that we know the Whisper is remaining in the Heavy slot, come Forsaken. While we don't know the case for D.A.R.C.I, it's safe to say that it'll be swapped to the Special slot. With it in the Special slot, it could have more follow ups in damage with Rocket Launcher and Liner Fusions.

Tell your "friend" that both and Sleeper, and EP sniper are all viable. Cluster rockets are viable. Sweet business and coldheart are viable. All these things do get the job done. But the name of the game is O P T I M A L D P S. If you want the best of best, DARCI is still right up there.

Golden Jaws sleeper simulant never had more dps then black spindle/ whisper/ hammer. It just determined if the boss had a crit and how much the bosses move to hit your shots.

They could counter act that by making specific weapons more viable in certain situations if a game, like making a boss move around too much for a sniper to consistently hit shots easily, or make mechanics that force other weapons types to just be better, like making a boss more vulnerable to specific weapons types

So right now, I think Bungie needs to focus on making raid bosses that require movement and active DPS over "DPS phases" for whisper to not be optimal. At that point it opens up the options for weapons to focus on long term DPS uptime over burst phases. I would perfer this over nerfing whisper, but I think it may need a nerf possibly for ammo capacity, I want to keep the OG white nail, but making it to where our inventory for the sniper to be like 9 and force us to be good with the weapon to have that DPS will help I think.

It’s more than likely going to get nerfed. You brought a very good point, the Whisper is basically a weapon you would get at the end of a game, this weapon feels like it should’ve been a year 3 Destiny 2 Exotic. It’s like the final form of the best sniper rifle to every release and considering the fact it came out in Year 1 Destiny 2 just like the Black Hammer in Year 1 Destiny 1 they are going to nerf it. They are gonna nerf it and I will be pissed because I just got mine yesterday, late I know but Godamn, after all that work to get it, it’s gonna hurt me to see it get nerf.
They won’t nerf it, there’d be no point. They made this thing with the soul purpose of making a very powerful weapon to use because we demanded loot that felt special, desirable and exotic. Now we are starting to get concerned that it will beat future loot. What the hell else do we expect them to do? Bungie already official stated they are starting to make more powerful weapons and raise everything else and when everything is super good, people will deem it “too good” and whine so much that Bungie nerf it, only for us to get mad and demand buffs again. It’s just a stupid cycle which I’m surprised some people don’t see.
Considering how the ikelos shotgun is becoming a secondary that means the sniper probably will be too, and considering how fast you can get off darci shots you could then switch to ikelos sniper which could compete with whisper potentially.

The trailer for the new weapon system stream showed us that you can equip he EP shotgun and Whisper at the same time so new weapons have to do a lot to de throne them. The best load out might be Midnight, EP shotgun, and whisper.
I still dislike the face they still capped off damage when you're a higher level than your enemy. I get that they don't want you to steamroll through, but that is what difficulty settings are for damn it!!
destiny may be a first person shooter but it's also an RPG game and every single rpg (at least the ones I have played) let you steamroll through low levels. Like in FF12, once you got to a high enough level beyond your enemy, they'd do freaking 0 damage to you!
Oh yea, let's not forget the fact that the enemies don't have this limiter. Thier damage isn't capped. They'd steam roll us if they are higher. It's not fair if the guardians are being held back while the bad guys are not. T~T
Destinys too small of a game too do that
On the other side we've been fighting a lot of bosses that are relatively stable, they are basically bullet targets in a firing range. Forsaken might change the raid system where there are more bosses that move around more like in strikes with their damage phase. If bosses end up moving around their crit boxes will be much more mobile than current which will be a greater problem for Whisper compared to more consistent damage weapons.

They've brought way more than 2 or 3. Half of the DLC weapons have been returns. Jade Rabbit, Telesto and Crimson (it's literally Red Death but with a different 3D model) in Curse of Osiris & Sleeper Simulant, SUROS Regime, and Whisper in Warmind.
You also have a lot of Exotics that basically never left, since they were in vanilla D2 (MIDA, Hard Light, etc).
Black Hammer was made in a time where bungie wasn’t really looking down the long game, and it ended up making most content and loot irrelevant. We’re in a different place now and they specifically brought back this exact weapon at this time at it’s full power, I think they’re making content with it in mind and it will have its place.

I was sad that borealis wasn’t in the damage comparison in the first video and now not the second. Borealis has double damage if breaking the same elemental shield of the enemy and can also infinitely keep the buff by using Luna factions or by shade stepping. Darci will be able to be paired with a power weapon (cluster rockets) while whisper will stay power slot so I think this could balance out a little more.

This is probably too particular of a scenario to test, but what about Borealis with Ionic Return active?
Say you pop a minotaur shield in Argos and swap off of Borealis (it will keep Ionic Return active till you reload) once damage phase starts you hunker into a Luna rift or rally barricade and unload (since you aren't reloading then theoretically every bullet will be effected by Ionic Return)

I really hope you get to play with the new Borealis on pc pretty soon. That double damage, basically for free, when you can add ammo directly to the mag without reloading, is pretty spicy.

Dude nobody is complaining. Everyone is just saying that they don't want WotW and M Coop to be what they use for the next year of Destiny 2 because its the best. If Bungie creates competitors, great. If they bring these items down to par of other weapons, fine. We just want whatever is best for the game.
One good thing relating to future balancing of the whisper is that it will remain a power slot weapon and won't move into energy slot.
I feel whisper was added with the new weapon slotting system coming with Forsaken in mind. With that, I think we'll have to wait and see exactly what happens.
We already know Box Breathing is being nerfed to only affect the first shot, so the 30% extra DPS we currently see on Whisper will go down to the first shot dealing 30% extra damage, and all following shots dealing the dps of the unmasterworked version.
We know Whisper is staying in the power slot, while all other snipers get moved to kinetic/energy. Depending on how buffs/nerfs go with the release of Forsaken, it's possible that a Darci + linear fusion for example might be able to outshine just using whisper; I can definitely see linear fusions getting a large buff considering they're only a bit higher damage than snipers currently, but will occupy a (supposedly) more powerful slot.
I think we'll just have to wait and see exactly what happens. With so many changes coming with forsaken to weapons and loadouts it's probably too early to get *too* worried about the state of things

I'm guessing they thought by making the whisper exotic but with the original black hammer perks, it would be both a very powerful option and self-limiting. I'm sure they will release some new exotics that are actually better to use for certain encounters -- looking at you, touch of malice -- that would warrant the swap. You also hit the nail on the head about consistent crits. Whisper becomes outclassed quickly if you don't land crits consistently. I do wish that they would buff up the base damage of sleeper a bit. Maybe make a direct hit do the damage that combined beams currently do and then split that damage up if the beam splits. It would make more sense, and would reward precision. Would also make it a more viable contender vs whisper and darci.
I'm interested to see what changes once we get the weapon slot changes like the week before Forsaken. Cuz if ikelos sniper goes to secondary then you could have someone run tractor and shoot that and then switch to whisper once you've run out of ammo. Datto you still think whisper will be a problem for the game once those changes come into play?
Couldnt they make raid bosses without crit point/having crits only available for a few seconds be a way to work around whisper? the gun is souly relient on crits, so if you take away or restrict that option, but suddenly becomes less good

Am I the only one wondering why you kept mentioning hammers, but not following up with Celestial Nighthawk? Did you take this into account or it just didn't come to mind? One of the most popular optimum dps strategies is creating a pile of orbs by spamming tethers then having multiple solar hunters alternating golden gun, then rocket launcher up to 5 times each. I can't recall the exact damage numbers for this strat though.
I am hopeful that Whisper could potentially be a teaser for how strong some of the exotics in Forsaken will be. If not, then we will be stuck with using it forever because they are allowing year 1 weapons to be raised to year 2 levels. We'll just have to see what Forsaken brings.
Why don't you test borealis with ionic return? Is it that far off from these two?
I think what Datto might also be saying at the end of the vid is that having a weapon like Whisper is gonna repeat the same things happened in Destiny 1 with having the Gally. For solo players that LFG a lot tends to end up running across a lot of posts that say "MUST HAVE GALLY!" which leaves out a lot of people who could get the gun based off RNGesus. I agree with him on every point but I'm hoping that Bungie make more guns that has value Like EP shotty and Whisper. We don't need any more nerfs to anything no more

What would Sleeper having 3 shot mags do for it? would that bring it up to the same level as DARCI and Whisper?
