A video idea Holly - Differences in horse care/ownership and competing in Ireland v Australia.
For example in Australia floats are super common and it seems Ireland/UK/Europe don’t tend to offload and tie their horses to floats at venues but that’s super common in Australia.
I loved this and I'm a Grade One teacher two years from retirement. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a vet but went into journalism in university and then teaching. I live vicariously through you in both riding and career.
The TV show 'Scottish Vets Down Under' features this veterinary practice and is very enjoyable for anyone interested. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Well done video, Holly. I'm not a vet, but a retired nurse, and one thing I can also recommend for school are study groups. Made my Uni life much easier and I was able to grasp the material better. I totally get the fatigue thing, I did call for a few years @ 1 in 3 and that's exhausting (by the end I was 1 in 6 or less).
I don’t find study groups good for me, but definitely heard other people swear by them! Worth a go for sure!
On call is tough 😴
@@HollyLenahanSJDo you have a Littmann Stethoscope?
Watching this, it kinds makes it more clear, why so many young people are leaving Ireland.
It's so expensive compared to the pay you get. It amazes me, that the Irish Government has yet to do anything about it. 😅
But on another note, UCD is such a pretty campus. Absolutely loved my semester abroad there. The small lakes on campus where you could eat your lunch and the swans!!! So so pretty.
This video is so helpful for me as I have to pick my subjects for my leaving cert now 💕
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for! 😍 I’m studying my 5th year of vet school in Sweden and it seems we’ve had very similar experiences. I’m also hoping to work with reproduction in the future, you’re a big inspiration of mine and have been through all these years ⭐️
Best of luck! Repro is a great pathway, always a huge demand for stud vets ☺️
So exciting seeing you post vet content❤
Working on getting hours for vet school. Excited to watch even though its different in your country
Absolutely going to do a day in the life!
@@HollyLenahanSJ so excited!!
Loved the video Holly!! Thanks for sharing your experience. Love from a Retired Paramedic, a S&R Dog and Handler Team Trainer and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada. 💖🇨🇦🇦🇺
My favorite note taking practice was take what I could, then gather with others in the class and compare, inevitably some would have something we all missed and then we would have the most complete notes to study.
Great video Holly! I think the differences between other countries and Canada/US's veterinary program are so interesting. We do minimum 2 years of an undergraduate degree (most people do 3 years or a full degree), then a 4 year veterinary program. Totally agree with you about not feeling like you know how to be a vet after graduation, lol. I ended up going into an anatomic pathology residency so after a few years out I REALLY don't feel like I know how to be a vet now, haha. If it's not on a necropsy table I don't know what to do with it 😂💀
I love this video! Very interesting to listen to, although for me being ADHD maybe if you included some more videos or photos just to keep me hooked? Just a friendly tip :) Loving these vlogmas videos!
You are such an inspiration to me because it’s my dream to become a show jumper & equine veterinarian
SAME ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I want to become an equine vet! ❤
Hey Holly! I am a 3rd year vet student in South Africa at Onderstepoort faculty. We also only have one vet school in the country - I understand the "getting very high grades" to get in. The 2nd nearest vet school is in Namibia. We also have SOOO many toxic plants and ticks and endemic diseases in Southern Africa which makes the degree hard to stay in as well... But it is REALLY cool and interesting. We do a BVSc degree that is 6 years, where the first 4 years is preclinical and theory and practical training. The last 2 years you start working at the Onderstepoort Academic Hospital on different rotations e.g. equines, smallies, ICU, exotics.
I really, really want to become an equine vet and one day I will!
Awesome video!
Congratulations Holly, A really informative, across the board video for any one thinking of becoming a vet or even training right now. My working days are over due to a disability but I still really enjoyed. Well done. Lots of love Jill Birmingham U.K. XXXXX
Really interesting, Holly. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Loved this! So informative, especially as someone who would have no idea of how to go about this!
that's the same with New Zealand; we only have 1 vet school so it's super competitive to get in. Also, have to do so many days with a vet clinic and I believe there is specialising here.
So glad you upload this! I'm trying to get into a vet tech class and then hopefully on to vet school thanks for all the helpful info!
Best of luck!
@@HollyLenahanSJ Thank you!
Wonderful vlog Holly 👍. Thank you so much ☺️
So many women got in!
A very informative helpful video thank you!
Fun to hear your journey. Loved the foal story!! ❤❤❤
Very interesting for all !!!
THANK YOUUU I want to study veterinary since I was a small child 16 now and I'm stressing my but of to go since I'm scared I won't be good enough 😅🙈Thank you for making this it will help me out so so much ❤️
Oh best of luck!!
Super helpful video as I’ve managed to take chunks and relate it to my equine physiotherapist course I’m studying Thankyou!
Ps can anyone else hear the Aussie accent in some words holly says or just me 🤣🥰
Wow I'm impressed at your talent !!!🐎🍎🥕🌺🌼
lol at me watching this as someone who works in IT. Really interesting tho, nice battling the traffic going through Dublin on my way home 😂
Haha always interesting to hear about other careers, even if you aren’t going down that route!
Anybody trying to get into Medical school these has to have an intervew - just like Vets, Doctors have to have the right personality (as well as high grades) thank goodness. I was an RN and back then some of the Dr's behaviour and manners, both medical and toward other staff, was rude and downright horrible. I went on to do a degree in Enviromental Science (always do chemistry! It's the building block of ALL systems) and I really didn't like study groups, each to their own. Thanks for doing this it was most interesting 😁.
Very interesting thank you - visit Nth Qld first before going to work there the humidity is a killer compared to Vic 😏 plus cyclones flooding crocodiles and the list goes on 🤪
I dear! We had flooding this year but thankfully no cyclones or crocs (and it better stay that way!)
😂😂 Vic isn’t tropical enough for crocs
great video thank you. Do you have a Littmann Stethoscope?
Yes I do :)
@@HollyLenahanSJ thank you thank you which Littmann model do you have? :-)
Hi Holly , random question I am currently looking in Ty in secondary school Ireland and need to pick my subjects for 5-6th and would love to get in veterinary in the future or basically anything including animal care , what subjects would you recommend I was thinking- biology, chemistry and ag science or biology, geography and ag science . Would love to know what you recommend and great video ❤
I think I talked about what subjects I did in this video? Chemistry is a required subject the last time I checked so you will have to do that if you want to do veterinary. And biology is highly recommended
do u have to have to have straight As to become an equine vet ?
Is there any way into veterinary without going to uni for years ? 😕
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
We need more exotic vets if anybody is interested.
