  • Accompanied by Tim McAleer, owner of Founding Footsteps Tours, Laurita and Lauren tour the Arch Street Meeting House, which is the largest Quaker meeting house in the country and second largest in the world. They learn about the history of the Quaker movement in America and the role that Quaker women like Lucretia Mott, Alice Paul and Susan B. Anthony played in promoting equality, particularly in the fight against slavery and for women's suffrage. The tour includes a visit to the main meeting room, which still functions as an active place of worship. Surrounded by benches and cushions dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, Lauren, Laurita and Tim observe a moment of silence, reminiscent of the Quaker practice of silent worship.
