    All e-mini future traders should know the key dividend reinvestment dates for big S&P 500 index funds. On 28jun2021 and 28sep2021, two of the biggest S&P 500 index funds, Vanguard VFIAX (222.4 Billion) and TSP C fund(251.5 Billion) automatically reinvest the quarterly dividends for their fund holders. This means a combined 1.77 Billion of shares being bought on these days, a huge upward pressure. Vanguard publishes their VFIAX dividend reinvestment date but TSP does not publish their C fund dividend reinvestment date. However, C funds share prices reflect that their dividend reinvestment matches the VFIAX dividend reinvestment dates.

    Hi there, thanks for the video. Quick question, How much money do you need to have in the account to trade at least one contract of /ES?

    • @GorillaFutures
      @GorillaFutures  2 года назад +2

      Great question, you need to maintain a balance of $500 per contract. If your balance drops below $500 you run the risk of a margin call. 3 contacts would be $1500.

    Interesting video. I'm GUESSING you've probably dabbled in other trading modalities, but you've obviously settled into futures as one of your investment/trading methodologies of choice. What do you see as the main advantages versus say Forex or stock options, etc? VERY interested in your response. Thank you.

      Great question! I've traded stocks fx and futures. I settles on futures for a few reason. 1) I wanted to trade the same thing everyday, I don't like having to search through 100s of stocks of look at 30 different fx pairs. 2) taxes on futures are better. 3) it is what fits my personality, I like to be in and out of trades relatively quick. I think fx is going to take a huge hit from retail traders once people start trading the micros. Especially for US citizens the taxes are better and you can trade normal hours.

      I use the ATR of at least 1.5 to 2 times. Normally I use an 8pt or 10 pt stop. I trade off numbers. 25, 50, 75, 00. If it is pushing down into 50 3 times and doesn't break then a 10 point stop is good because if it breaks then most likely it's headed for 25 and I'm wrong. I then set my target at 75. 25 point boxes.

    i am trading e-mini nasdaq on the 1min chart, if you see a trend just try to ride it, if the candles are too choppy and there is no clear indication what trend is forming then keep away - thats my only rule and i have currently 70% of winning trades. trying to not gamble or anticipate. rather i miss some candles while i wait for a confirmation of the trend and then hop in. but also immediatelly hopping out if its not going according to plan. i have a "no waiting for possible rebound" rule. if the candle starts to be choppy i am instantly out, i rather cut my losses immediatelly instead of hoping for the best but also risk losing more. then i better lose now some bucks (even if with wait i could've gain much more). There will always be the next opportunity.

    How do you get your stop loss to move up to break even?
    And how do you get the number of ticks remaining on a candle to show?

    • @GorillaFutures
      @GorillaFutures  4 года назад +7

      If you're using NT8 you go to your ATM setup and go under stop loss management select your S/L to hit auto break even or select +1 so that if your stop is hit you still pay for commission. The tick indicator is a custom indicator I had made, I should be able to send it to you if you'd like. Also there is a tick counter under the indicator menu that is very similar press ctrl + i and the menu will pop up.

      Gorilla Futures if I set the stop strategy, what does the stop loss need to be set at?

    • @GorillaFutures
      @GorillaFutures  4 года назад +3

      @@JoshuaShelhamer that all depends on your risk tolerance I personally use a larger stop loss but will close lots of trades out by hand if they meet my closing requirements. I don;t think there is any perfect number and it all depends on what your trading. For example my stop loss for the ES is smaller then my stop loss for CL . Now for your b/e strategy I would suggest you use a plus 1 as a minimum. EX : if you buy at 100 have your B/E +1 move to 101 when price reaches 105. Once you are up a decent amount there is no reason you should take on losses. This is just a suggestion and would strongly suggest that you do your research to make sure it fits your needs.

    I have a question regarding buying the contracts. Isn't the contract super expensive to buy? Everytime I place an order for 1 contract (simulation btw) it takes around 12 thousand dollars to take that position. Which is very confusing considering a lot of the videos that point me to trading futures recommend starting with a small account to learn the market.

    • @GorillaFutures
      @GorillaFutures  4 года назад +1

      No one should reccomend you trade with a small account, you can open an account for a few hundred dollars. intra day margins on the ES through NinjaTrader are back at $500 maintence margin is around $12000. So for trades being taken during the regular trading hours you should need to have a minimum of $500 now with volatility this number can/will go up. Now if you're having problems I'd suggest you reach out and speak to support.

    • @GorillaFutures
      @GorillaFutures  3 года назад

      @@rustygolfer3475 your not wrong and I know lots of people do a similar strategy that you have mentioned but just because I don't do it doesn't make it wrong. I simply know the probability of my trades and thats what I play, also in theory your idea would work great but on many days we don't trend like that. I could see that strategy for an investing or swing trading idea but for an intra day system I'm not a fan of it. Many days we don't trend in one direction, we go back and forth all day long. If thats the case then your system is going to have lots of break evens so instead I shoot for a target based on s/r and probabilites of certain signals working out. The risk is just to big, I'm not going to let a good winning trade turn into a small winner because I wanted to give it more room, also you need a reason to move those stops and take profit levels. What your reason? Price moved down? I do not mean to be rude because this is something lots of newer traders ask about but it's a hindsight thing, you see a chart and say wow I could of made all this but in reality the signals not there for that entire trade. Just my opinion doesn't make it right or wrong. Just more then one way to skin a cat and I prefer my way.

      There is no correct answer, to trade the ES on NinjaTrader you will need to maintain a balance of $500 per 1 contract now obviously you are going to want more, but how much more is up to you. Do you know your riskor how much you are risking per trade? If not I'd figure that out in SIM first. Then simply do the math, if you have a 3000 account and your risk is 100 per 1 trade then you would get 30 losing trades in a row before your back to zero. • @GorillaFutures
      @GorillaFutures  4 года назад +3

      when the markets are "normal" meaning we have 10-20 pt days then i use a 4500 tick because it gives me on average 1-3 entries a day. With the market being so volatile right now I am mainly using a 5/15 min chart. It boils down to volatility for me. Low volatility = 4500 tick high volatility = 5/15 min chart.

But good account trading would be sticking to your rules. So you either change the inputs to move the stop after a bigger move or whatever, and that changes your bottomline. But putting this trade as an example after just a "feeling" (albeit your personal experience) without more quantifiable terms is misleading.

    A few observations. Is this SIM or live account trading. Only way to be sure is to show display name. You don't even have to reveal the whole thing, just the first part where it says SIM or "Your Name". Secondly, the answers to the questions below confuse me. When @makaiva147 asked which broker you use, you answered Phillips. Phillips is your clearing agent sir, not a broker. Big difference. Then later someone else asked who your broker is, you answered Ninja Trader 8! Ninja Trader 8 is your platform. But all that could be put to rest is you show folks you're taking real trades. Ninja Trader 8 has a feature where you can "playback" trading as it happened in real time and practice with entering and exiting trades. How do we know that's not what you're doing?

Im not going to lecture every single person because they maybe typed something wrong, not to mention tons of people call clearing a broker thats nothing new, don't know why your trying to bust my balls over that one. The reason my id is not shown is because it leads to more issues. My name is Patrick so when I did show the first letter of my ID it shows P so then people said I am using play back, there is no wining with RUclips commenters. Im trying to give out free advice and info. Also if I was using play back why wouldn't I am for more then a few hundred dollars that would get me a ton more views then a saying $450.00 look at the videos where people talk about making tens of thousands in a few minutes they have TONS of views.

      Lol if it was replay I'd sure be trading a much larger size so it would be much more impressive.

    Damn all these graphs are so bullshit. You’re basically gambling your money on a 50-50 chance that the graph will go up instead of down. You’re just as good gambling on football or playing the roulette table in Las Vegas on a red or black bet.

      @@gabea6657 maintaining a website and everything like that is not free not to mention the hundreds of hours I have spent on the course alone. Combined with the monthly cost for chat room and many other items. If you dont want to be apart of the community then don't you can easily take advantage of all the free video series coming out and I hope you do!!

      In my opinion, Directional trading is not the best way to trade the market. You should consider other alternatives in the future. Good trading
