The rattling of the Beech tree leaves in late Winter/early Spring sounds much like a vacuum leak from maple sap lines. Very annoying when you are trying to find leaks....
Normally I prefer to buy from a local bookseller, however, for those who are unable to do so, Here are links to two of the books Ethan recommended: Beginner's Guide to Recognizing Trees of the Northeast (Mark Mikolas) www.amazon.com/Beginners-Guide-Recognizing-Trees-Northeast/dp/1682681106/ Bark: A Field Guide to Trees of the Northeast (Micheal Wojtech) www.amazon.com/Bark-Field-Guide-Trees-Northeast/dp/1584658525/
Hi Walt -- basswood is said to be the best carving wood. If you buy carving blanks online that's usually what it is. That's what folks carve duck decoys out of too!
@@HowToLoveAForest THANKS ETHAN // I REALIZE HOW BUSY YOU ARE !!! ARE BASSWOOD TREES EASILY FOUND IN SPRINGFIELD,VERMONT REGION !!! THANKS PARTNER // WALT IN SPRINGFIED,VERMONT.

This is awesome, thank you for posting this. I am always trying to find ways to learn more about the natural world around me
Thanks!
