A majority of the comments I read took this song in a religious way (which is probably the point of the song tbh- I just didn't pay attention to that at first lol, completely missed the "died so you didn't have to" part T>T), but I took it in a human way. That "father" (human parental, not religious connotation) can be found in those you come to know in life. They may not be a father-figure to you, but they give you everything a father should have. This "father" could also be multiple people who each give you something a father should have in your life. This "father" could also be a "mother" instead. Man or woman, old enough to be your parent, or young enough to be around your age, regardless, they give you something, or everything, a parent should have. Just letting people know, that you don't have to be religious to find a meaning in a religious song, and you don't have to not be religious to find meaning in non-religious songs or even those against religion. Every song and story can have a form of meaning for every person regardless of position or beliefs. You just have to take a step back and see the bigger picture, rather than pinpointing the beliefs attached to the song.
